McEnroe's game translates well with age. Do you think Rafa will be able to play anything close to his current style of play in his mid 50's? No chance. McEnroe has always been about touch and redirecting pace with minimal effort. So while he's slowed down a lot, he still has the skills to construct and shorten points.
Mac ALSO practices a lot more and hits with everyone Isner, Sampras. Mac a is a very good attacking Tennis player, always changing the pace of his shot, great ball placement and control and most importantly great feel. At 57 he is still great to watch, tactically superb. A very smart Tennis player.
I've saw Mac play live a couple of years ago and he was carrying more muscle than he did in his twenties. Sports science and nutrition is a big factor now in keeping these old guys in service
The difference between John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors when they reached their respective 57th birthdays is striking. Jimbo's body fell apart in his 50's, while Mac has stayed healthy and looks great playing even now. He's obviously taken great care of himself. Probably much better than in his days on the ATP tour.
I always felt the ATP dropped the ball in terms of keeping fan interest by not organizing a better senior circuit. Yes, these legends tours have been around awhile, but I really think they needed to revolve around the grand slams. I KNOW there are senior events at the slams, but they werent big enough to attract many of the retired pros. Had they had more glamour, PR, and media coverage, I think we may have had a few more great years to see guys like Mac, Andre, Jimmy, etc. play.
I know Mac won and decisively, But I also can tell when someone is just putsing around. Obvious Mats wasnt trying. Mats had plenty of time to unload his 2 fisted backhand, but sliced the entire match.
Mac lost to Pistol Pete 4,4 in Sept 2016 in London. Very close match. Many regard Pete as a top 10 player even now, with his signature booming serve. How can Mats hope to compete with Mac? Didnt see a single 2-handed backhand, only slice.
Radha Arunkumar A top 10 player even now....he wasnt a Top 10 at the end of his career man...you know this? Not wanna take away anything from Pete or John tho. Both are great Champions and I agree that Mac is pure genius. His level of play in his late 50s in unbelievable. He could compete in Futures right now.
I agree that he isn't a top 10 player now, and neither Mac nor Pete would claim they were - though Mac might still be able to play some doubles, and Sampras - if healthy and motivated could credibly hang in the top 100. I will disagree though about the end of his career - when your last match is winning the US open against Agassi.....you're still top 10 regardless of computer rankings.
let's say it: "Mac probably would beat any of the top women players" who are so standardized in their style, that "la difference" is just in their appearances
Two great players indeed and John is an authentic tennis legend.
pure talent does not get old
You have to love how Mac's backhand wind-up for the powerful topspin drive, the cutting slice, and the dropshot are exactly the same....
Why wouldn't they be?
@@ST-xg3gy because they’re completely different strokes with different swing paths.

Nadal at 60 would bear 60yo mcretard 6060

Best hands ever.

Macs all class a magician with the raquet great touch
Mc Enroe a toujours le phisique de ses 20 ans...Bravo...
Are these guys still playing that horrendously long Davis Cup match?
Yes
Mac never lets up.

JC was a grinder whereas Mac was a finesse player.
@@sk-un5jq I think you've responded to the wrong comment. Total non sequitur......
Mac Basic open style seems the best in à long terme carrière
I still think he can beat Serena.
He'd bagel her.
She would be lucky to win 2 games
Serena's a scaredy cat. She'll wait until supermac is 80 yo.
They could go play in WTA and be number 1 and 2.
Maybe they could identify as women to win titles on the W tour? 😅
Best talent ever
3:41, Game-Set-Match McEnroe: always the same (old) story...

Incroyable, si je jouait comme Mac je pourrais disputer les nationaux en France.

Mats sliced a lot, even when at his best. Nothing unusual here.
Yeah, he just chose to lose and be dominated. Coukd have won if he wanted to. Sure he did.
Yeah he definitely didn't care less. Tanked it. You and me - armchair analysts - can drill into players' minds effortlessly.......
looks good

Sampras' serve will always keep him relevant.
atta boy mac
Much better baseline then the baseliner. 👍
Nike sponsorship for life. McEnroe.
You! Have! Got! To be kidding me!!!! Are you blind???? That was in by six inches!!!😀 love ya John boy!
Americans love the same joke told 10,000 times! You guys are gold for performers!
Mac probably would beat any of the top women players, but it wouldn't prove anything. Men are stronger, women are prettier, and vive la difference.
Vive!

Game, Set & Mats: go home, Wilander!
