One of those videos that you watch, and immediately question what the hell you are doing with your life. Such skill, perseverence, craftmanship... looks like a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Incredible. Well earned.
I'm 71. It reminded me of my grandfather, who was a carpenter. It took me on an emotional journey down memory lane that you wouldn't believe! In my opinion, it was awesome!
He will forever remember, every axe/hammer swing, and other things like, wiping the wood shavings from the first course of the window frame. That is what makes this a home. It is a labor of his love. Not only for what he enjoys doing, but for the benefit of his family. This was very cool to watch. Thanks for filming.
Absolutely marvellous! I am 74 years old. When I was a boy my grandfather's homestead tools were still around. I had no idea how they were used, particularly the peg bench. A wonderful video, idealizing hard work, natural materials, respect for the land, and love of people. Congratulations!
Though I have been at it for 40 years I hesitate to call myself a carpenter after watching this. Your skill is awesome, your family beautiful. No one realizes the labor that goes into something like this. Labor and heart. Best wishes jacob.
"HOLY MOSES !" I've been working with wood in the forest, and professionally for fifty years with many other skills i've accumulated over decades. I have met many great craftsmen in that time. These young men are amongst the most skilled, tough, and resourceful i've ever seen. You all should be so proud. It's like going back to the middle ages, when such skills were more common, and a matter of life, and death. This video is a treasure. It should be shown in every school on earth and in places like the Smithsonian Institution to preserve these techniques for the world. That's if our human civilization lasts more than a few more generations. This is the sign of a life truly lived, creativity, craft, endurance, consciousness. This film is a masterpiece in several ways, and on many levels. The girls running barefoot through the grass was worthy of an academy award. The house is magnificent, architecturally, aesthetically, practicality, energy efficient, and most importantly a cultural gem. What do these guys eat, ants and sand? Theres not an ounce of fat on them. The film and the project is cosmically fantastic. I hope this beautiful family lives a very long happy life here. Please do a book, or send this video to the Smithsonian. I'm going to contact them if you don't.

There are no words. I think this is the best craftsmanship I have ever observed. EVER. My late husband was a farmer and a master carpenter of houses and other buildings but not using this technique. I took movies of him building many things for our children to remember. He was am amazing man and could do anything. If you were ever on a deserted island you would have wanted him with you. This video gave me the same feeling. My heart is singing today watching your video! Thank you.

