I think this portrayal is actually good. I mean the chances of a school shooting teenager playing violent video games is very high considering most boys that age play them. It's only realistic to have him play these games aswell. Normally however, they only blame it on the video games and ignore everything else. This time they show that there's always more behind it, and that it's not the games fault, but him being sexually abused (and the divorce probably, he needed a new father figure and that pedophile took advantage of that). They actually portrayed a pretty realistic situation.
@@jsas2047 although that may be true why they play these games is important, it's like how when I was severely depressed for a period of time I listen to a lot of depressing and sad music, watched a lot of horror and other sick stuff, I had no reason to be sad, to be sadistic, unhealthy possessions with watching people hurt, which is why my outside actions fed this. I don't like watching watching people hurt because that's who I am, just as many people don't really like violent video games, but sometimes in dark places you need to feel things.

It's just that most shooter games are in multiplayer, so they can actually help outcasts connect socially, get a friend group, etc. For most of them it's not actually about the violence, but about skill, achievements, and doing something with their friends (especially if they're socially awkward, interacting with new people irl can be hard, hiding behind a screen is easier in the beginning). Watching gore, being into super violent stuff or actually hurting others (especially animals) would be alarming though, exactly for your reason. Someone who just plays these games with their friends most likely won't become a school shooter. Someone who also watches gore, idolizes school shooters, things like that, is very likely to at least plan one. In general it's a good idea to talk with your children though, even if they don't plan a school shooting, they could still be planning suicide, or just be in a dark place mentally. Even if they're not a danger to others, their parents should look out for them and offer them a safe space to talk about their feelings. His death could've been prevented :(
