Let me know what you guys think of these! Second TikTok Review: th-cam.com/video/gV8slS0sAB8/w-d-xo.html
i think i saw a girl making lasagna on a dishwasher while washing the dirty dishes on one of uncle roger's video
stupidity at its finest
tiktok is one of the worst apps I have seen
6:24
2nd time i watch and hear that rice dish is just a side dish... we asian rice is life not rice is side dish 😂
The hilarious part is the more gadgets you have, the more stuff you have to clean up. I hate to say this, but next Taco waffles! (cringe). Thanks for another great video.
The worst was the pasta one. You've already got pasta ! That's like wrecking your car so you can use the parts to make a car !
You'll have to excuse me. I need to wash my Big Mac in the toilet.
I just fell off my chair 🤣🤣
yeah it was pretty bad! haha
🤣

Foodies: “British Cuisine is the worst in the world”. TikTok: “Hold my beer…”
british cuisine is flavourful and edible compared to tiktok cuisine.
@@skelebro9999 I just wanted to use it as a placeholder for my joke. I am British, LOVE British cuisine and think it’s some of the best in the world. Thank you for your comment, though…
@@jaylagan5899 nah it's fine. i'm just trolling.
😂
But British humour can be so crass an ill-educated, Keep trying and if this had been a video about British food, there might have been a tiny bit of relevancy. but I hope your punchline is much funnier than I expect
Only thing i took away from this video is to NEVER accept any lunch or dinner invitations from BrainRot users.
😂
I hate to say it but my friend made some very good Mac and cheese and some lemon dessert from tik tok videos. There are a few good recipes out there among the crap.
@@benp3592 this is not a sound argument. It's like finding out there's only a few poison pills in your medicine bottle
@@benp3592 yea it takes some serious digging to get through that pile of manure to find a "gem"...
Ann Reardon on her "How to Cook That" channel tested the dishwasher method and confirmed it doesn't raise the temperature high enough and for long enough to cook the food safely. It's just gross too. Blurgh
She's awesome. I could listen to her all day
Ann is amazing
Also most dishwasher filters aren't that clean or particularly easy to clean so it's like you steamed your salmon with dirty dishwater. A lot of tik tok "recipes" are more in the vein of disgusting clickbait like the goal is to anger and disgust the person watching to get them to interact rather than actually produce anything edible.
@@gnomersy1087 To be fair to TikTok, the Dishwasher Salmon is almost as old as dishwashers, Vincent Price was even debuting it on the Tonight Show in 1975 and it's something my grandma used to do back in the 60s according to my mom.
I don't recall her conclusively proving that the time wasn't high enough though. I recall (though I could be wrong) that the temperature hits temperatures that will kill all bacteria if held long enough and it was theoretically possible that her salmon actually hit those temperatures for long enough to be safe.
pasta in blender hurts me I am not even italian
Haha
It´s so dumb, I can´t imagine how this idea ever occured to anybody!
Not only would you use wheat flour for fresh pasta with eggs, as opposed to semolina (without eggs) for spaghetti.
It´s also more expensive.
And I imagine sth as hard as uncooked spaghetti will grind down the knives of your blender very quickly.
Me, too. And the “pasta” she made was way too thick, it’s going to be doughy and gross. And the whole idea is insane - if you want fresh pasta start with flour or semolina, all you’re doing is adding unnecessary time and expense to what should be a (relatively) quick and simple process.
I just thought of the garbage, where it belongs
Me too - it looked like grit.
Where to start with the pasta lady. First of all she has her priorities backwards. She spent all that time with the pasta just to use store bought sauce. Second, no matter how much you grind up the pasta, it is still dried pasta. Semolina will absorb water, but dried pasta needs to be boiled. The whole thing is pointless. Great video.
she put eggs in, so no semolina, just flour
She actually had to put pressure to cut the sausage-thick strips of pasta. That means, the pasta dough will stick in between the teeth in chunks 🤮
These 'hacks' remind me of a favorite saying: "Just because you CAN do something doesn't always mean you SHOULD" lol 🤣🤣
yep!
