Toyota Sienna is absolutely the best minivan regardless of what other brands advertise their minivans. Toyota quality, huge dealers network, parts logistics, Toyota durability and simplicity making Sienna runs flawlessly for a very long time. My 2005 Sienna is just a few hundred miles short to to 300K miles and it’s still running flawlessly without having to rebuild anything. Even the frequently replacement items like AC, power windows, power steering, shock absorbers, struts, fuel pump, paint are still original and the powerful AC is iced cold during summer road trips across southern part of the country with outside temperatures up to 120 Fahrenheit. The Sienna can easily drive past 450 miles between refills during long trips. The ride is very compliant and without annoying choppy motions in sedans making the Sienna ideal for long road trips. We have Highlander, Pilot, Villager, Mazda MPV but Sienna is the best.
Now with the hybrid, it will last forever. I have a prius v and always hope for a larger one that can haul more than 5. Finally toyota made one. I was deciding Pacifica hybrid vs this now
Agreed. I have a 2004 Sienna that my family purchased new back in 2004, it has around 290k miles now and it still drives like new. We had to replace the front left wheel bearing last year, but other than that it hasn’t needed any major repairs. My family took many road trips with it, now it’s just used by my father for his cleaning business. Years ago we also had a 2001 Sienna with over 300k miles, we sold it to a friend but it’s still running great. My father also had a ‘96 Previa almost 20 years ago.
@@alh06 my 1996 American brand minivan’s transmission broke twice at 80K and again at 170K plus tons of annoying issues so I got rid of it and got the Sienna. My friend’s Dodge Caravan engine broke at 96k miles.
Thanks for the review. Like the exterior styling of the 2021 but 2020 wins the interior styling by a mile. At the end of the day, we ride inside the van not outside, so 2020 is the winner. Not being able to remove the second row seats in the 2021 is a dealbreaker by itself.
My sienna XLE 2017 is a marvel with a powerful engine, quite economical, its interior is very comfortable and practical, some improvements are needed such as the box for the mobile and more usb connections back, I am afraid that 2021 is the beginning of the decline of the magnificent minivan that we have had for several years
Less horsepower, bridge console makes putting things in first row difficult, unremovable 2nd row seats, smaller 3rd row windows. As a Sienna 2020 XLE owner, I will never consider Sienna 2021.

Just watched another reviewer get 24mpg in '21 Sienna on mostly highway driving. I get that around town in my '18. Road trip to Disney from Texas I got 29mpg and it was fully loaded. Another note - rear cargo room was reduced by a huge margin, especially behind the third row where most of us will use a van for, 33cubic feet now vs 3rd Gen 39 cuft.
IKR. There is literally like no knee room with that stupid counsol. Plus now you can’t Acess both door in front! It’s a minivan and not a sports car!!! Why does everything have to be sporty nowdays?
We were so excited for the new sienna hybrid and have waited a long time for a new van. We compared the 2020 with the 2021, side by side, and test drove both. Went with the 2020. The loss of power, cargo space, along with the addition of the bridge and non removable seats ended up being deal breakers.
@@altheadonovan2353 The 2021 hybrid does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, the 2020 does it in 6.9 seconds. You should still be able to manage to merge onto the high way just fine
Sienna 2020 has more advantages than 2021. The dashboard controls system is more intuitive. The front seaters have up to 6 cups holders in total. The 2nd row seat can be removed. 2nd row seat’s floor cup holder is foldable. The 3rd row seat has dual cups holders and items holder boxers. The rear winshield wiper is hidden topdown. The engine is 3.6l V6 in 2020 means more horsepower. The hybrid 2.5l and its battery pack is not gonna last longer than 10years.
I drive a Ford Escape, I hade to take it in for service due to a recall. I was able to get a rental for the day. It was a 2020 Toyota Sienna. Drove and turned corners easy, real nice ride. I only have one child that is almost grown so I dont need a van, but I sure was considering it.
Vans are the bomb. People who “rEfUsE tO dRiVe oNe” have self esteem issues. Toyota was finally motivated to redesign the 3rd Gen after 9 years, and it’s a home run. Just in time too, as I think the Kia Carnival/Sedona redesign will turn lots of heads. It’s a good time to be a minivan fan.
