Since I started learning the Uke I search on you Tube on how to do the calypso Strum. There are many different way to do it. So I picked up from here and there but I am hooked upwith this one . I´ve been watching this vid many times and started following with mutet strums al the way through on tillI could hold it till the end. I wrote down the text. I placed the chords exatctly where the belonged and putted the "up and downs" above the words of the song. I must say that only by excercising you can not only strum the song but sing it as well.The only way to succeed ist to repaet it many many times. to train your muscle memory and your ear. Uke mullum delivered the basic with not much talking and explaining. Thanks. Hope to get similar lessons from you.

Ive just pinched my sons uke as he left it behind when he went to uni. I've re strum it left handed! I play version of this clawhammer banjo and I've always liked it. I'll be scanning your channel for tips in playing the ukelele

+Kelly P it was meant to be a C chord - 0087 though I slid up to it from 0076 (does that help?)
+uke mullum Thank you, but as a beginner, 0087 and 0076 don't make sense to me. What I do see though (and hear) is that your fingers are at the first string 6th fret and second string 7th fret and you just slide it up the the next fret? :)
it's only taken me a year to reply. Yes that's exactly correct. the numbers I mention refer to the fret. '0' means open so from the string closest to the ceiling, it means open string, open string the fret 8 on the 2nd string and fret t on the first or second string... which is a C chord. From the 4th string (the one closest the ceiling) - G C C E
You mention G7 in the video but in the description you have it as G, which do you recommend?
G7 is easier to change to from F. So… yep G7

Le problème dans les tutos c'est que les personnes savent très bien jouer et ils ont l'impression que leur tuto est facile. j'ai bien compris le rythme mais je vois que vous faites des rouler aussi qu'un débutant ne sait pas faire en général. Puis au tout début de la chanson le rythme est DDU UDU ok mais sur la première note soit le C vous faites me semble t il DDU UD et vous passez au F puis UDet après au G c'est UDU et sur C c'est DDU UD......je ne sais pas trop.......et c'est justement çà qu'il faut savoir pour bien jouer. C'eut été super d'avoir les paroles et le rythme et les notes comme beaucoup font car là votre tuto je l'étudie depuis un moment et j'ai beaucoup de mal à placer les notes au bon moment sur le rythm
I feel your pain. This was a video I made for the kids at the school I was teaching. Later I learned how to add the lyrics and chords etc. to my videos. Essentially, in each bar, you play the pattern
| D DU U DU |. The chord pattern is C | F | G7 | C in the verse and C | Dm | G7 | C in the chorus. I feel the biggest problem for beginners in performing this song is syncopating the melody with the strum. Hang in there Nathalie. I hope it will begin to become second nature for you.

I think chord F sounds better than Dm in the chorus (but it's a matter of opinion, I guess).
But very nicely sung.
+Bern From Wales Well thanks Bern. I like the Dm as the lyrics says the word Sad. Anyone who has watched Spinal Tap will know that D Minor is the saddest key.
