Oh, thank you! It still boggles my mind that something could be said about me...I still fancy myself an obscure booktuber who mainly lurks (because I definitely still feel & behave like one lol).
Your channel is the best, in my opinion. I don't read all the same books but the mood of your vocabulary and logical detail in your opinions. Truly amazing book channel
This booktuber tag is really interesting to me, since I now realize how different the booktubers I watch really are. I enjoy your content because it is clear and to the point, and I love nonfiction so I come here for inspiration. My other favorite booktuber is BooksandLala, who is almost the opposite of you in many ways. I don't match her reading preferences at all but her content is really unique and entertaining. I love that this community has so many different things to offer!
Are you saying I'm not entertaining?! Just teasing :) I totally agree, I think what makes this community so amazing is that each of us bring something entirely different to the table with our reading preferences and styles. I like to think Booktube will continue to thrive because of this variety!
@@abookolive My phrasing there might not have been ideal, but your channel isn't a favorite just because I relate to your reading preferences :D I hope this tag gets around, there are many booktubers that I would love to see answer these questions!
Hi! I’m a new subscriber and just had to tell you that I’m so glad to have found your channel. We have pretty different taste in books but I love that I’m not hearing about the same books again on your channel. I really like thoughtful way you critique what you’ve read and as you mentioned the polished and professional style of your videos. I love that you prioritize freely sharing your opinion over currying favor with publishers. :)
Thank you for making your channel a half part of you :) the honesty of your reviews/videos it’s what has kept me watching your videos ever since I subscribed!
I could never imagine doing this channel and not being my authentic self! I know that means I won't please everyone, but I'm glad viewers like yourself appreciate it. Thanks for sticking around
Thank you for making these videos! I usually watch YA booktubers, and I'm so glad I discovered your channel! You express yourself so well and your videos have been really helpful for me, as I'm trying to read a little more diversely :)
I'm happy you did, too! I do read YA on occasion, but you'll certainly be exposed to some new types of books over here since I read a bit of everything!
I only get caught up in drama in so far as I like following drama... So this extremely niche Russian historian drama is right up my alley... Thanks for bringing it to my attention!!
Great video, Olive. It was an interesting point that you made about the way that you acquire books. I am considering at the moment reducing or stopping requesting review copies of books and sourcing them from the library or local bookshop as well as reading the enormous piles of books that I have at home(!!!). There are two reasons behind this, to remove the pressure of reading to a deadline and also to reduce the obligation that we all feel to be generous rather than honest. Maybe become a reader who blogs.
Loved this video! I have the same attitude re. reviewing books received for free (in my case from NetGalley). A steaming pile of dung doesn't smell any sweeter just because I didn't pay for it (not even if it was "produced" by a well-known author...). Hang on, someone actually thought "You look like a reader" is an insult? That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard! "I'll take the lead, cause I'm the man!" Oh Olivia, you rock
I loved your opinion on the worst book videos. I honestly never considered it too much; just always accepted it as part of booktube. But your thoughts definitely give me something to consider.
Yeah I read that and was like...I sure as hell hope I look like a reader or else viewers would be very confused. I bet that dude is one of those special individuals bragging about how his time is better spent at the gym than the library.
I had no idea about Orlando Figes! That changes A LOT of things for me! Do you recommend any historian in his place? Especially dealing with cultural and personal impact. Queen Olivia from the House of Mic Drop. ❤ You should be proud of your content. It's great! Have a lovely week, Olive!
Honestly, you're one of the most down to earth, mature, fair minded, non-drama creating people I've seen on Book Tube. I can't fathom why anyone would want to send you ugly comments. Sheesh. Imagine what a miserable person you have to be, if that's what you're doing with your life?
Oh my gosh, thank you so much. That's really nice of you to say. And yeah...the trolls confuse me. You have to be pretty low down to behave the way they do. But I don't tolerate it so they normally stick to the dislikes. 🤷♀️
I love your channel and am so glad I found you! You've turned me onto the natural sciences in a big way. I've not been able to stop telling people about The Soul of An Octopus, and frankly, I'm excited about birds now, too, lol. I do have a question for you with regards to the Russian history/culture vs lit stuff and this is purely as a matter of interest - is there any reason why you haven't delved into the Russian lit as much as the history/politics/culture? The two are so intertwined; I think once you get started, you'll really enjoy it. Again, thanks for being a fantastic presence on youtube/booktube. My best to you!
Yes! Happy to help introduce you to some great nonfiction. 😊 But I actually have delved into Russian literature here and there...I just don't like it very much. I'm trying some more modern works as of late to see if anything clicks, but the style isn't what I like in fiction. That may change at some point, but I really don't want to keep forcing myself to try to read the Russian classics if I'm not enjoying them. There are too many other books out there! I know a ton about the authors based on my readings in Russian history and I can recite some Pushkin from memory...that'll have to do for now 😂
Orlando Figes sounds like a right old you-know-what. I've had problems in the past of authors sending me their books for an honest review, not liking my thoughts on it and then retaliating by leaving one-star reviews on my books as retaliation. People suck!
Oh, I love your comeback for the "man" comment! "I am the man." LOL So clever and witty! Your channel is polished, one of the best! And as I am sure you already know - you DO NOT look like a man!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I loved your responses! If I might make a recommendation, I recently started reading a book that I thought you may be interested in called The Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly. It's a historical fiction that takes place towards the end of the fall of the Romanov Dynasty told in multiple perspectives including Sofya Streshnayva, a cousin of the Romanovs, (not sure if she's based off a real person or not) Varinka ,young Russian woman peasant, and Eliza Ferriday, American woman who is close to Sofya who helps out many Russian refugees and their stories of dealing with the aftermath.
"You look like a reader"? That is the weirdest insult attempt ever... Sorry you have to deal with trolls but I really appreciate that you don't take their crap and know how to handle them. 😊 And olivethebooks would be agreat channel name! But I also like that you are abookolive. 😉
A very strange insult attempt indeed! The weirdest one I've ever recieved was when this girl meant to call me "sweetheart" after calling me fat but she typed "sweetfart" instead and I've been laughing about it ever since. 😂
You can read a controversial book obtained from the library thereby being able to review the book without financial support of the author. Just an idea.
Seriously, though! You would think that in a community of historians that small he would show support especially because one of the books he slammed in his review wasn't even in the same arena as his work! Ugh, this guy.
I loved seeing you do this tag! You always have such a great, calm and fair way of looking at everything. You're the man!
Thank you! I try to look at things that way...it works some of the time lol
“My opinions are not for sale” yes!! That’s why you’re one of my favorite booktubers :)
Oh, thank you! It still boggles my mind that something could be said about me...I still fancy myself an obscure booktuber who mainly lurks (because I definitely still feel & behave like one lol).
'I'll lead because I'm the man' 😂 honestly that's the best thing I've heard, and it's my new comeback to everything ❤
Your channel is so polished! I’m glad you are proud of it! I love your in-depth analysis of everything you read.
me repeating your mustard man comment to my husband, cause i cannot stop laughing about that. haha
This tag summarizes (almost) everything I love about you, your content and your channel. You are killing it, Olive!
Thank you so much 😭❤
Your channel is the best, in my opinion. I don't read all the same books but the mood of your vocabulary and logical detail in your opinions. Truly amazing book channel
Thank you so much!
I love watching your videos! You are so well spoken and your content is so substantive.

