I’m a part -time promoters I watched most of your content, you are honesty about how promoting cost and many artist and their managers are naive about, what people don’t realise promoting cost a fortune then you got managers who are arrogant and rude.
if a promoter contacts a local artist/independent artis he/she should pay them..but if the artist contacts the promoter then the promoter should use their discreation..
My producers and band are all OG's and they are always saying that back in the 70's and 80's the artist always got paid. ppl respected musicians and artist and were willing to pay to be entertained. todays it's so sad!
It's not " off " cause he doesn't mention room service , breaking up the room and etc etc unforeseen costs like people ripping you off at the door or parking and his job is not to promote the artist , its to make money and if the artist can't make you money , it defeats the purpose of being a promoter ... that's the real world .
Promoting shows is a headache.... Too much hoping and wishing to make your money back. Artist come out better throwing small house party shows and charge $15 and get 50-100 people each show...
how is he hustling ppl if u an artist and u aint got nothing bring finically to the table and u aint even tring to at east sell tickets so u can make money for both u and the promoter why should he pay an artist who aint got nothing to bring to the table …
So, he is judgmental and attempting to offend people for justification. This is the type of person you stay away from in the music industry. Especially if he can't add. Unless you are shady and can't add yourself, this is your type of creature.
TheWinterShadow This is business, not personal. Words like “judgmental” and “offend people for justification” sound real personal and have nothing to do with the bottom line. Confusing one with the other is how you fail
So everyone is local to somewhere. Do I have to move house every three months? Maybe just tour foreign countries? I guess if I ever went to America I would never be local as I am British.
Wow.... Everybody Making BIG Money Except The DJ????? Thats Crazy!!!! He Said Give The DJ About $250 Or $300.....The DJ Is The Party... Why Cant He Get Paid...lol
Well, this has aged rather poorly. It's true that tons of local artists suck at selling tickets... but guess what Mr. Martin, the virus situation we're in means you ain't making any money from live shows now either! You're allowed to not pay whoever you want, but the fact that you work with so many "worthless" artists says more about *you* than it does about savvy business etiquette.
Hi. I'm the owner of the The Wood Bar & Grill. I'm also the guy in the video. This interview aged well and I have gotten better. I was 31 at the time of this interview. I'm 36 with my own venue and several streams of income.
Cool dude, then we don't play at your venue. Good luck finding a fool who will still fall for the "exposure trap". Besides this practice being very unethical, because you're effectively exploiting a worker like a slave, expect musical effort and assume not having to pay: any musician, even the local artists make a lot of money for a venue. They may not sell too many tickets, but they are the ones who make people stick around and grab another drink. Imagine no music playing at the venue at all, everyone would be off the club next door asap.
Wrong....la couldn't do nothing with her same as snoop couldn't do nothing with bow wow....so they were given to people that could elevate there careers. They're the same artists as before...just in better situations and better markets that suits there talent.

And when it’s genuine magic happens my friend !
Worst kind of promoters are the ones that hit you up and don't pay you to come out to them and play a show. Especially if you get a good draw.
Thanks for sharing your experience/knowledge!
My producers and band are all OG's and they are always saying that back in the 70's and 80's the artist always got paid. ppl respected musicians and artist and were willing to pay to be entertained. todays it's so sad!
NivaTheSoulDiva cause they were able to put them in front of existing audiences

You'll have to pay me several thousand dollars, and fly me over from Ireland, but trust me I'm worth it!

$1,000 to street team? Are you paying the street team members? I’ve been doing street team for 3 years and I’d be lucky to get $100 but $1K? Wow
How about both you and the local artist sells tickets
So everyone is local to somewhere. Do I have to move house every three months? Maybe just tour foreign countries?
I guess if I ever went to America I would never be local as I am British.
Battery Exhausted I don’t believe you listened to the video based on your comment. He broke down what a local artist was early in the video.

So basically it's like realtors expect your income to be 3times the mortgage to ensure they get their money...
WASNT SHIT BUT THE TRUTH
I’m a young promoter
Everytime I hear promoters talk numbers it's always off. Bullshitiing
Fine by me, just don’t make local bands pay for the bigger artist you hire to get the draw through ticket sales. That model is so fucked.
What female was he talking about? I didn't catch that.
eric hughes pink

You only look at the numbers, you’re just a businessman. You don’t pay because *they* won’t bring the crowd in? What’s your job again!

You only paying $500. Why would you charge $20?
Because as he mentioned he needs to make enough profit to pay the artist as well as pay everything else off PLUS make profit
Amen
