    HELLO THERE:
    We are Joe and Liisu, relatively new to TH-cam but really excited to be a part of this community. We live small and sustainably in my home on wheels (a lovely van called Freyja) and from time to time out of our backpacks (we have not named the backpacks yet). On this channel, we ask you to join us on our travel adventures off the beaten track where we show you the beauty of untouched nature and wander into places most tourists don't dare to go.

      @@WildVikingTravelsHey Guys thanks for visiting Pakistan ❤
      You guys made some excellent Videos.
      Pakistan suffers from foreign espionage agencies that conduct terrorist activities to damage country's economy and in particular foreign investment that comes from those wages, the local police do not want to have kidnapped for ransom tourists etc thus the escorts.
      Furthermore being a poor country they cannot offer you to stay in some guarded hotels with police presence so ironically the most safest place are police station as no criminal or terrorist can easily infiltrate there.
      Again thank you for your patience 😊

      @@WildVikingTravelsAlso thank you for bearing with patience Liisu.
      If I may share with you, in the Eastern Context, it may seem counterintuitive to you, but there are Many dimensions working here, when the Police Escorts asked you to sit in the back, it's *NOT* because he thinks you are a lesser gender, It's because According to his Culture/Religion/The Way of Life, he cannot freely mix with females besides his Own, Wife, Daughter, Sisters, Mother, Aunties and grandmothers, grandaughters..
      So As an escort for security he has to be in the front seat but Cannot compromise his religion because he is Answerable to The ALMIGHTY CREATOR. Nothing to do with you personally.
      Try NOT to look at it from a Feminist Western nations perspective but As in How people are happily & harmonious living with their traditions in the east..
      #NoRightOrWrong
      Remember that _Different_ is NOT bad, even if it may seem strange or Jarring to us at first, because there is Always *wisdom* and *reasons* behind it..😊
      Again thank you for your continued patience and understanding 💓🙏🏽🙏🏼🙏🏾🙏🏻

    Would it have been more difficult to go through the Afghanistan border and enter Pakistan from a different area? I haven't seen these borders being crossed before, just travellers visiting the countries separately.

In their local and religious customs, men don't sit right next to or make any physical contact with woman who is not related.. I'm sure understand that by now. A lot of young guys don't really care as you can see young policemen were actually enjoying ride with you😄

      Considering that we have no seats or seatbelts in the back, even if it was for his religion, he should not have recommended to put Liisu's life in danger for his religion. But yeah, we realised that by now that he did not want Liisu in the front as much as Liisu did not want to sit next to him after requesting to make her drive without a seatbelt on these roads.

  • @omg_SallyKelly

    Way over dramatized!!! I did the same trip in my van from Europe last year. The police escort is simply there to protect foreigners in the tribal areas of Balochistan. Yes there is real danger there, not necessarily towards foreigners, but from a Taliban faction towards Pakistanis themselves. Did you know that on January 30th over 100 police were killed in an attack in Peshawar not far from the Afghan border? Stay safe, but don't break the laws and customs of places you visit. Did you know that older man refusing to sit with your gf is actually a sign of respect as he did not want to be near or be in touch with her in any way. They would want their adult females to also be sitting away from you or another strange man. It is a form of respect for their girls and women. Not everything is an issue of inequality as you make it out to be. Please learn!

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! The Police is there to protect us in Balochistan but sadly by the time we escaped them, we were hundreds of kilometers out of Balochistan and nowhere near Afghanistan. Everybody has a different experience on this route and this is how we felt. Not necessarily applicable to everybody. If that is the case with the old man, I think it was very impolite of him to want to endanger Liisu's life like this out of respect since we have no seats or seatbelts in the back. 🤷

    You do not understand, there was no imprisonment or detention the Police Escort is Special Resource provided by poor Pakistani taxpayers to ensure your safety and deter any brigands from looting your valuable personal effects. Also, the police officer that requested for you to sit in the back was not stating that you are inferior, rather he was respecting you as a woman and did not want to make you feel uncomfortable sitting alongside a strange man. You go to foreign countries and criticise the people for not speaking in the language of the Western Colonial Bullies. Can you blame them after those self-same Colonial Masters. I know pakistans official language is English but urdu is more common so i would advice u to learn some words or a lil bit of urdu before travelling anywhere in pakistan because english is mainly in cities but these villages very few English speakers.

      I don't know where he wanted Liisu to go then as we don't have any seats or seatbelts in the back. Should she have put her life in danger because the policeman got nervous?

  • @asadamanofficial857
    @asadamanofficial857 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should respect our culture and religion asking your lady to sit behind the reason is that in islam a man can not sit with a women if she is not their daughter,wife etc.He was giving you respect,Dont you understand that?

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Our van sadly has no seats nor seatbelts in the back of the car. I don't think it is right to ask somebody to risk their life out of respect and for your religion. I hope the man who has a job where he has to sit next to stranger women due to the nature of his tasks finds a solution with his senior so that he does not have to break his religion as these vans very often have only 3 seats and they are all next to each other, there is no other place to be seated safely. I hope you understand as well.

    The only reason he asked to sit behind because of religious reasons. According to Islam one is not permitted to sit with woman other than his family. so its not disrespect but rather more respect.

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I might not understand his full reasoning but asking somebody to sit behind the van without seatbelts nor seats, setting the girl's life in danger out of religion and respect is not a great thing. There are no more seats in this van than the 3 in the front. Maybe, if this is a problem for him, he should talk to his supervisor to not put him in situations that go against his beliefs.

      Sadly customs and laws as we know it don't apply in that part of the world. (especially places like Balochistan which is governed by the force with the biggest amount of guns)
      if you try to live by western standards in the eastern world you would be eaten alive.

    Very interesting storytelling but scary experience for you. Although I don't know exactly why they accompanied you even after the border of Baluchistan, but I think it was due to some sort of misunderstanding because lack of clear communication was a factor along with your lack of understanding of what they want. Since I am basically from Pakistan so I think I understand their intentions. You didn't know that paying small amounts of money to any official is customary to get your job done. They were probably expecting some cash from rare foreign visitors and that is why they didn't stop accompanying you even at Baluchistan border. You did the right thing by just driving away. If you knew their intentions, you could hand them few hundred rupees at Baluchistan border, say " thanks for your help" and drive away.
    However I feel bad for all that episode with you and hope rest of your journey was good enough

    • @WildVikingTravels
      @WildVikingTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We try to stay away from knowingly Breaking the law, especially bribing police officers. It might be possible that this was expected but it would be a bad habit to install in the area that every foreign tourist has to bribe the Police in order to see the country. Now fortunately it is just a good story to tell!

      The Balochistan part, yes escort was justifies and was an adventure but everybody's experience was different traveling through there. Some people had to take taxis in situations like we were who were traveling without a car because they were simply left in the middle of nowhere with no way forward. Some people had a stress-free journey. And I guess not all travel-blogs feature all of the possible stories but thank you for your opinion.

But in the end we were so frustrated with not even having a second to ourselves for 7 days straight, we decided this 20km was worth the risk of kidnapping or other dangers. Sometimes the risk is worth taking but it of course depends on who is taking it. We accepted the danger.
