I've been holding a Golden Jarraxus for a while now and found myself unable to play it, I hope the golden status will stay when it becomes part of the core set.
Oh, just wait until he's being played in every single Warlock deck. Then, everyone is going to complain about how playing against/as Warlock feels the same or that the Warlock mirror is just a matter of who plays their Jaraxxus first. You'll see.

I very much agree with this take on killing bluegill warrior in Anyfin! I feel like this being the case, this counters the dev argument that wild is for playing your old decks. Wild can be a regulated eternal format
Auctioneer is exactly the kind of card you'd think they wouldn't want to design around but I like to think this means they've decided to stay away from really good cheap and free spells for a while 🤞🏻

I love that Brian's theorycrafting breaks the philosophy of why Taelan pulls your highest cost cord (his father being a powerful finisher), and moreso implies that Taelan associated with clowns. funnily enough, he did!

As somebody who exclusively plays Wild, the format alway feels like it's a afterthought for Blizzard. Changes are always for Standard, while in Wild we have been dealing with almost identical itterations of Reno Priest and Secret Mage for a year now.
I'm excited that Blizzard is using the core set to test out balance changes that feel much more incremental compared to their usual approach. Giving mark of nature a +1 health boost is a far cry from making pocket galaxy cost 5, for example. Hoping we see more small adjustments like this throughout the year.
When talking about the changes to board and bluegill, I don't think that will affect Wild: IIUC, these are core set cards; the charging variants will still be available in Wild within the Legacy set.
Well, according to www.hearthpwn.com/news/8029-changed-core-cards-will-replace-legacy-cards-with , it does look like they are replacing / nerfing these cards after all, in an intended (and understandable) fashion. It does contradict their initial stance about legacy vs. core, though
sniff :( after all these years greenskin has evaded me and thus i never got my parrots ... i almost crafted him a few months back and may still for wild adventures.
One big thing Kibler didn't touch on is the removal of Faerie Dragon. Puck was always a thorn in the devs' sides, because it broke the mold of dragons so badly. Cards like Dragonqueen Alextrasza that relied on the assumption that dragons were big expensive minions can low roll with Faerie Dragon. With the new rotation, the cheapest dragons will be Brightwing and Dreaming Drake, and even they can give a little extra value. This makes dragon generation much more consistent, because you will almost always get a midrange or expensive minion. (And even if you don't, you might make a new friend.)
The main application I see for Ritual of Doom is a way to destroy your own minion for 0 mana now that Sacrificial Pact is rotating. Sometimes that's something that Warlock needs to do, so it's nice to have a tool for it in the core set.
Warlock is my favorite class. It's interesting that these changes now make Midrange Warlock look like a pretty strong option. I really like the flexibility of midrange play, but before this I've always been forced to pretty much dump 10k dust into decks, create some weird OTK, or, most often, go full aggro with zoo or something.
Fun fact, Spider Tank was NOT the first 3 cost 3/4 in Hearthstone. Albeit, Spider Tank was the first 3 cost 3/4 with no abilities. Which was the first 3 cost 3/4?
After seeing many of the changes to the core cards it gets me a little more excited about expansions that revolve around Vanilla WoW. Clearly the spells gaining an element type will have some significant combo potential in the future, and the removal of say Hunter's Animal Companion might mean that we just get a legendary Huffer or Misha or something that synergises with the new focus on Beasts. Many of the other cards being removed or altered means that likely something new is coming to fill that slot, or maybe a drastic shake-up of the meta in general might be refreshing after such a stale meta expansion after expansion. I'd hope to see new decks in the next expansion with 10+ new includes instead of the usual 1-3. My dream for going back to vanilla with the Barrens and likely the next being focused on Lordaeron (pre-Forsaken), is the inclusion of something like Class Specs. I could imagine a 1 mana card always in your starting hand similar to quests but with a focus on choosing an iconic class spec, such as Fire Mage with a permanent bonus of +1 spell damage to fire spells, or Arcane Mage with draw a card if an Arcane spell is played, or Beastmaster Hunter with your hero power costs 0 if a beast is played this turn, Feral Druid where hero attack cleaves minions, and so on, really bringing identity and build synergy to iconic class specs every WoW player is familiar with. Surely it's not just me that would love something like this? It would work like an arena or field card from other card games where it stays in effect for the whole game but allows much more focus on specific minion or spell types, or maybe even weapons for say Arms Warrior for example.
Forged in the barrens is horde theme. After that will be alliance. Then battle between horde and alliance for the final set of the three. At least that’s how it seems going off the art they used for the teaser