Regarding the first "omelette", you could point out that there is the issue of whether the bag is going to pass chemicals into the food.
I was surprised he didn't call this out in the video, it's a serious health concern cooking food in bags without ensuring they're suitable for the given job. In the case of this particular video the chip package used definitely is not suitable for any kind of cooking.
The bag is a food storage bag, its already food safe on the interior. It shouldn’t pass off anything when heated either.
@@kmfdmman It's a chip package designed to be safe at normal room temperatures, it is not designed to be safely heated especially at or past water boiling point temperature. Looking up chip packaging they use a very thin multi-layer design commonly consisting of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP), Low-density Polyethylene (LDPE) and thermoplastic resin. Of particular interest is the LDPE which is known to leach chemicals into food and is considered stable up to 85C and has a melting point in the low 100s, definitely not something you really want to be cooking food with.
Did she disinfect the outside of the bag? Who knows where it's been.
The garlic cutting device is very useful for people with one hand, or limited dexterity in one or both hands
Yes but she has 2
I actually use one, because I have rheumatism. However I find I rarely use it, and just live with more coarse garlic in my dishes.
@@springbokspringbok3249just rechop while rotating the knife
@@springbokspringbok3249 Can you use a garlic press with one hand?
I don't know how much force, if any, the gadget requires, but limited grip strength is really the only situation I can think of where it would outperform similar tools. Like a garlic press, which is probably easier and quicker (and easier to clean).
Wasting water and energy to bake salmon, because putting it in an oven is too god damn difficult.
I've made salmon in the microwave before. Takes about 7 minutes. All you do is wrap it in some good plastic wrap that's sticky on one side, sealing it in the process. It actually comes out fully cooked and doesn't even look like you microwaved it. Was taught this method by my brother, but I don't think many people would try this because of the stigma of microwaves. 1) people think it's ineffective at cooking and 2) people think it's hazardous to food. But all you need is the right method
Cooking something in the dishwater is an old student trick to save money. You would use the dish washer both for washing the dishes while also making food at the same time. That way you're using the water and energy that would get used anyways.
Obviously this TikTok showcase with an otherwise entirely empty dishwater is stupid.
I mean, most Tiktok recipes are just people doing the dumbest thing possible for views. They don't actually cook that way for themselves or think these are good methods/recipes.
I hope.
My friend started violently swearing in italian when he saw the spaghetti in the blender 😂
🤣😏🤣
That is the only reasonable reaction.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I did too and i don't even speak Italian 😅
I firmly believe the world belongs to the next generation. I have always been the educator that was happy when the pupil became the master and so I have embraced this new way of cooking. I dry aged steak in the clothes dryer of course, then used the washing machine to sous vide. finally, the iron was the perfect way to get that crust I love on a great steak. I diced my veg by attaching each item to a firework and launching it at neighbours chicken wire fence, but had to ask for my diced carrot to be returned twice. Fortunately I live in a place large enough to swing a cat, so she because a salad spinner and loved every moment. 🙂(OMG your face was priceless as you saw how crazy these things are).
lol
With all of these videos I really don't know where things are going. I can only imagine if someone made these videos in the 90s
Well said.
Thanks for the chuckle.
I spit out my drink. And then laughed for minutes. Thanks.
You see, I've seen that "risotto" recipe before (with no parmesan thank god). Where I live we call it continental rice or french onion rice. From what i can tell, the butter ends up coating the rice, so it takes longer to absorb the liquid and cook but also retains its moisture when reheated, so it's useful for potlucks. Which means somebody took a perfectly okay casserole dish and said "I'm going to make it worse and insult a country all at once!"
That woman making her rice triggered my gag reflex. Also, I think the guy with the burger was just trolling.
I agree re the burger guy. I wasn't entirely sure he was trolling until he chucked the fries into the toaster.
Burger guy was definitely a parody. The fries gave it away.
A few thoughts, 1. Anytime a v idea starts with “I learned this in (blank).” I immediately say, “No you didn’t.” 2. Love that you inserted Tiktok Lionfield, the Italians, in that segment. 3. In my opinion, most of the Tiktok cooking videos are wasting food, which is a pet peeve of mine. Great reaction video as always, love your content.
