Thank you for doing this -- you've conveniently laid out book releases for the rest of the year. Now I know what to look out for. I'm most interested in the Hamya novel. I'm a lit prof, but like to read a few contemporary novels throughout the year, to keep me connected to our contemporary moment.

The Woman Who Walked Into Doors is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. A triumph of first person narrative. I haven't read the second one, yet.

I read Mammoth this year (in Spanish) and it certainly holds up to the other two books of this thematic trilogy.
Although my least favourite (Permafrost may be my favourite) it still a really good and short read

Thanks, Greg!🌷Susanna Clarke’s The Wood at Midwinter sounds (and looks 😍) indeed like the perfect Christmas gift! I’m now looking forward to seeing the illustrations. The stunning cover reminds me of The Twilight Garden by Sara Nisha Adams (I’ve just treated myself to it as one of the comfort reads for this summer). I liked very much The Sparsholt Affaire by Alan Hollinghurst and would like to read more by him. I am looking forward to the audiobook of Tell me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. I love the Lucy Barton novels, and will be listening to Olive Kitteridge and Olive Again in the coming weeks. Lucy by the Sea was one of my favourites of 2022.

Kevin Barry's The Heart in Winter is up there with Percival Everett's James and Carys Davies' Clear as the best 2024 releases I've read this year. Not sure if it would be your cup of tea, but I can't recommend it highly enough. Especially if the concept of a winter western by an Irish wordsmith sounds appealing.

Piranesi is one of my favourite books of all time. The reader is left with the central mystery: why did Piranesi alone survive the Labyrinth? It erodes your mind like water wears away rock. What if his methodical mind was only half of the reason and the other half is that he was already a stranger in a strange land? I leave you to unpack this puzzle box of a book for yourself.

I’m very excited for (and have preordered) There are Rivers In The Sky and another book you didn’t mention called And So I Roar which is a sequel to The Girl With The Louding Voice. I forgot all about TJ Klune’s new book until this video though. I loved House In The Cerulean Sea and will likely preorder the sequel now that it’s back on my radar!

'The Hypocrite' sounds like Angelica Houston's memoir. Her father accidentally killed a young woman and was a physically abusive serial philanderer. It's a master class in psychology to hear her rationalize her deep love and respect for him.

Holy crap, I did not know about "accidentally killed a young woman"! How many high-powered men have done this? (Now I'm imagining a map with dropped pins; that would be impactful.) We just had our 4th of July viewing of Jaws (may have to re-read that book. Only read it once, in the 70s!), and in Googling film locations I learned the other side of the ferry docks in Chappaquiddick.

The Women Behind the door is the third in a series and you need to read
The Woman Who Walked Into Doors and Paula first.
Both were made into a series on RTE.

I have a few of these preordered already. I have heard a lot about Long Island Compromise, but I really disliked Fleishman is in trouble. I know I’m in the minority with that, but it was a one star for me so it’s hard for me to get excited for the new book. I will wait for some reviews and see though.

53 minutes of Greg on a cloudy Thursday when I’m feeling a bit blaah. Fabulous!
The Hypocrite, The Message, and This is Happiness went right onto my list. I will be listening to This is Happiness very soon. I’m also interested in the new Rumaan Alam, Entitlement, because of how freaked out (in a very good way) I was by Leave the World Behind.
I also found out that there is a new Attica Locke coming in the fall, which I think is the conclusion of her Highway 59 series, so that’s now on my list. Claudia Pineiro’s Time of the Flies is coming in August and is already preordered at my local. Have you looked at the Waterstone’s Debut Fiction Prize shortlist? It looks really solid. I just ordered The Silence In Between by Josie Ferguson which sounds terrific. Waterstone’s description of Martyr sort of turned me around on that book and I think I will be getting to it soon. I recently found out about a horror/noir book called William by Mason Coile that sounds delicious and went right on my list. And Babylonia, by Costanza Casati, who wrote my second favorite book from last year, Clytemnestra, just came out today in the UK. I am so excited to get that! There are others too, of course.
One book that I think maybe you’ll be interested in just came out today in the UK. It’s called The Betrayal of Thomas True by AJ West and is historical fiction about molly houses in 1715 London. It’s flagged as a thriller, which I know isn’t your jam, but I thought the subject matter might intrigue you. My copy is on the way and I can’t wait to get it!
So you are cool with magical children but not with ghosts? 🤔