The third one looks to be Alterac Valley at a guess, which would fit the theme of Alliance vs Horde. Either way I'm definitely looking forward to some vanilla/old school vibes again, I mean it's cool getting all cards and characters from the latest WoW expansions but everyone loves a bit of nostalgia from time to time.
Does anyone know if the cards we already have that are being added to the Core Set (say Babbling Book, for example), do we get both copies (the Core Set and the one we already have) or does it get replaced? Mostly wondering if I should disenchant the copies I have if they're superfluous.
If it leaves core set you won’t have it again, so if you want to use it in wild I wouldn’t bother disenchanting it Pretty sure you just get two copies of all the core cards

He's a 9 mana card that does 3 damage and gives 5 armor. Wasting your turn 9 or 10 on him is *very* bad. Sure, he's a monster for Control, but incredibly bad against Aggro or Midrange. Like, lose the game bad.
@@Satherian hes not that bad. Warlock doesnt need to rely on him against aggro, and so warlock can use other tools against it. The weapon can be good to remove small aggro minions in the later game, where aggro decks usually run out of steam
My question is if you dusted the core set cards in the past that are coming back do you get new copies when this becomes live? It's probably a yes but I have some doubts. Like if this is the true then why not just dust every copy of a card in the new core set before it comes out? Then you get a ton of dust and you would just get all of the cards back anyway.
there is a "classic" mode coming in that will only allow be played with the Old (actual) version of this cards (and will automatically unnerfed the ones that are nerfed still in wild (not revert the buff one tho) so if you dust your classic cards you cant play that mode.
The core set. Fiendish circle, ritual of doom. Good for darkest hour warlock. Spells that summon minions is good for big decks and control decks. Like petting zoo, barricade and in the core set fiendish circle.

The issue with Jaraxxus is that now Pally secrets and Sacrificial Pact should not work with him. They used to work due to Jaraxxus entering the board as a minion. This mean they just gave Warlocks a Hero with a 2 mana 6/6 with no downside.
I honestly love almost every decision they made in the classic set except one. Keeping Brawl in warrior. I was so 1000% sure it would be rotated out because other than aggro/pirate warrior, it has been in every single warrior deck I’ve played since the game came out. It’s crazy how many amazing removal tools get printed for warlock but so few of them get played because they’re just not better than brawl so who cares. I yearn for the day when I’m playing against warrior and I don’t have to think about playing around brawl for the first time.
Anyfin paladin and odd shaman have both been deleted by the core set change. I guess crystal core rogue too, but that’s been dead for a while Maybe even shaman too, but if flame tongue is unnerved it will be saved
I disagree about the disappointment around keeping Gadgetzan Auctioneer. It isn't oppressive at all, it's lost a huge amount of synergy cards, and it retains a solid combo draw engine; probably the least offensive one, especially losing moonfire and such.
I love Jaraxxus and that he got buffed, but at the same time, I'm a little bit afraid. If I'm playing a slower controlling deck, how am I EVER going to hope to beat control warlock with free 6/6s turn after turn, Tickatus, and Envoy Rustwix. That seems like such a miserably bad time for me playing a non-warlock controlling deck. Warlock seems like it will be an unbeatable king of value that will absolutely wipe the floor with any other class that wants to play a slower game, with no contest. Hmm.
a mean is not like the change actually make it 100% worth to play. Specially if other Hero cards get release with better effects when played. Everyone will run Jaraxxus obviusly but his Hero power is not that oppressive if you take in account that you need to play first any other leader and them finish with Jaraxxus. You can never get a chance of play him cause he is too slow for some matches. It will be strong but not opresive atleast on first sight.
I wonder if Murloc warleader will revert since it'll be in a format where "It's too confusing for new players" -_- won't really be much of an excuse, since many wild players are not new to the game.
Warleader buffing opposing minions was always stupid, didn’t make flavour sense and the one niche weakness of murloc mirrors was pointless Unless the card was changed in another way I’m forgetting?
@@Barely_Edited to my knowledge it didn't buff opposing murlocs. Looking up the old version they all say your murlocs, and having played with it, I dont remember it buffing the opponents. Maybe you're thinking of Old Murk-Eye which was buffed by opposing murlocs too? Edit: looking again, originally it was all other murlocs, you're right. They changed it to be your own, and changed it again to just be attack. I didnt play before the first change, which was in 2016 and it was changed again a year later, citing "confusion among new players" as the reason. If that's the case, the pirate lord should also have been nerfed, though I *may* be misremembering the reasoning, that always stuck out to me.
Love them making charge and face damage spells a more specialized class identity. Much like silence, it feels like a special thing now as opposed to a thing to me individual cards unique.
Well I like everyone else am happy about the new Jaraxxus but for the love of god hope they do something about "Tickatus" otherwise ladder will just be control warlock... and with a late game control tool like Jaraxxus it'll get even worse.
Most excited for paladin update, since SO many of the paladin cards in classic/basic just flatout sucked and are getting removed Sad that Guardian of Ancient Kings is still in there, even if it got that pointless buff, because the card is still just horrendously unplayable when compared to just about everything.
Jarraxxus did NOT need any buff and is imo too strong as is twisting nether than just wipes the other players hard work.Twisting nether is needed in a typical standard or wild play but in a core set play nope,both those cards are too strong.Jarraxxus will be in EVERY warlock deck.
I'll tell you why They got rid of summoning portal..... Deck of Chaos BUFF on a Summoning portal and Malygos..... Iv'e done it...... a 2 cost maly after a portal and a 3 cost faceless manipulator leaves u with 5 mana and +10 spell dmg. TRY IT B4 ITS 2 LATE. p.s. Having a sphere of sapience and Valdris felgore give you more consistency with the deck. Called it Dragon breath Otk.

