  • Marma culture is known for its unique music, dance, and art forms. The Marma people have their own distinct language and cultural traditions. They live in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, which is a hilly region located in the southeastern part of Bangladesh. Their culture has been influenced by the neighboring countries of Myanmar and India, as well as by the indigenous traditions of the region. The video will showcase a combination of the folk songs enjoyed in the Marma culture.
Chagayang is one of the most popular folk music. It is usually composed on various topics during contemporary life.
Lungdi is a group folk song of Marma community. It has written about the life and action of Gautama Buddha and various stories of war. It is sung once a year during Sangraing festival. Lungdi has another name is Haingchowale. Word is different but tune or melody is same. But there’s a little differences between Lungdi and Haingchowale. Two people have to wrestle friendly when singing Lungdi. In this video, performers have sung Haingchowale by explaining the 33 Marma alphabets.
Pang Khung: You can see a combination of marma folk music, songs & dance here. The traditional instruments - Hne (flute), Bung Pahk (Drums), Cheh (percussion) are handmade and it requires practice and skill to play it. The songs sung here are some parts from marma traditional performing art - Zait. In some occasions, the villagers sit together & enjoy the performance. This is a very important part of marma culture and the music is attached to their heart.