🤣🤣 Thank you!
Good lord. I can't even fathom how expensive that whole fillet of salmon would even cost, let alone wanting to ruin perfectly delicious looking fish by "cooking" it in the dishwasher. Food waste should be a crime.
I was also thinking that - 4 slices cost me $80 - why? I sincerely ask - why?
yeah like...i can't even afford to buy something like this and they are wasting it for a shit to probably throw away later...
Exactly what I was just saying to my husband. Huge whole salmon with a bunch of fresh herbs to just throw it in the dishwasher. Bored rich ppl maybe??
I live in a third world country, and piece of salmon like that legitimately costs as much as my college fees.
I wouldn't even trust a dishwasher to clean my plates
I love this madness trend of making fresh pasta with ground dry pasta, as if flour weren't generally available.
And not only is it the same amount of work once you have your ground dry pasta flour, it's more work to make the ground dry pasta flour in the first place!
that "pasta" is one portion from a whole package totally worth it....
Yeah, let's not buy some semolina flour, let's spend a whole lot more on a packet of spaghetti then blend it down to create a "flour" of sorts.
Every home in Italy does it this way. Even the old grandmothers living in the remote villages of Tuscany. They've all got Ninja blenders and packets of dried pasta.
ok before you diss it, waffle irons are pretty great for making all kinds of things aside from waffles. I personally don't do anything pizza-like in mine, but I regularly do socca, hash browns, fish cakes, and other savory stuff that benefits from a nice crispy crust with soft center. The other ones are pretty atrocious though - the pasta in the blender left me baffled :D
I don't have kids yet so... :)
fair enough @@ChefJamesMakinsonand I never plan on having any 😏🤣
I’ve heard that waffle irons are also good for reusing the bread stuffing that Americans serve with Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinners. People either top the resulting waffles with leftover gravy, or use them as the “bread“ for a sandwich of leftover turkey.
The waffle-calzone seems kind of legit. I don't own a waffle maker because I keep a pretty lean kitchen (kitchen-aid being a permanent 5000kg fixture of my counter)
The specific example shown looks p good for making a quick lunch for multiple folks, is still using legit ingredients and the crust doesn't look hideous (personally speaking, mileage may vary) Either way, give me some better sauce over that glopular paste she served it with, better filling and maybe some chemically induced munchies and I ain't gonna complain about it. So much of the soul of cooking is iteration, derivation and deviation.
With that being said. It's a toss up between a living creature dying only be ruined & desecrated in a nasty dishwasher. OR the absolutely dryest and overcooked risotto on planet earth.
Fish actually takes a lot less time to cook than the cycle of the dishwasher.
Salmon Meuniere
Salt
Pepper
Flour
Butter
Cappers ( if desired)
Lemon juice
Parsley
Take the fish pat it dry , put salt , pepper to taste and little tiny bit of flour , cook in butter ( shouldn't need more then a few minutes on each side) take the fish out of the pan . In the butter the fish was cooked in put lemon juice and parsley ( and cappers) then put it on top of the fish .
Very easy shouldn't take more then 10 minutes from start to finish and very delicious.
Man look at the hands of the girl making garlic. With that claws she would have garlic smell for weeks. That's why she loves this gadget.
She was frying stuff in that outfit too. Her sweater/cardigan is gonna stink for days.
as someone who has grown up with constant droughts and water restrictions, I gotta say I LOVE that the wasteful use of water is being called out! It's a pet peeve of mine and it's great to hear someone else being sensible and calling out wasteful behavior.
I grew up in Tucson so for me its a big waste
I'm thinking sticking a fork into a working blender... is a perfect representation of the cognitive levels we're dealing with here 💀

The obvious problem with the pizza waffles to me is that a waffle lacks the space for any meaningful sized pocket of filling. There is a device that would give a more pleasing result and is readily available, which is one of those sandwich toasters that crimp the edges. But a waffle iron is surely really very suboptimal for the job.
