      Bourbons
      They contain cocoa powder, but the traditional recipe is completely dairy-free, meaning most versions of the biscuit are vegan. ... Some brands make a version of the biscuit called Bourbon Cream; these can sometimes contain milk, so make sure you read the ingredients before you buy.

    You need to get the hang of dunking biscuits correctly. It's a combination of dunking long enough for the biscuit to soften but not too long to break off and fall in your brew. Jaffa cakes should be eaten cold from the fridge for the crunch on the chocolate and good orangey jelly (jello) consistency.

There's always been a debate here in the UK that the jaffa cake is a biscuit (cookie) or a cake.. But you can decide as your neither right or wrong xoxo custard creams are made with a creamy custard creme and the biscuit is more buttery and soft. Bourbon is a chocolate flavour creme I have both biscuits in my tin. Chocolate fingers are super yummy and moreish! All the biscuits are Mcvities classics. :)

  • @MrChasanDayve
    @MrChasanDayve 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As an English native, it's nice to see people appreciating the peculiar customs of our slightly crazy island, even the tea dunking fanaticism.
    I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the Bourbon biscuit is pronounce Bore-Bon. It's named after a French Royal House, but has no affiliation as far as I'm aware. Tunnock's Tea Cakes will usually be full with the mallow centre, but if they get a little warm, the chocolate softens and the mallow sometimes slumps. The biscuit is always soft, so in warm weather I keep mine in the fridge.
    One of the strange things about our biscuits is that the ones called Rich Tea are the worst biscuit to dunk with. It takes experience to fully master dunking, but I always dunk a small piece of the biscuit, perhaps 1/4 inch to assess it's tea resilience and progress from there. Cream filled biscuits can usually take a more extreme dunk, as long as you don't completely submerge the cream. Try and avoid dunking over half the biscuit, as that can lead to structural failure, followed by a salvage operation with a spoon, to retrieve the biscuit before it disintegrates completely. There's nothing worse than tea debris at the bottom of your cup.
    It's also important to remember that dunking rules vary countrywide, and if it works for you why change it. I find the way people eat Jaffa Cakes the most varied. I personally like to take a bite, then take a sip of tea, which melts the chocolate and softens the sponge.
    I'd recommend trying Fox's Golden Crunch Creams, and their Chocolate Rounds, and Hobnobs of course if you have the chance.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all, your eloquent writing in the descriptions of dunking a biscuit and salvaging one that’s fallen deep within the cup was very enjoyable to read! Well done with that 👏👏👏
      Second, we did end up putting the rest of the Tunnock’s Tea Cakes in the fridge and the change that took place was very good!
      And last, Hobnobs seem to be the MOST recommended biscuit in the comments of this video! We’ve had some of Fox’s chocolate and loved it, so trying their biscuits would be amazing!!

    Hello Hailey and Nathan, so many biscuits to taste and dunk and the family circle pack is my favourite too, I always opt for the chocolate digestives first and then would leave the shortbread ones to the end as they are not my favourite, so happy you didn't dunk a Jaffa cake as they are so soft..lol. Not sure what happened to your Tea Cakes, maybe the flight over sucked all the air out of them. The art of dunking is knowing how long to leave the biscuit in the tea before it breaks and you have that skill done to perfection. I have my scorecard here to rate your video and my score is 10. Thanks as always for sharing your tasting video's, Have a lovely week . .

Nathan’s family makes a spiced berry cookie at Christmas time that they dunk in water to soften and bring out the flavor of the cookie, so there’s been practice with dunking there! About the shortbread. We are big shortbread lovers here. Majority are all the same flavour the only difference being some will be more sweet or have more butter in them. As you can buy some that are extra butter or extra creamy. So depends on preference of sweetness and if you like butter. They just do different shapes of biscuits for fun. I'd say there is probably over 100 different shapes of shortbread biscuits. They can come in Christmas tree shape, dogs, cats, square, round, rectangle, shaped as a house. You get the idea we love shortbread and making food fun haha

    When you become an experienced dunker , you can judge a biscuit by how long it can be dunked before the dreaded thing happens and it breaks off and sinks to the bottom of your cup. So Rich Tea, Nice and Malted Milks are 1 to 2 seconds in the tea, otherwise disaster. Chunkier more solid biscuits take longer do a Bourbon, Custard Cream or Digestive can last longer. Now the really heavy weights are the Hob Nob and the Ginger Nut. Those can suck half your cup of tea without breaking down.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole
      @FromtheHobbitHole 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are some really great tips! Thanks!!

  • @andybrown4284
    @andybrown4284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good dunker is a biscuit thats not overly sweet and usually on the dryer side so it won't simply go soggy and vanish to the bottom of your mug.
    Selection boxes of biscuits quite often end up with flavours being shared or transferred between the contents which is why you'll be noticing extra flavour notes.
    If you like oaty biscuits then try to get hold of a packet of Hobnobs, chocolate or not.

    • @FromtheHobbitHole

    The makers of Jaffa Cakes had a year long battle with the Tax authorities in England, which was successful. Biscuits have to pay tax, but cakes do not. They successfully argued Jaffa as a cake and not a biscuit due to the following fact. Biscuits go soft when stale, whilst Cakes go hard, just as the Jaffa does. The fact that Jaffa Cakes are displayed in the biscuit aisle is not their problem. They save millions on tax as a result.

    It's Italian marshmallow which is like a very sticky and smooth. Biscuits we been doing for seven and eight hundred years, its the same with cheesecake and cakes. Some of the biscuits have vanilla in them. The bourbon biscuit is pronounced "bor bon" not "bourbon" it is the way the French say the word and it's a mixed chocolate cream. That's why in Britain we use the classic way of saying things and we also use Latin and the old romance languages and in our cooking most biscuits have vanilla in them. I love watching videos where Americans say they invented it first or we have copied them.