What a beautiful 24min. Thanks a lot! I'm a Korea traditional carfenter, you give me a great impression. Also I realized again." To make a house is a great festival!"
Hands down the best 24 minutes I've spent on youtube! That is life as it should be. What a beautiful family and home you built for yourself Jacob, well done my friend.
You should feel very proud. A beautiful house to look at and live in and all hand-built by you. The thermal efficiency will put many modern homes to shame. I am very envious of your skills, home and location. Thank you for this documentary.
I found this documentary by accident , bless you ka you make an old lady across the world so happy and have watched this clip video so many time and the song is awesome.
When I’m looking at this, I believe I’ve wasted my life between excels and meetings, but I’m glad that others found a meaning for their lives. And I’m only 33...
Yes, it’s hard to feel productive in your life when the end result of your work is so far down the line that it loses all meaning. It’s not too late to change! Even if you’re tied to a mortgage, take up a hobby like carpentry. Once you learn some basic skills you’ll be amazed what you can create.
MWC... build your dream with the revenue from your work. My dream was to own an old farmstead. It took 3 years and many miles to find what I want. 12 acres and an old 1810 house with good bones but lots of work - total restoration. I started in 1992, December at age 27 and am still working on it today... you do that with old houses. You look and listen and it will tell you many stories. I learned through much reading, much looking and visiting old houses and asking many , many questions and offering help to learn. So today, I had planned beads(drip edge) on clapboard to replace some with rot, using a wooden plan. Found some old square nails that I haves collected and bought over the years to use as well... all period. I have a great wood working shop, small forge shop and even an outdoor pizza oven on 12 acres overlooking the sea. I have had struggles, frustrations and times of challenge. BUT, it has all been part of the life I have wanted and learned from. From raising my own food - gardens and animal husbandry - to celebrating warm summers and cold winters, it is all part of the cycle. You can do this... anyone can do this. You have to decide and go forward... My job was high stress with hourly, daily and weekly deadlines working is an industry that provided to the masses mindless entertainment at times. That is all behind me. You can do this!!!!!
@Qwerty123 i am wondering how the world would be if those billions of us would suddenly decide to quit their current jobs and start living their dreams. Would there be someone to craft us the tools? would there be food? what about clothing? to me answer is straght - yes, yes and yes. At this state human population is very very very very comfortable.. and we somehow trade that comfort for our life wasted between 4 walls in an office. What technology promised 100years ago is somehow not happening yet it makes our life easier for a price. its never too late though. Of curse not everybody has skills of a carpenter but one does not need school to learn, of course not everybody can live in a wooden house, but there is a place for a change everywhere. imho the office life is slowly killing one's spirit talking from my own experience. I am young, we want a family and start somewhere but at the same time i feel i need jump out of that corporate bullshit circle soon.. chasing something that will never come. these empty spaces cannot be filled by money or material things. The best of luck to you and all! Lets live our dreams!
Absolutely beautiful. The workmanship amazing and the burnished wood from burning the lumber georgous. You must be so proud to know that your hands and strength produced such a beautiful work of art. I am proud for you also.
Absolutely stunning, a vintage craftsmanship in today’s world breath’s new life to this simplistic masterpiece. 🌺 I always dreamed of marrying that talented person to make a home like this for us. Now I live through others’ reality.
You probably met many men with similar expertise in other areas of life, but none of them was good enough for you, so you kept searching hoping to find an even better potential husband. Until it was too late. The fate of modern women...

The most brilliant TH-cam video I’ve ever seen. This craftsmanship is a dying art especially here in the U.S. It’s so relieving to know somewhere out there, the mastery still lives on
This is one of the best and most inspiring youtube videos I've watched in a long time. The amazing craftsmanship gave me a huge smile. The music and the cinematography gave me goosebumps. The tradition and the summer nature shots were amazing. The house is so beautiful and the story behind it is so nice. The amount of time and work is also inspiring. Makes me want to go there. Thank you for this video, made my day. :)
I have watched this and been mesmerised by the skill. The finished house is beautiful. Using old fashioned tools, no nails. I admire you all. You’ve done this before, I’d love to see it. That’s not possible though. Kind regards Stephanie
I am thoroughly impressed with the craftsmanship this project. Being a builder myself, i can really appreciate the skill, knowledge, hard work, and attention to detail taken on every single piece of wood. No doubt this masterpiece will last nearly an eternity barring the elements of time. God bless!
The is the best thing I've seen recently, by far. Thank you for this relaxing and inspirational moment, and congratulations on your huge achievement =)

Wow!!!!......You have created something, that the rest of us only dream of....Magnificent home, for a truly lovely family......Congratulations!!!......May you have a long and happy life in your brilliant castle......
WOW! I'm in the US, and built my house, but it's 2x6 lumber, plywood, power tools. We do have paneling that was from the pine trees from where we built, but that too was processed with power, from the chain saws to planer and table saw. Great job with the hand tools. Once agin... WOW! Great job.
Increadible work ethic! In this age, it is so easy to grab a power tool and rush the job. Your daughters will remember you building this for the rest of their lives.

Hi! I saw this video for the first time in 2016. And I showed it to my Wife. The beauty of landscapes, the form of construction, the notorious chronology; mainly involving Babies ... Jeff Pianki's Old Habits music, along with the beautiful video, reminds me of a time not too distant yet very striking. In October of 2016, my Wife died of cancer ... and this video is a breath for my memories and feelings ... Congratulations on the show created. He deserves an Oscar. Edson - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

I think that is the most beautiful thing I have ever watched on TH-cam! So beautiful and such wonderful craftsmanship! How blessed you all are.
Cory, I agree. This family is a blessing.
i also couldn't agree more....a very inspirational video....just shows you what is possible when you put your mind and heart into a project.....threre is nothing we can not do if we have the will and the passion.....I hope it stands for eternity !!!
Thank you.
I have to leave a comment but I don't know what to say. I didn't know a house could be infused with soul. I'm truly thankful I stumbled across this video. You are a master at your craft. You are an artist a husband and a father. Bless you and your family!

