My neighbor had a 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 . I loved the 1959 2 door hardtop . It was a very strong car . It was mint green with a white top . The car had no pillars on either side of the car . That’s what you call it a hardtop !! Green and white on top outside of the car is what you call a two tone paint job . It had a green interior . I believe it had a 292 V/8 engine inside of the car hood .
Gorgeous car with a nice, very 50s color combo. I always liked the Fairlane 500 roof style with the wrap-around backlight better than the Galaxie with its "Thunderbird-inspired" wide C-pillar and flat backlight. The large C-pillar/sail panel looked good on the 4-seat Thunderbird and the 1960s Lincoln Continentals but it became kind of an annoying marketing fad for Ford, who stuck it on everything (including Mustangs) whether it suited the car or not. I think putting it on the on the '59 Ford and calling it a Galaxie was not an improvement. But it worked. Buyers, especially those folks with lower middle class tastes by background or choice, went for the Thunderbird association hook, line and sinker. And Thunderbird, in turn, borrowed that wide sail panel styling cue from limousines, of course. On limousines, those wide, flat C-pillars gave privacy to the presumably rich and powerful passengers luxuriating in the back seat and scoffing at the little people outside....and NOTHING sets the desires of those middle classians on fire more than the pretension of being something better than middle class. This body style had better visibility, looked lighter, airier, more modern and graceful and was better integrated to the overall styling of the '59 Ford...and customers ditched all that for the fake "prestige look" of a "Thunderbird-inspired" roof. Oh, the status seekers. How silly they are! :D
I have the very same car, I was all white from new but I have done it in green / white, original 72,000 Miles, it has stainless fender skirts from new, power steering rocker mouldings rear speaker option & the hood mascot.. 292 fordomatic , It now is still 292 but I have put together a sweet Y block with a five speed (overdrive) manual trans..
