I just finished the full video of this tutorial. I was drawing my cat simultaneously and it is almost done as well. It was a wonderful experience. I learned so much. Now I am looking at every color and light and shadow around me with completely different set of eyes. Thank you so much!
I was about to refer your other videos to draw my black cats, and here you go, you posted new video about drawing black cat. What a timing! I enjoy your videos very much. They have encouraged me to draw more and more detail. Thank you so much.
That was nothing short of amazing to watch! (So closely resembles my Benny!) I would LOVE to see you do a chocolate lab. I don't think I'll ever come close to a level where I could draw, let alone paint my gorgeous chocolate boy, but man don't I wish!! Thank you for sharing this video. I'm off to do some binge watching of your channel!
Barbara, I used Raphael Kaerell Synthetic Sable brushes #1 and #3. They are affordable and hold a nice point. Have you seen the tutorial in my online school? rebeccarhodes.teachable.com l Kaërell Synthetic Sable Brush #1 and #3 Affordable, holds a point, and creates nice hair markings on Cold Press paper
Did you free hand draw this cat ? or trace it .? I can draw just about anything , the problem I have is proportion so I have opted to tracing key points to get eyes and nose etc in the right place so it looks right ( I've always had this problem and it drives me bloody nuts LOL )
You are right - proportion is crucial in portraits such as this, especially in the eyes and nose. I find it helpful to use a mix of tracing, grid, and freehand to fine tune.
@@RebeccaRhodesWatercolorArtist True , except for the grid , i've never been able to get my head around that....LOL as long as I get the placement of eyes and nose I'm right . Although i've just recently started painting again after a few yrs off , but im waiting on a hip replacement atm so the less walking the better , so I figured , might as well paint as I have hundreds of dollars worth of paints and " stuff " ( as you do LOL )
I use a hinged plastic palette from Dick Blick: www.dickblick.com/items/03095-4018/?AID=12117697&PID=8526200&Ref=CJ&source=affiliate&CID=5036713&Publisher=Rebecca+Rhodes+Art&Blick_affiliate=5036713&cjevent=6a2c4404b6c111e983fb01da0a240610

Rebecca, what size brushes do you use for this painting? I have very few small brushes, so I need to invest in some. Thank you so much for this video!

Yes, the eyes and nose are key! Enjoy your painting time!
Amazing, how you did the whiskers? D: !
Thanks David - I used Titanium White
thank you SO MUCH !
Rebecca, don’t you stretch the paper?
Yes, I stretch the paper for 5 to 10 minutes
I do too, but i put it on a gator board and this that you use seems so much thinner and better to handle
How do you determine the color of an underpainting?
Julia, I find the lightest color that I can see in the reference photo. In this cat it was a pale grey.
Whats the palette used

I meant the colors you chose :)
Hanna, the colors used are in the comments.
I was interested in the full courses but good gawd they are pricey, way out of my budget. Ah well.