Just got my 2022 Toyota Sienna If someone would offer me a brand new 2020 Toyota Sienna I would exchange it immediately The old Sienna's had much more storage space Much more trunk space Much more leg space Better views to the outside Much more convenient with heat and AC control And the list goes on and on
Excellent comparison and presentation; especially soliciting the voice of the customer. Pros of 2021 in order of priority: - Fuel efficiency - this is game changing - AWD (without sacrificing fuel efficiency!) - very nice feature for midwesterners. - Updated interior with 9” touchscreen (now on par with competition) - Hands-free power sliding doors and lift gate Cons of 2021 in order of priority: Major: - Second row seating is not removable. This is a deal breaker and really contradicts the practicality of owning a minivan. If there is one take-away that you can share with Toyota as VOC, please ask them to design this feature back in. Other minor cons: - Bridge deck reduces front row space - Removed rotational climate control knobs Since the second row seats aren’t removable in the 2021, I would have to go with the 2020.
Both are excellent. I like better the 2021 for it’s technology and the hybrid engine, however I like better the 2020 for how it looks. I think rhe 2020 design is gorgeous… and here is a quick thought, I think the 2016 design was even more beautiful. To me the most beautiful outside is from 2016. Just my thoughts. Thank you!
I'm TOTALLY with you, Jesfam. The MPG of the new hybrid is just really incredible, but I like the look of the previous generation more. 2020 is OK, but the face on the 2011 to 2017 was definitely, to me, the prettiest face, and my preferred style. But even though I kinda don't like the looks of the new Hybrid, the rest of it is just to appealing to pass up. I'll be targeting an XLE FWD towards the end of this year or beginning of 23.
Yes, Toyota Sienna is still the best mini van. Some dislikes. The front seat bridge looks fancy but is far less practical for storage. The 2020 arrangement works just fine. The loss of ability to remove the second row seats is also a loss for storage. When I want to travel with our bicycles and equipment I really appreciate being able to take the seats out. When I want to purchase wood I need the space. When I do a dump run I need the space. When family ask for help with moving I need the space. One last change I don't like is the use of smaller knobs for the screen display and AC. For a driver with mobility or sensory limitations the larger controls help. Universal design for able-bodied and physically challenged drivers should always be considered when re-engineering a vehicle.
I agree with you, I really do. If it wasn't for the significant boost in MPG, I would definitely prefer the previous generation. But the MPG, and related technology of the new one would make me choose it.
The 2021 is a near perfect van to me. My only wish is that they would offer a panoramic roof. I think it would add a feel of luxury and openness. But im sure they didnt because of the added weight. Plan on buying XSE in coming months. Great review!!
The roughly 75% increase in fuel economy is blowing my mind. Cost of ownership and usage is a big factor for me that's why I have a 19 Camry. I can see a 22 or 23 Sienna in my future tho.
Just got the 2021. Amazing ride. Fantastic handling. QUIET! Quieter than our Tesla Model 3. Space. Dogs love it. Haven't gotten all the electronics figured out yet. Mileage is fantastic. 500 miles on a tank of gas. Adequate power, not lots of torque, but it does move when you need it to. The only problem is the nose sits higher in the air than all previous minivans. Like a truck. Can't see as much of what's in front of you. But all the sensors will tell you something's there. Maybe too many noisy sensors. A small price to pay for all the comfort and the amazing ride.
2021 is much better with its new tech engine, a lot of space, spare tire, new tech dash control, hand free entry...well design Toyota for longer travelling range. Very detail review.
I have a 2015 Sienna, LE version though, so I don't get to enjoy the XLE features (I'd love an automatic lift for the trunk!). - That said, I would have to chose the 2020 version. I may be biased since the 2015 version looks very similar to the 2020 version, but the 2nd row, removable seat (+storage area in the back) makes it a better option for flexible seating. The spare tire in that same area is pretty cool for the 2021 version and pretty convenient, but storing the extra seat is important when your seating needs change (if you store the seat outside of your car when not in use, you don't have the option to use it if you are away from home). Also, I really love the space between the driver and (front) passenger. Not sure I am in love with the "bridge." The space on the floor is perfect for my pocketbook., and super accessable which I like. I like the flip down cup holder in the center console (for the 2nd row to use) as well. I have hauled lumber in my sienna and flipping the cup holder down actually makes a difference. One last issue I have with the 2021 is the third row windows. They seem too small. I never sit in the 3rd row, so maybe it's not an issue, but I really like the amount of window the 3rd row has available is better. However, this is all inconsequential since my 2015 is running strong and I have no plans to trade this in for a new Toyota anytime soon. :)
Agreed. Make a Highlander vs Sienna vid asap. Top salesperson in the Midwest speaking. Only reason I know about Toyota specs is watching these videos. Toyota did away with books. Veteran GM guy talking here.....Toyota rocks. Cult following in some ways but good over all concept. Glad to sell them! Keep up the good work Jeff!