"I'm the man" jokes--yeah! Such a great tag video, Olive! 😍

You're so awesome! I thoroughly enjoy hearing your opinions and thinking about how they may or may not relate to my own :)

Obviously I love everything about your channel. Bring on the nerdiness!
I laughed so hard to your response to “mustard man”, I just love your channel and your personality and of course your honesty.🥰
❤
I loved your opinion on the worst book videos. I honestly never considered it too much; just always accepted it as part of booktube. But your thoughts definitely give me something to consider.
You ARE the (wo)man.... 💜
Hear me roar!
I love this video and I love your channel, you were the first nonfiction channel I found and immediately feel in love
I had to pause this video after your response to Mustard Man to let out a very audible, "DAAAAAAMN." I am in awe. 😂
😂
“I’ll lead, because I’m the man.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm still a better man than that dude is 👔
Truly.
I’m so glad you did this tag! And i love that lipstick color on you!
Thank you! I'm always hesitant about the pink 😬
Great talk! we don't read a lot of the same genre but the viewpoints are similar. Thanks!
What an interesting tag, I think more people should do this one.
Unapologetic nerds rule !!!!😎
Very balanced especially the answer to supporting authors you don't agree with. On a side note, your highlighter is gorgeous.
Thanks! It's actually a blush that doubles as a highlighter. I'm obsessed with it!
Your hair and makeup are on point "today". :) Love your realness.
I've been told I look like a reader and always took it as a compliment lol.
Yeah I read that and was like...I sure as hell hope I look like a reader or else viewers would be very confused. I bet that dude is one of those special individuals bragging about how his time is better spent at the gym than the library.
You da Man Olive!
Great job with this tag

Hello first time viewer first time commenter what blush/highlight are you using because it’s amazing!!
Hi! :) It's a blush that doubles as a highlighter: www.wetnwildbeauty.com/summer-color-icon-baked-blush.html
SPILL that Russian tea!!! LOL Good example.

You’re lovely
Start your Russian literature Odyssey with The Master and Margarita Burgin/O'Connor translation.
You can read a controversial book obtained from the library thereby being able to review the book without financial support of the author. Just an idea.
Ehh? You sound lik a reader too! You are very intelligent!
I love books that include, the Russian culture.
Oh wow that Russian historian!! That’s so sad that instead of promoting the genre that he’d attack his competitors 😬
Seriously, though! You would think that in a community of historians that small he would show support especially because one of the books he slammed in his review wasn't even in the same arena as his work! Ugh, this guy.
You know that Christ always does right and that everyone who does right is a child of God. 1 John 2:29
I have zero idea what this has to do with my video.