The garlic gadget seems superfluous but I can kind of imagine it could be useful to someone with arthritis or something.
I would also guess that the dough would be rock hard as it doesn't have any room to expand.
@@JoannaHammond You might be right and even having suggested it I do find myself second guessing if you could get a good result with unbaked dough in the sandwich toaster either. There is probably a good reason why you don't commonly see people trying. If the dough is thin enough though, I'm not certain how much of a problem expansion would be. You can get some ultra thin pizza bases that do not really rise much during baking, other than around the crust. Maybe there is a chance it would be more crispy than hard? I'm not sure.
I do bake bread semi-regularly but I cannot say as I feel especially compelled to test this.
even ive seen someone frozen mac n cheese batch and waffle press it.
Good? eh..maybe?
Works? Yeah but i bet its mushy
@@Karras353 Having had cause to actually make "pizza" in a sandwich pocket maker (back in my childhood in the '80s and '90s), raw dough does work but it's faster and cleaner to just use bread or flour tortillas.
I have a stuffed waffle maker that flips over to cook both side evenly. You can stuff things in it, but you're right, the stuffing can't be too much, and even stuffed it makes for something that's best to dip in a sauce or top with something. However, it actually does make for a good pizza base when stuffed with typical pizza fillings and when the "dough" has finely chopped pepperoni inside it.

The pasta one is by FAR my favorite.
How to go through a mostly correct process to make good fresh pasta but be so wrong at the same time 😂
Buy flour, add eggs, make dough. No dismembering machine required!

How can you just jumpscare us with the paella waffle like that
"I learned rhis trick in italy" yes, if there's one thing i know about italians, it's that they LOVE breaking pasta, especially spaghetti
Hahahaha that guy with the toaster was trolling for sure
10:35 that 'wow' felt like he was on gunpoint to say that 😂
Chef James, not only should Italians look away, everyone should look away. 😂 Chef James sees burger rinse. The puzzled look mixed with slight contempt, priceless. 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, the waffle pizza is a pretty great idea. I've done similar things with my waffle iron. It's basically like a panini press but with even more surface area. So you get some really good crisp in there. I actually have a whole cookbook full of recipes to make weird things in a waffle iron.
Certainly not haute cuisine, but it's fun and tasty.
The bottle trick is pretty cool though, a chef like you can separate the yolk with shells but someone who rarely cooks can nick the yolk with the edge of the shell it is going to break.
And bottle is practically a plastic waste, so reusing it as yolk separator is kinda neat.
You can also just use your hand to separate the yolk feom the white.
Tiktokville is the place where people are encouraged to be stupid cause everyone is also encouraged to let go of their sense of shame.
From watching Chefs Brian Tsao and Paul Demaniel react to a beautiful home cooked meal to watching a man cook a Spaghetteo sandwich to this. My TH-cam feed is a box of chocolates.
Go back to cat videos, usually less traumatic
Lol, she be like "there's no eggs in dried pasta?, But they make pasta with eggs in Italy, this is just too vegan for me and it definitely needs eggs" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everything she said about the pasta, the thickness, the shape and so on.
YOU CAN DO ALL OF THAT WITH ACTUAL FRESHLY MADE PASTA!
I really loved this video. You reminded me of this thing my ex mother-in-law would make when we would camp called “ eggs in a bag” basically you would throw all the omelette ingredients into a bag and then it would boil for 45 minutes ….. while everyone was starving.
These hacks are so bad he took his glasses off so he wouldn't have to look at them. 😅
2:19 Your British Reaction has returned 😂

I need some dinner ideas... I have a dishwasher, and a washing machine for that matter, but I might use my oven, cooktop and Ninja Foodi instead...
I've actually cooked frozen pizzas in the toaster before back when I didn't have any other cooking appliances. Of course I flipped it on it's side and used it like a toaster over and made sure to only use those tiny, cheap pizzas so the cheese wouldn't stick. Worked in a pinch!
