They are both similar, the biggest difference being the script their written in (Urdu in Persian script, Hindi in Devanagari). Urdu has more Persian and Arabic loan words compared to Hindi, but both are very similar. However high level Urdu and Hindi are very different from each other. I live in Pakistan but I have never seen anyone speaking Hindi here. For example , it's rajkumari in Hindi and shehzadiyaan in Urdu. But they are similar because Hindi is a descendant of Sanskrit and Urdu is a army language of hybrid of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and also Sanskrit when foreign soldiers in same army originated a same language
