- Yamada: The Samurai of Ayothaya (Thai: ซามูไร อโยธยา) is a 2010 Thai action movie directed by Nopporn Watin. The film features renowned Muay Thai boxers Buakaw Por. Pramuk, Saenchai Sor. Kingstar, Yodsanklai Fairtex, and Anuwat Kaewsamrit along with the main cast of actors.
Plot:
Attacked and wounded by a group of traitorous Japanese ninja, a mercenary samurai named Yamada (Ozeki) is rescued and nursed back to health by a group of Siamese warriors, in service to the King of Ayothaya. Confused by the mysterious identity of his assailants, Yamada stays with the warriors, befriending them, learning their art, and eventually pledging his loyalty and life to their cause and kingdom.
Historical basis:
The lead character in the film is based on Yamada Nagamasa, a Japanese adventurer who later became a governor in the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

Sand Shadow Considering that other actors were ex stadium champion ( Lumpini and Rajadamnern ) and all time great legends such as Saenchai , Charoenthong , Anuwat Kaewsamrit , Yodsanklai and Somjit Jongjohor there wasn't really a great choice of easy opponents .

Atal Mishra Muay Thai is pretty much useless on the ground so that’s a weakness right there. A BJJ fighter or a wrestler could take the Muay Thai fighter down and it’s a wrap. That being said, there’s fighters in the UFC who know Muay Thai very well and get submitted and TKO’d all the time so yeah man.

too bad judo didn’t exist back then and the umbrella term to Japanese striking arts was jiu jitsu but it wasn’t the jiu jitsu we have today. Then, they used similar kata to what was shown in the beginning of the film because you could use it while carrying a katana. That’s the beauty of this movie towards the end. The Japanese man learns how to fight Siamese boxing and then gifts a katana to master Bua and Bua learns the Japanese martial arts. Siamese boxing can be used alongside their dhaabs (the swords they used). If you haven’t seen the movie it’s very good and entertaining. Highly recommended

I can't stand the way they direct Thai child actors. The girl's crying ("Sorry, Champa, I didn't know it would turn out like this") is so totally fake, pure pastiche. With the budget of this size, you'd think they'd cast a better child actor, or a better director.