I have been experimenting with induction, it is not bad but merely a sublimental technique

Hi Chef! Love your content! Little gadgets like the garlic chopper are actually really helpful for people like me who have issues with their hands; there are days I can't reliably hold a knife and use it to chop, and silly things like that garlic roller and veggie choppers help me continue to make homemade food. There's nothing wrong with a knife and cutting board, but for some disabled cooks, those plastic things are lifesavers. Would love to see you look into them more!
As someone who loves Lays Magic Masala, that first TikTok made me cry! The whole point of the chips/crisps is their crunch, which is completely ruined with a hand blender

ok, now it is funny, cause I read manjar blanco and I think about "menjar blanc", a dessert from my city, Reus, in Catalonia. But when I search Manjar blanco it seems something a little different. I need him to do both desserts, now.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought one of those garlic chopper things. And yes, it took me longer to clean that useless gadget. I agree with James, just use a chefs knife and a cutting board to chop garlic.
Aren't garlic presses fairly common.
I don't like cutting garlic on a board since the board can take on the flavour. My grandma would yell at me if I cut onions or garlic on a cutting board other than the onion board.
I have a garlic press as well, but I hardly use it. If you keep your cutting board sanitized after cutting garlic or onions on it ,then you'll be fine. I use separate(dishwasher safe)cutting boards for produce and meats. I give them a good rinse and toss them in the dishwasher. Then they're nice and clean. No oder!
@@daphnepearce9411 I'm a garlic press believer. There was a moment when all the cooking influencers said to just cut rather than smash your garlic to keep the flavour inside and to prevent the garlic from oxidising but now they are all smashing the garlic before cutting to release more flavour and making it easier to cut I feel like it was all a sham and I might as well use the press if I'm immediately incorporating the garlic.
@jakx2ob Sounds good, yes I remember when garlic presses were used often in cooking videos. I still prefer my good ol (sharp)chefs knife for garlic. In fact it's my favorite kitchen gadget.

From best to worst:
- Avocado tray: yes, pretty much the only one with some sense.
- Bottle as a yolk separator: this one is somewhat useful like you said, but I feel like the bottle won't retain its shape when squeezing it, so not very good. There are silicon gadgets that do this better (and still not as good as using the fingers or the shells while cracking it).
- Waffle pizza: OK, so... This intrigues me and lowkey would like to try. Sue me, Italia. (La paella ya no, gracias)
- Potato chips... omelette?: I mean, you can make it. It's just that making it into the bag is like adding an extra layer of difficulty for no reason really.
- Risotto: same as above. You can make it, it will kinda work, but it's just a long-ass way to do a simple task for the sake of it.
- "Fresh" pasta: no.
- Dishwasher salmon: not just unnecessary and ecologically irresponsible, it's dangerous.
- Reheating fast food in toaster: stupid, dumb, useless. Obviously made for clout and views (well, like most of these), but with the added risk of someone not very bright or a kid trying to replicate it and breaking the toaster or potentially causing a fire.
I would've put the pasta as the worst, but at least there is no danger to it (unless if you're standing next to an Italian).
For me the pasta is the worst :)

James' way of saying 'that's not right' will always kill me with laughter
As a certified food safety manager
if you cook salmon in your dishwasher
this is a war crime
Multiple people have tried it (using measurements of the internal temperature of the fish over time) and it is possible to do it safely. A diswasher reaches hot enough for long enough, that it barely brings a *thin* piece of salmon up to sufficient bacterial reduction according to food service guidelines to be considered pasteurized. But the effort and equipment required to ensure that you're actually doing it safely in *your* dishwasher far outweighs any possible use of this "trick". It is far less effort to just cook it normally.
I could see your RAGE with the pasta in the blender! You are going to make this, I can tell you loved it.... Thanks James. Love ya work!

Any fish can be cooked in the dishwasher. No soap of course but make sure it is configured for heated water, and heat dry. It also has to be wrapped well so no water gets into the meat. This has been done for a couple of decades or more.
I learned a few things from that video:
- Rare chosen ones by destiny make pizza waffles.
- Salmon watching from heaven is sad to be treated like a dirty plate.
- Some people have a wish to die while using a blender.
- Patties need to be washed.
