Man that waterfall... as a kid cried in rage pain lol Game's designers were sadic over kids ;) Can't wait to be King - and Hakuna Matata was terribles levels for me. Was too hard as a kid. Managed to finish the game anyway out of kid rage
I thought that too. I think the real trick is to just jump on the slower falling logs & wait for opportunities. Sometimes, you jump on a faster moving 1 & quickly work your way up.
It may seem that way, but some of the loop points in the samples for this OST can get to be complete jokes, like in this song for example. Also, tuning problem in this song.
I looked at the original SPC's for the songs, and most loops that have more than two cycles in them have a lot of popping in them that most other composers attempt, and usually succeed, to avoid. For these samples to sound better, I just went and resampled them and usually restricted the loops to one cycle. However, one particular sample, I actually had to seek out the origin for. Luckily I did find it. and also discovered just how badly looped it was because it didn't even finish the actual original loop. In Zoop and Brainies, all the samples were tuned in a way where you could have a tuning constant without having to worry about samples being off-key from each other, because they weren't in that regard. The Lion King likely had a much more time-crunched audio development schedule, so the samples were in turn not as well monitored as Zoop and Brainies were. Yes, some of Lion King's samples were direct downsamplings of the original sound clips, but when it came hightime for making loops, not many of them sounded natural. In this song for instance, almost all the looped samples popped in the transitions back to a given offset, that or the loops were just plain poorly set up, only exception being the acoustic bass. Now, to quickly turn attention to the tuning problem from earlier, one of the samples, specifically the one of a few flue samples being used, actually sounded pretty off-key compared to the rest of the soundtrack. Likely the samples were handled in the same engine as that of Kirby's Avalanche, because except for Hakuna Matata, the rest of the soundtrack's tuning was handled pretty well. If anything, this song is nearly comparable to the SNES version of The Day the Wool Stood Still. Probably if this game's rights was given to Konami of America instead of Virgin Interactive, the game's sound design would've been given more a bit more attention in the development cycle.
That's because you are used to SNES version. I personally used to Megadrive version and like Megadrive version which sounds right and in tone with right keys. The Snes version to me sounds like out of tune MIDI, with all instruments alienated from each other. Again, this is matter of tastes and which platform you were on, during your childhood. No point to argue which one is better - it is useless.

I always loved to get to this stage, partly to hear the music starting at 0:55 and partly to see the cool background of the level . . . Had to get past that stampede first, though . . . >__>

For years i would randomly whistle the part that starts at :37-42, and had long forgotten where it had come from (i thought maybe Mario? Aero the Acrobat? No clue just that it would get stuck in my head), until after Covid I downloaded an emulator to show the game to my 7 year old and was so ecstatic (my wife had also whistled it for years having no clue where I got it from). That was probably the most frustrating level for me, and I can put that mystery in the books
Hakuna Matata wasn't impossible level, I used to think that too,but I keep trying until I reach the top to fight the boss level, in fact I pass the whole game and played again over and over and it fun the past the whole game.

It's funny to think that the two chillest themed levels of the game (I can't Wait to be King and Hakuna Matata) are the hardest levels of the game.

Hakuna Matata wasn't impossible level, I used to think that too,but I keep trying until I reach the top to fight the boss level, in fact I pass the whole game and played again over and over and it fun the past the whole game.
