  • Restoration: 1993 Mighty Tonka Dump Truck Restoration is my very first restoration project. This DIY restoration project was new territory for me. This Restoration was a tough one because this Tonka Truck was extremely rusty. This 1993 Mighty Tonka Dump Truck was begging for a restoration. In this video I show how I restore this truck to being brand new. I hope you enjoy the restoration video.

    In this video I restore and repair a 1993 Mighty Tonka Dump Truck. This toy truck was mine when I was little and was left in the back yard for over 15 years. I actually thought my parents threw it away until we had some landscapers come out to do some work and they found it. I faced various challenges during this asmr restoration but I hope you enjoy the final product. Lastly, I hope everyone enjoys this Tonka Truck Restoration I sincerely thank you for watching and supporting my channel!

    Nice Job, I'm glad to see that Tonka hasn't tried to cut corners like other companies and incorporate more plastic into thier products. That's most likely why it survived being left out in the elements for close to 30 years.

    If you have not done so, check out the "Rescue and Restore" channel. He is the master of the method. I know you are a new channel and probably can not invest in "stuff" right now. Consider a sand blasting box. Sanding removes metal. Do only as a last resort or for polishing. The paint job is nice but will never last like a baked on powder coat. So, a powder coat system and oven to bake it on should be on your list. On the other hand, you have "fantastic plastic". All the plastic has luster and sheen. The tires are probably better than new, and often overlooked in the restoration process. Great job.

Whenever I find them in my house, I will either relocate them outside or let them loose in my garage if it's really cold outside. They go where the food is, and if there is a food source in my house, I want them around. They take care of all the truly nasty bugs that I have no sympathy for whatsoever. :D

    18:57 Did you have a hard time putting on the front cab? It seems a bit loose when you set it down.

    • @RestoreandRepair
      @RestoreandRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim, I left it a little bit loose. I wanted to make sure the JB weld would for sure hold. I was not sure how the paint would effect the weld since I had never used it before. Lastly, I didn't want to put too much pressure on the JB weld area. Needless to say, the stuff is crazy strong and it still holding strong. Thanks again Tim for taking the time to leave me a comment. Take care brother! - R&R

    Yes I would have taken a water hose to it first. I hate spiders and their egg sacks. It creeps me out. But you did a great job on that truck with a minimum of tools. Most people would have tossed it in the trash.👍👍

      @@RestoreandRepair no problem I would like to ask about using maybe using Bed liner paint on the underside pieces to stop.it to rust

    • @RestoreandRepair
      @RestoreandRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brucebonkowski3037 It might be a little think but I guess it depends on what you are doing with the truck. A lot of guys have been using them as collectables and using them as show pieces. But if you are going to have someone play with it and you want it to last then it might not be a bad idea. If the truck is primed and how paint on it with clear, I dont see it rusting. If does rust it would take a long time for it to happen. - R&R

    I am not the smartest mechanic in the world but was taught to start by semi-cleaning what your working on and I have found that if you soak tonka metal in household vinegar for a couple of days, the paint comes right off with the rust.

      Hi Dennis, I specifically wanted to keep it dirty to make for a more extreme restoration. It seems as though a lot of people want the objects a little more clean which I had done in my next video. I sincerely am thankful for your comment as well as you stopping by my channel.