5:43, the earlier model has larger windows, letting more light in. I think the middle row seats are also more easily removable (yet don't have embedded airbags like the newer model). I despise the "bridge" console in the new model....but the instrument panel / dashboard and hybrid really make the decision a toss up. Great video, this is helpful for my buying decision, along with your other Sienna videos, THANKS!
Really great review! I love being able to see all the details. I just wish these car companies would remember most people put actual children in their minivans. Carpet and millions of small areas to get caked in food and dirt are just stupid.
I love how you can store the center seat in there so easy! It makes so much sense! Imagine you are out on the town with your 6 kids and they want to do a sleepover. An odyssey owner you say I don’t got room but a 2020 sienna owner would say omg we would love to have them! #bringitbacktoyota
According to Motor Trend the 2021 Sienna’s 0-60 time is 7.9 seconds vs the 2018 Sienna’s 7.1. So less than a second slower but significantly better fuel economy especially if you can get 44mpg like Edmunds did!
Don't like the center console - it would make me feel confined and it won't be easy to reach over to the passenger side where I often put things when I'm driving alone
Absolutely love the exterior and am definitely a Toyota Sienna person but I prefer the interior of the 2020 in terms of console. The size of the touch screen on the 2021 is fantastic.
I don't understand this statement. Why would they never buy a hybrid "because they drive not a lot" ? This makes no sense. The reason for hybrid is to offer strong capacity of power with an extremely low fuel consumption. With it generally comes lower consumption of normal consumables, like brakes, transmission, turbo failures and so on. Those are costs that will not exist or be extremely lowered. And this van is reported to have aroun the same acceleration time that his V6 concurrents. He will just be a little bit weaker on the tow.
@@boboutelama5748 Hybrid version costs about 2500 dollars more than non hybrid. If you drive only 5000 miles a year, it takes 15 years to recover that money. Hybrid battery will not last 15 years and the new one will cost you 6000 dollars at the dealership. That’s why people that don’t drive much never buy hybrids.
@@dds2899 Battery life for 100% capacity is limited, but at 15 years and sub 150k mileage, you still have 80% capacity, what is actually enough for the system to operate. You have users of Prius'es that do 500'000 miles on those things without ever touching the battery pack. It's actual mileage/use that will decide the life expectency of them, and they are very sturdy. But yes, the first generations of hybrids where a little bit sensible for long life use.
@@boboutelama5748 My neighbor had Camry hybrid 11 years old and 75 000 miles. When the battery died, he went to the dealership and they told him that’s normal for the hybrid battery to last 11-13 years regardless of mileage. I have see Prius with 320 000 miles but only 9 years old. Age will kill the battery before the mileage.
"there is nothing wrong with it" (2020) are the key words. I have a 2018. The only advantage to the 2021 is the hybrid thing, which I don't need as I don't drive that much. Not a fan of that busy 8-speed trany though.
This is a game changer, and great for not just minivan's but other cars. Seriously, putting hybrid for all trim levels really puts other car manufacturers on notice. I love Toyota, actually used to drive a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE limited and loved it. Love how roomy they are and so much storage, not to mention the technology in them. Now got to nit pick, I'm not a fan of the kicking your feet under the car. Think about holding a baby or groceries on a patch of ice, do you want to do the hokey pokey to open the door? Sounds silly. Second, why get rid of the option of removing the second row seats? Many people use their minivan besides moving their family around like contractors for example. Last, and this is not just for Toyota but all car manufacturers, bring back spare tires. Who wants to wait hours when you get a flat, especially in the middle of the night?
The non-removable "feature" of the 2nd row seats is due to the air bags built into them. I guess they don't trust their owners to reconnect electrical wires when reinstalling the seats. Solution, make them non-removable and greatly reduce the hauling capacity of their minivan. This is probably the biggest negative to the new model.