4 mana 4/5 is a Chillwind Yeti, 5 mana 5/6 is a Pit Fighter, and 6 mana 6/7 is a Boulderfist Ogre.

For Nozdormu, I hope matchmaking takes it into account and preferentially matches you with other Nozdormu players.
I doubt it will, but you can always challenge your friends if you want to guarantee Nozdormu mode

Yes, all spells have tribes now. Lighting bolt is nature, chaos nova is Fel, holy Smite is holy etc.

Everyone will run Jaraxxus obviusly but his Hero power is not that oppressive if you take in account that you need to play first any other leader and them finish with Jaraxxus. You can never get a chance of play him cause he is too slow for some matches. It will be strong but not opresive atleast on first sight.
I wonder if Murloc warleader will revert since it'll be in a format where "It's too confusing for new players" -_- won't really be much of an excuse, since many wild players are not new to the game.
Warleader buffing opposing minions was always stupid, didn’t make flavour sense and the one niche weakness of murloc mirrors was pointless

@@Barely_Edited to my knowledge it didn't buff opposing murlocs. Looking up the old version they all say your murlocs, and having played with it, I dont remember it buffing the opponents. Maybe you're thinking of Old Murk-Eye which was buffed by opposing murlocs too?
Edit: looking again, originally it was all other murlocs, you're right. They changed it to be your own, and changed it again to just be attack. I didnt play before the first change, which was in 2016 and it was changed again a year later, citing "confusion among new players" as the reason. If that's the case, the pirate lord should also have been nerfed, though I *may* be misremembering the reasoning, that always stuck out to me.

Love them making charge and face damage spells a more specialized class identity. Much like silence, it feels like a special thing now as opposed to a thing to me individual cards unique.

Well I like everyone else am happy about the new Jaraxxus but for the love of god hope they do something about "Tickatus" otherwise ladder will just be control warlock... and with a late game control tool like Jaraxxus it'll get even worse.

Sad that Guardian of Ancient Kings is still in there, even if it got that pointless buff, because the card is still just horrendously unplayable when compared to just about everything.
Tickatus should now cost 9 mana or burn at maximum 3 cards! If he would cost like 8 mana and burn 4 cards, i think it would be still be very good.

Jarraxxus did NOT need any buff and is imo too strong as is twisting nether than just wipes the other players hard work.Twisting nether is needed in a typical standard or wild play but in a core set play nope,both those cards are too strong.Jarraxxus will be in EVERY warlock deck.

Iv'e done it...... a 2 cost maly after a portal and a 3 cost faceless manipulator leaves u with 5 mana and +10 spell dmg.