- You're free to buy a new toaster each time you want to use it to heat cheese.
- Italian culture can be disrespected and destroyed and it's totally normal it seems.
I didn't cook that poorly when I was a student and that was a case of "Does it come in a tin? Is it cheap?" and things had to tick both boxes! The pasta in a blender was painful to watch, I consider pasta a treat and yes it's worth making fresh. Which is why I have pasta flour in the pantry and fresh eggs. It's not exactly rocket surgery!
So much stupidity, in the kitchen, for profit. This is the beginning of the end of the restaurant industry.
I absolutely love your pronunciation of the different dishes like "rissoto" or "pizza" with the accents. It just shows your respect for the cuisine
Hi James, I love your content. Keep up the good work.
I do have a question tough, what is your opinion on people that cook food on the engines of their cars while driving ?
I myself can't imagine that something like that can be a healthy thing.
I have never thought of doing it and starting a fire would save you the gas
@@ChefJamesMakinson I completely agree, also there is the risk of the food's oil spilling on the engine. The food not being cooked all the way through and more.
Thanks for the video, chef!
you are welcome!
Watching her use a metal whisk on that non-stick pan was its own horror movie.
It's hilarious seeing people rediscover Dishwasher Salmon. Surprisingly not a TikTok invention, it's been a thing for nearly as long as dishwashers have existed. My grandma used to do dishwasher salmon, when my mom was growing up back in the 60s and Vincent Price even popularized it on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson back in 1975.
It's uh...it's definitely something alright.
The twist of the knife in my heart is cutting the unholy “pasta” with the fork to eat. She went to the trouble of destroying the spaghetti to change its shape, just cut it in squares at that point…
Lmao the waffle maker pizza. Man, seeing Ordinary Sausage put everything in his waffle maker has me desensitized to things like that.
Also there's an episode of Home Improvement where Tim tries to "poach" fish in his dishwasher so I assume that's where the idea kicked off on the mainstream a while back. It came out with exploded fish all over the dishwasher and he says "I uh.. went with the pot scrubbing selection" lol.
In Germany, you will find "scrambled eggs" cooked in a bag, cut into cubes, in some soups. It's called "Eierstich" - Google claims it's called egg custard in english, but this is savory for soups, and not a sweet dessert.
As you may know, you’re one of my favorite chefs doing this! I’ve reached out to a few others to recommend collabs. I really imagine you’ll take off very soon to that next level, and I will be so happy for you and the viewers who get to learn from you, be encouraged and entertained.
For the video clips today, it was so hard to watch.
I do like the avocado tip which I’ve seen but haven’t tried. Seems like it could be a fast way to scrape all the fruit if you’re going fast and need bulk. I’m from the south and will make that much but I just cut it and scoop.
That burger was so gross.
I did see a hack experiment (maybe on Sorted when they couldn’t use pans or something in a challenge), and one of them put sesame seeds in the little tray of the toaster to try to toast them, and it apparently worked. I thought it was interesting for perhaps a college student in a dorm that couldn’t cook but had toaster and a love for everything cream cheese bagels.
Thank you as always!!!
Thank you so much! I have been sending letters to collab and so far nothing. :/
@@ChefJamesMakinson Try not to get too discouraged. Be persistent with what you’re doing and stay positive. You’re a natural and have a different approach to the videos you make that appeals to many, and it’s a dynamic that is very needed in the industry. Keep pushing and growing. It matters to people.
@@ChefJamesMakinson, Vincenzo said it would be a “beautiful experience” to work with you and collab. 😁
Real Italians take Dried pasta from pasta trees and grind it into flour.
Semolina? Never heard of it... Is that Marge Simpson's sister?
Pasta comes from the pasta tree!
My foster mother made fish in the dishwasher way back in the 1970s. The thing then was to put it in when you were washing the dishes! Well wrapped of course, so the detergent didn’t get in. I don’t remember what it tasted like, but it suspect it was the trigger for my extreme dislike of fish. Chicken breast, asparagus, leeks, snow peas, baby broad beans… all in the dishwasher with the dirty dishes. Good times 😂