Do the hokey pokey!! ha :) You are right, I'd probably fall down! Also, I still have my 2004 XLE and I really love it so that's why I'm trying to consider the 2020 over the 2021. hmmmmmm.
I had a 2001 and then got the 2011 SE which I'm still driving. I am SO torn between the 20 & 21. I loved your review. You covered so many questions I had, about the differences between the two models. Thanks!
Liked the 2nd generation. Hated the 3rd generation. Thats when sienna started to decline behind the odyssey. LOVING this 4th generation look. It almost looks like an suv, just lower to the ground.
@@garysmith5741 im not talking about features. Im saying that when the 3rd generation sienna came out, it dropped from #1 popular to number 3 and odyssey became the #1 selling minvan. Not talking about features, talking about popularity. Understand someone's comment before making yourself sound stupid.
I need to be able to exit through the passenger door, -where I slip my boat there is a wall that blocks the drivers door. Nowadays there are so few vehicles where you can do that including this 4thgen. I also preferred my 2nd gen Sienna over my 3rd gen, it seemed to drive more comfortably and the rear door raised above my head height, I regularly bang my head on the third gen rear door😟. When I bought a better equipped 3rd gen I kept the 2nd gen for transporting the dogs. I found myself preferring to jump in the 2nd gen rather than the 3rd gen despite the smell left from wet dogs. My wife and kids prefer the 3rd gen.
I have hauled full size couches in my 18. It is crazy versatile. Love the refinement in the new but it loses a little too. Cannot remove second row, and loses some power which is nice to have when you load that thing down for a road/family trip.
We test-drove a 2021 last week. The road noise was horrible and the engine sounded loud also. We checked the highway using the same route with my 2012 Sienna and my 2012 was a “touch” quieter. Have to say that the noise level was very disappointing. We plan on trying another test drive of the 2021 on a different road to check the road noise level inside the car - hopefully, it was just the “finish” (or lack of!) on the highway!
For me I always noticed the last years of a generation is always the best they usually send it out with a good note. And the first years of the generation are almost always pledged with some type of problem and they know about it, but have to rush everything out to make sales.
What is the cargo length when the second row seats are all the way forward in the locked position? Can the climate control system run all night while in the ready mode like the Prius?
Watching this video in Nov. 2023. Awesome Awesome Video Sir, Love the humor and the attention to detail. You even got down on the wet pavement. TOTALLY AWESOME REVIEW!!! THANK U, BLESSINGS
The second row seats in the second generation Toyota was the best they have had. They should have had those seats or even better stow and go seats that also recline. The 2021 center console is ugly and makes things look cramped. The only upgrade should have been a dual frig/freezer and still have console storage with all the same cup holders as generation 3 models. Generation 2 and 3 models feel more roomy. Other awesome upgrade would be one, be able to stow away 3rd row seats on top of storage bins and the floor still be level throughout the vehicle. Two, have 110 outlets in front and 1 for each row. Three, hybrid with v6 if that's possible. Four, for it to be like the Prius so you can run air and heat when car is not running. Five, interior lights that can be on while it's not running with some kind of separate backup batteries that recharge while driving. Six AWD and raised chasse for more ground clearance. Six option of a high top roof. Seven, 2 moonroofs. Eight, option of 1 TV or TV's in back of front row headrest. Nine, Limo tint. Ten, pull up sunscreens and black out shades that cover the entire windows including the front windows. Eleven, built in screen for windshield and back window in hatch. For $50k I would also want the camera and the kick sensor opening door upgrades thar the 2021 have included. Still would want the 2 glove boxes and wouldn't mind having the storage hatch in door armrest like the generation 2 models had. I would still like to have the glasses storage units in front and wouldn't mind having 1 on each side of 2nd and 3rd row seats, up next to pull handles. These are easy things Toyota could provide here in the US. Look at there vans they sale in Japan. Also want the great Gas mileage of the 2021. Oh and have the option of 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation body styles. All of this would make it the best the US market has ever seen!!!
I rented a Sienna a few years back while on vacation, and loved it. The engine/transmission combo was perfect, as was the ride/chassis/suspension. Like you said at the beginning of the video, the previous generation was a perfect road trip vehicle, with it's smooth, soft, quiet ride. How does the ride compare with the new hybrid generation?
