Hard to believe this was 42 years ago and they were talking about 20 years together back then. They were all in their 30’s. I love the end portion where they’re doing Goin’ On which is a great 80’s song
Ìf I had to name a favorite Beach Boy it would be Carl Wilson. He was both a great singer AND guitarist. He was a talented musician all around. By the way Carl RIP! ❤😂🎉😅
true. he seemed to be mentally there and (propably) without any kind of meds at that point in time. one of the last looks we got of the not completely medicated Brian.
Now the beachboys were a great bad , but could have been more bigger. Like for example they weren't as big as the beatles or the Rolling stones. Now Mike love plays plays a part in beachboys, but he ruined the beachboys, because he was supportive to Brian Wilson and told to stick the formular.
I was thinking about something while watching this… pop culture used to change SO MUCH in a matter of 2 years. These days, when I think about 20 years ago, it’s not much different. Particularly with music. The difference between 1965 and 1970 is MASSIVE compared to the last 25 years. There’s also far less of a generation gap. Me and my adult kids basically listen to the same music. That was DEFINITELY not the case with me and my parents.
Alan was on the football team! What was he, a buck 25 dripping wet? But, he is now the backbone of The Brian Wilson Band! His son Matt, just a wee bit bigger than Dad. Matt has the vocal range, to make Carl's stuff sound OK. But, NO ONE can equal what Carl Dean did. Lucky angels have the voice of Carl Dean Wilson! steve
I really wish that The Beach Boys story could be told without having to see Mike Love (the worst lasting name for this egotistical person). Although I’ve been a fan of their music, I didn’t know much about their story until the internet made it possible to research anything. I was born in 1965. By the time I started listening to the bands, singers, etc. almost every band, etc had already passed their peak and were now considered “classic rock” musicians. 📌 The music I grew up hearing was “oldies”. This is due to my sisters choice of music they played on the stereo and the radio stations in the car. My sisters were 17 and 15 years older than me. Without getting into details, they were the ones pretty much raising me. When it became possible to get info about the groups/bands/singers, my first research was about The Beach Boys. 📌 This was during the Brian & the crazy Dr. So I wanted more information. I must have read over 20 different articles about their “Story” in one day. Also every article was the same, including the cousin who had a definite sell importance to the group. The more I read - through the years - and unfortunately listening to the cousin in interviews - the more I disliked him. But the best part was discovering how much he loves money over family. I wasn’t too surprised when he sued Brian. I believe that the cousin is so jealous that Brian because Brian has talent!!! The cousin can only sing. Watch some of their performances and every member is playing an instrument, except the cousin. If he’s not singing lead, he just stands there looking like an idiot. So no I’m not a fan of the money grabber. You just don’t sue family. AND THE WORST PART…the cousin know that Brian has a mental illness issue. That fact alone is a disgusting move to a family member.
You know about the interview from around this time that appears briefly in the A&E biography? Where he plays that 1 riff on his upright over and over and chainsmokes in his lounger looking miserable? I assume it's around the same time since he has practically the same fit on.
Everybody always wonders what it would have been like if The Beatles never broke up. What magic did we miss during the seventies and eighties? The truth is probably contained in some of these clips of other sixties groups that didn’t break up. Somewhat aimless, very unhip. Endearing.
They'd have to wait a few more years before Kokomo came out for their 1980s top seller. Too bad Dennis didn't live to experience it and Brian wasn't a part of it.
While I'm not truly sure when this was broadcast the common date I've seen stated is '81... obviously not necessarily true but Carl was still with them from Jan-Feb '81 and it could have obviously been recorded earlier and broadcast later! I don't know concretely so just sticking with what I've seen around ^_^
As I watch this video, I get a little sad, knowing that Carl and Dennis are both gone. There would never have been a Beach Boys if not for the genius mind of Brian Wilson‼️ Now I can’t write about The Beach Boys without mentioning the absolute anger and dislike I have for Mike Love (his last name - ironic considering what a money hungry greedy SOB that he is). He’s tried so hard to get the same credit as Brian for some of the songs, so he can get more money. Even suing Brian over it (Brian settled because he didn’t want to deal with that 💩). Even though M.L. would sometimes suggest 1 word to add to a song that Brian had written, he wanted credit. But he didn’t have a problem when it was actually released. No he waited over 30 years to sue. 📌 I heard about the lawsuit and the 1 word thing (not just one song) when M.L. was being interviewed about the lawsuit. I can’t stand his face, knowing that he put money over family - that’s bad enough. But the fact that he didn’t have a problem with not getting credit until over 30 years later??? He’s a greedy and jealous SOB. He wants the respect that Brian gets. But there’s not that many stupid people. He’ll NEVER be on the same level as Brian Wilson and he knows it.
Good Vibrations is a KILLER song! But, probably my least favourite. Only, because whenever someone wants a "Beach Boys" song, this is what they play. I can think of a HUNDRED songs to play. God Only Knows, too easy. Sloop John B, close. Shut Down, better. The Girls On The Beach, better.
" Goin' On " was a great song in 1980 and it's still a great song today !!!
Elora droppin’ Beach Boy gems like a boss. Cheers from the States