I watch this video a couple times a year. Still brings me joy each time.

What a beautiful 24min. Thanks a lot!

Hands down the best 24 minutes I've spent on youtube! That is life as it should be. What a beautiful family and home you built for yourself Jacob, well done my friend.
Absolutely the most beautiful handcrafted house I've seen.
This is one of most quintessential examples of European heritage, culture, way of living...
Imagine how bread and even a pizza would taste baked in that brick oven.
@@0flyswatter0 like tasting heaven.
You're young. Move West and build a log house
Yes, it’s hard to feel productive in your life when the end result of your work is so far down the line that it loses all meaning. It’s not too late to change! Even if you’re tied to a mortgage, take up a hobby like carpentry. Once you learn some basic skills you’ll be amazed what you can create.
its time for a change!
MWC... build your dream with the revenue from your work.
I always dreamed of marrying that talented person to make a home like this for us. Now I live through others’ reality.
You probably met many men with similar expertise in other areas of life, but none of them was good enough for you, so you kept searching hoping to find an even better potential husband. Until it was too late.
The fate of modern women...
Incredible. The house and this video are masterpieces. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Thank you. Good luck to you and your family!

You have a wonderful gift. Such a house is just a dream for 99% of us. This is a work of art. Thank you for sharing.

What a wonderful and incredibly positive movie! Thank you and God bless you all!
The most beautiful house ever. I'd happily live in this testament to hard work, dedication, skill and craftsmanship. I hope it remains as a family home for generations to come. Well done to everyone involved in this wonderful build.
Unreal craftsmanship, makes me ashamed to use power tools. An absolute joy to watch! Thank you. :-)

This so reminds me of the craftsmanship of my Swedish and Norwegian ancestors who settled in Manitoba Canada.
I have watched this and been mesmerised by the skill. The finished house is beautiful. Using old fashioned tools, no nails. I admire you all. You’ve done this before, I’d love to see it. That’s not possible though. Kind regards Stephanie
Beautiful story! Beautiful family! Beautiful home! Thanks for sharing.

I am thoroughly impressed with the craftsmanship this project. Being a builder myself, i can really appreciate the skill, knowledge, hard work, and attention to detail taken on every single piece of wood. No doubt this masterpiece will last nearly an eternity barring the elements of time. God bless!
Craftsmanship is excellent I’m totally amazed I’m 79 and your workmanship is absolutely great I enjoyed watching the build thank you very much
The is the best thing I've seen recently, by far.
Thank you for this relaxing and inspirational moment, and congratulations on your huge achievement =)
Good job! This was, I think, the best 24 minutes spent on youtube!
I also have a wooden home brought from Finland. I enjoyed every single minute to build my house.
Good movie also.
WOW!
Great job.
One of the best videos on TH-cam. I loved it.
Increadible work ethic! In this age, it is so easy to grab a power tool and rush the job. Your daughters will remember you building this for the rest of their lives.
This is truly a dedication Dick Proenecke would appreciate.
Po obejrzeniu tego filmu długo myślałam. Wspaniali ludzie wybudowali piękny, prawdziwy dom, który niech będzie dla nich miejscem dobrego i szczęśliwego życia. Coś pięknego :)

That's right!
This house is remarkable structure of TIMBER FRAME craftsmanship at the highest level and the engineering and sturdiness of the home reflects on the iron hands of your work and sweat great house May God bless this home for generations of your ancestors.
This video and people in it exude nothing but pure LOVE!
Yeah ... into the house building
That was UTTERLY AMAZING!!!!! So great to see people make something from all natural things in their ability. Thank you and bless your family and friends.

Beautiful video! So heartwarming. And hats off to this man, he's exceptional.