You lose the versatility of the cargo space as a tradeoff for fuel economy. Good luck towing with the new Sienna, putting 4x8 ft. sheeting from improvement stores or 12 ft. of lumbers inside, which is doable with the old model. Try to load a washer, dryer, and matching set of pedestals at once in the new one, or middle size tractor as I did in the Previa and my current 2008 Sienna Limited. It is no go with the new one.
Thank you Jeff for a great review video. We have a 2011 Sienna w 141k miles. It rides so smooth. My only complaint about this minivan is the tires wear. I've talked to many people and it seems like other people have similar issue with different makes and models. My research continues:). The legend Tony Stewart even complained about tires on NASCAR on national TV :) I really do like the power of the V6 engine (fastest engine I've ever owned. I had a 78 Ford Fairmont back in college it was given to me so I could commute to school I had a real bad oil leak engine seal) I do like the MPG of the 21 Sienna. Thanks for your work very helpful. Take care.
Sienna is a WELL-KNOWN tire eater. It's too heavy and you can never get any set of tire going beyond 30K. Some tires like Michellin use softer rubber to create the "quieter" riding experience, but it gonna cost your wallet since the tires also have short tread life. I notice Yokohoma tires tend to have decent tread life on the Siennas.
You need to run higher tire pressure. The reason is that the normal tire pressure at 34psi will cause the tire edge to wear faster due to the weight. I run mine at 45-50 psi so the wear is even for maximum mileage.
5:55 I notice how on the 2020 the door handles interrupt the body line, but on the 2021, they mounted the door handles higher and the body line continues below without being interrupted by the door handles.
My friend has a Highlander and I was disappointed how small the 3rd row was and when the 3rd row was up the trunk space was minimal. But most people probably don’t mind as the Highlander outsells the Sienna 3:1 lol
I like both. If there was one thing about the 21 I would zonk would be no gas engine option. I’m just not big on the hybrid to thing. The tan color gets too dirty. I would have to go with a darker exterior color like the dark gray with a black interior would be good. Good video as usual.
I got the 2020 Limited AWD earlier this year, got a great deal and I'm very happy with it. However, looking at the new design of 2021 and it being a hybrid, I'm wishing I would have waited a bit. Now, I'm hoping Toyota comes up with a PLUG-IN version in the next few years. A Sienna Prime baby!
If Toyota is struggling to make enough RAV4 Primes to meet demand I can’t see a Sienna Prime anytime soon. Logically they will move on to the Highlander Prime next as Toyota sells almost 3x more Highlanders than the Sienna.
I have a 2014 for over 6 years. Almost have 175000kms now. By the end of this year I will most likely get the 2020. The 2021 is nice but saving $20-30 thousand buys plenty of gas. Plus 296 HP and removable mid row.
I suspect the number of people that actually remove the 2nd row seats is small which is why Toyota didn’t include that feature. The Sienna has become a comfortable people hauler.
I am surprised that no one talks about this. Besides the bulky center console in 2021 I have an issue with non-removable middle seats. On gen3 Sienna these can be completely removed to allow for more cargo space.
I own a 2020 XLE with push button start and it has no remote start. Toyota will constantly nag you to install their app to connect to your car, and yet, the Sienna is the one exception that can't get connected to their app. So no remote start via key fob nor the app.
Where do you store the center seat from the 2nd row on the 2021 XLE if there's a spare tire in the same space that a 2020 has the cutout to securely store? Is it just sat down in the trunk space without any contraptions to hold it in place?
i preffer 3rd gen sienna. both 3rd & 4-th gen have a cons & pros. in my opitioon the front bridge removal on 4th gen was big mistake. also panoramic roof removal as well a big mistake. also not crazy about cvt as well. generally sienna better that odyssey. odyssey need awd and panoramic roof and timing chain unstead if timing belt and in that case odyssey would be same best may be even better than sienna. but currently sienna is much much better
Hi Jeff. Big thanks for video, just what we needed. Can you tell me if you had notice a difference in size, height od drivers seat, and maybe the 3rd row seats? I have a feeling that a new generation seats are a bit smaller and lower, maybe I am wrong. Greetings!
The "kick-start gear" is not to make the car fast, but rather to keep the crappy CVT trany from wearing out early. The DVT is just not strong. The 8-speed is strong, but a little nutty. I'd rather have the 8-speed as I am going to keep mine for a long time.