Brian seemed cheerful and clear minded during the interview even though he did not look so well.
true. he seemed to be mentally there and (propably) without any kind of meds at that point in time. one of the last looks we got of the not completely medicated Brian.
....'and the whole thing together is...'there's aaa, story told...'. BAM!!! That's the blend right there!
Love the beach boys so much! Good to seem all alive and young here still
Wonderful.
And of course, Al can't remember his part to Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring, ha ha ha ha!
Oh to be at one of those concerts. 😢
Best days of my life. 1973 my first show 50 years ago and 500 Beach Boy gigs later.
RIGHT. I was born late 90’s. So sad seeing this, knowing I’ll never get to experience it 😔
My mom saw them in the 70s and she said it was one of the best concerts she's ever seen!!! I am jealous lol
Now the beachboys were a great bad , but could have been more bigger. Like for example they weren't as big as the beatles or the Rolling stones. Now Mike love plays plays a part in beachboys, but he ruined the beachboys, because he was supportive to Brian Wilson and told to stick the formular.
My first Beach Boys concert was 1978 - I was 10 years old

It's a little weird how the camera pans in on a high school's ass and it was totally accepted. Times have changed.
What a video! Nice little clip of “Goin On” around the 12 min mark. Thank you for uploading Elora 😊

Hell yeah!
God, seeing Mike Love naked in a hotub will give me permanent nightmares.
LOL
You were warned in the descriptor. "Viewer discretion is advised".😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
“They’ve outlasted every other rock band”
-The Rolling Stones… hold my beer!
As of that time The Beach Boys had been around just a little longer, a year or so before The Rolling Stones.
any footage from the news 1983 -1984 on tv with ringo starr
I think that might be Shawn Love with Dennis around 3:10

@@EloraBB thank you
If the oldest was 39 it must be 1980

it looks like the entire UNC show was pro shot with multiple cameras - I don't think 20-20 just shot little bits - I wonder if it still exists?
Elora, do you have a link to the Brother Re-Issues Proposed Bonus Tracks? I lost the file and am having trouble finding it.
Brian was about 38 here he looks about 58
Teen idols? For Christ’s sake. I bet Mikey Love luvs that.
Brian👍
Good Vibrations is a KILLER song!
But, probably my least favourite.
Only, because whenever someone
wants a "Beach Boys" song, this is
what they play. I can think of a
HUNDRED songs to play. God Only
Knows, too easy. Sloop John B,
close. Shut Down, better. The Girls
On The Beach, better.
I feel the same way. Good Vibrations is a great song but there's 100 other beach boys songs I love even more
Love those shorts the girls were wearing back then
Love always with his crap satin jackets and bald cap
boy hasnt ca changed
Outlasted every other group?
That's patently untrue.
Just a little 1980’s “clickbait”. 😮
