Wow, just wow. I can understand why people would prefer just the background noises, but to me this music just brings the beauty and magic of the Aurora. This and 'Skyrim Atmospheres' from Skyrim's sountrack are the best ambient tracks I've ever heard, just phenomenal. It's how ambient and atmospheric work should be!

This video was shot at the Aurora Village about 30 minutes outside of Yellowknife, Canada. My daughter and I visited Yellowknife and the Aurora Village the first week of March 2017. Purportedly this spot is one of the best in the world to see the auroras and we were not disappointed. Two nights in a row we saw lights in the magnitude of this video. It is truly a magical experience and setting; nothing like you have ever experienced.. There is also a restaurant in the Village that is quite good. You make arrangements to visit this site through the company, Aurora Village, and I highly recommend this group. The temperatures were -36F at night. They provide you with the clothing you need to survive outside in these extreme temperatures, transportation to and from the Village and Yellowknife and access to the warming teepees that you see in the video. I don't remember the cost being unreasonable at all. Go if you can, you'll be amazed!

I completely agree with the comment about replacing the background noise with music. It's much more real of an experience to actually hear the background noises, as if you are there. I have watched so many of these and as soon as I hear someone has inserted music, I move on to the next one. I'm a musician too. But I just don't want to hear someone else's audio interpretation of the experience. If it's windy I'd like to hear the wind. If there people talking, I'd like to hear that. I also don't like to see a time lapse, that's like watching a time lapse of the wind blowing or of a waterfall. So I appreciate that this video is not time lapsed. But again I just think the new age-y music, or any music, detracts.

Consider Iceland too. Depending on where you live, you could fly there probably cheaper than goung to Alaska or Canada if you can fly on WOW airlines. It currently flies in some cities on the East coast such as Boston and in June it'll start flying into Los Angeles.

Just imagine what people thought 1,000 years ago, before we understood what they are.

Here In Australia we have the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) they are mainly seen In two states Tasmania & Victoria, you tend to get the better displays In Tasmania & southern Victoria, I'm located In NW Victoria 100kms from the town called Mildura I've just taken up photography & have been on 3 aurora chases since September last year with a friend & she has got Aurora on every chases. The Auroras In our area are mainly red, pink & purple & are absolutely amazing I've just taken up photography In March & that's one of my mission to take my own photo of the Aurora.
For anyone wanting to chase the Glendale app is very good real time Aurora Information as It happens.

Just so I understand this correctly and because of what I've been told about being able to film the Aurora as it unveils. Was this filmed as it was happening or put together with a sophisticated time lapse system that best reveals real time unveiling; a method I've read about that requires some real nifty apparatus?

+tahitinui2010 It's a real time - that's how Aurora looks like in reality, substorm. There are a few cameras available on the market which have high ISO so you can film in the dark with minimum noise. People usually use timelapse in most cases because they have low ISO on their cameras, but even so Auroras are bright enough to film them even on your cell phone during G2 Storms and higher. And I know many people are not very lucky to see bright auroras like the one in the video so the only thing they have left to do is to film them with a long exposure and make a time lapse from those images.

The original background sounds had crowd noise of people ooowing and awing and footsteps. It gave you a sense of actually being there. Music just dulls the effect. And the original had a bit better resolution. vimeo.com/85070976

Ed Janes Sept is very good. I run a B&B and Aurora tour company in Yellowknife. Aug and Sept are both great months to view one of nature's wonders.