I've got some new Amazon Top picks! www.amazon.com/shop/toyotajeffinraleigh ... I hope you all have a great weekend and upcoming week! Jeff

I drive a Ford Escape, I hade to take it in for service due to a recall. I was able to get a rental for the day. It was a 2020 Toyota Sienna. Drove and turned corners easy, real nice ride. I only have one child that is almost grown so I dont need a van, but I sure was considering it.
Van are not made because u have kids, they are made for comfort. I don’t have any kid but I have a van and I love it.
It’s about your comfort and it’s a nice minivan for women due to space and comfort
I like both of them, they are both great minivans. the older versions looks more cute and soft, but the new one look more stubborn and harsh.
I have a 2009 Sienna with 230,000 Km so far I’ve only spent about $1500 on repairs. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned for reliability.
Just got my 2022 Toyota Sienna
If someone would offer me a brand new 2020 Toyota Sienna I would exchange it immediately
The old Sienna's had much more storage space
Much more trunk space
Much more leg space
Better views to the outside
Much more convenient with heat and AC control
And the list goes on and on
I think that Toyota should give a regular gas option for the 2021 model year
Exactly!!!
Excellent comparison and presentation; especially soliciting the voice of the customer.
Pros of 2021 in order of priority:
- Fuel efficiency - this is game changing
- AWD (without sacrificing fuel efficiency!) - very nice feature for midwesterners.
- Updated interior with 9” touchscreen (now on par with competition)
- Hands-free power sliding doors and lift gate
Cons of 2021 in order of priority:
Major:
- Second row seating is not removable. This is a deal breaker and really contradicts the practicality of owning a minivan. If there is one take-away that you can share with Toyota as VOC, please ask them to design this feature back in.
Other minor cons:
- Bridge deck reduces front row space
- Removed rotational climate control knobs
Since the second row seats aren’t removable in the 2021, I would have to go with the 2020.
@@kings17court it’s about a 6 month wait for Siennas, I would put a deposit in now if you want it by the end of the year.
Honestly, I prefer the 2020. Hands down, too.
I take the 2020 it have that nice clean look the rear viper hidden underneath the spoiler
I just traded my 2020 sienna xle to 2021 and only one thing that I regret is I fueled full tank when I went there

I love your enthusiasm and your bottomless dad jokes.
Lol sadly they never end
The Scotty impersonation killed me 😂😂
Rev up your Siennas LMAO
Jeff, do a Highlander vs Sienna (SUV vs Van) comparison!
You should probably make that video
They’re basically the same except Highlander resale value is absolutely insane. I tell people to get a new Highlander, or CPO Sienna.
If you have 3 kids or more don't even consider a Highlander. Your kids will thank you.

I really enjoy listening to this guy Jeff. He's relaxing!
I owned an older sienna and loved it, now I own a 2023 and it is just amazing what their milage does 😎👌.
I have enjoyed your videos for awhile now... You get extra love when you review vehicles I'm interested in... Well done and keep up the good work.
I love how you can store the center seat in there so easy! It makes so much sense! Imagine you are out on the town with your 6 kids and they want to do a sleepover. An odyssey owner you say I don’t got room but a 2020 sienna owner would say omg we would love to have them! #bringitbacktoyota
I like the V6 with the 296 hp and the hidden rear wiper. 3rd gen for me.
Will you be buying a Pacifica instead then?
Absolutely love the exterior and am definitely a Toyota Sienna person but I prefer the interior of the 2020 in terms of console. The size of the touch screen on the 2021 is fantastic.
Definitely dislike this feature 👎
2021 Sienna is great but people that drive only 5000 miles a year will never buy a hybrid car. Toyota should have more than one option for Sienna.
I dont know any parents wanting to haul their kids around only putting 5k a year on their minivan. But I do agree there should be a v6 option.
The sweet soccer mom minivan turned into an aggressive modern minivan, i like both
This is a game changer, and great for not just minivan's but other cars.
Thanks!
Aint the 2011 almost similar to the 2020, just a revised exterior/interior? I'd go for the 2021 since you seem to stick with cars long term.
Liked the 2nd generation. Hated the 3rd generation. Thats when sienna started to decline behind the odyssey. LOVING this 4th generation look. It almost looks like an suv, just lower to the ground.
