What lives in a vernal pool? I explored it during a rainstorm to find out!

I explored vernal pools in Vermont in the spring on a rainy day to see what kind of animals live in these ecologically important habitats. I also made it to a nearby creek to flip some rocks for other amphibians and animals living in the creek.
I found many creatures including hellgrammites, green frogs, pickerel frogs, red spotted newts, spotted salamanders, northern dusky salamanders, crayfish, two lined salamanders, and red back salamanders.

You caught a little bit of everything in there. Love the underwater footage, especially watching that newt swim away. I can't believe how many eggs were in there. It seemed like there were a million!