Behind the odyssey??? The Sienna has always been light years ahead of the odyssey. Do some research before you comment.
@@garysmith5741 im not talking about features. Im saying that when the 3rd generation sienna came out, it dropped from #1 popular to number 3 and odyssey became the #1 selling minvan. Not talking about features, talking about popularity. Understand someone's comment before making yourself sound stupid.
I like model 2020 better but more gas mileage on 2021. You are the coolest review with details. Thank you for sharing
I love his energy in this video!!👏
Me too, he's fun to watch, even though I already have a 2021 toyota sienna
Am I the only one disappointed that the rear windshield wiper which was previously hidden under the rear spoiler did not carry over to the 2021?
Plus the rear vents and the rear cargo steps are also gone
@@xhytype what are the 'rear cargo steps'?
Well from watching this video I have made up my mind. The latest 2021 Sienna is that one I’ll buy.
Why didn't you tell people that on 2020 model the center seats come out. To get 150 cubic feet of space .
Not only that, on the 2021, the center seats don't come out according to another commenter. Hard to believe!
Omg I am so short and cant close the truck. This is needed.
Yeah, it’s the best minivan
I like the older gen for the inside. It looks more utilitarian.
I have hauled full size couches in my 18. It is crazy versatile. Love the refinement in the new but it loses a little too. Cannot remove second row, and loses some power which is nice to have when you load that thing down for a road/family trip.
That 21 looks like a swollen highlander
The Michael Scott of reviews 👌
The big question is what what year will last the longest?
They are all the same also depends on the owner. If they will properly follow up the maintenance when is due.
What trim did you test? I understand that Limited comes with active noise cancellation so that might help with the noise
It was an XLE, not a Limited - they only had that one, darn! Good thought, though!!
Your neighbors look out the window and see you dancing around your Sienna 🕺🕺💃💃😆
That's why toyota is the #1
Keep improvement on their vehicles.
Spare tire seems to be a risky option for passenger on third row seat.
The 2020 is so much better looking lol, such a shame.
For me I always noticed the last years of a generation is always the best they usually send it out with a good note. And the first years of the generation are almost always pledged with some type of problem and they know about it, but have to rush everything out to make sales.
Worried about the 2021 not having enough power when passing
What is the cargo length when the second row seats are all the way forward in the locked position? Can the climate control system run all night while in the ready mode like the Prius?
I love my 2020 Sienna LE AWD
I prefer the 2020 sienna over the new one

The all new Sienna looks better than the old one, but if we’re talking about the Odyssey, then that’s definitely the other way around
In order to keep up with the Sienna 34mpg, Chrysler announced 2024 Pacifica models will be fully electric and 2.0L diesel hybrid
I am gonna say it, the 2020 is the more practical and better van.
Which one is a better minivan, the 3rd Gen.
I am considering sienna, but the 2021 only v4, that is what i do not like. Is that big issue 2021 comparing 2020?
Cannot wait until the 4th gen Tundy comes out!! ❤️
I can't either!!! Soon :)
A hybrid w 6 cylinders? Ugh
Thank you for your amazing videos and detailed descriptions! I may have missed it but which one has more interior room for passengers on the inside?
@@NguyenGiaoUsA Thank you
I expect to get at least 70k miles on my 2015 Sienna AWD with Michelin Defender LTX m/s tires. I am 45k miles into them.
You need to run higher tire pressure. The reason is that the normal tire pressure at 34psi will cause the tire edge to wear faster due to the weight. I run mine at 45-50 psi so the wear is even for maximum mileage.
5:55 I notice how on the 2020 the door handles interrupt the body line, but on the 2021, they mounted the door handles higher and the body line continues below without being interrupted by the door handles.
why doesn't the back seed fold flat into a bed? Like in a van.
Just traded in our highlander for a 2021 sienna. Much better with our 3 kids.
My friend has a Highlander and I was disappointed how small the 3rd row was and when the 3rd row was up the trunk space was minimal. But most people probably don’t mind as the Highlander outsells the Sienna 3:1 lol
@@ikelee we looked at tahoes and expeditions also before getting the van. They all suffer from lack of room behind the 3rd row.
I like both. If there was one thing about the 21 I would zonk would be no gas engine option. I’m just not big on the hybrid to thing. The tan color gets too dirty. I would have to go with a darker exterior color like the dark gray with a black interior would be good. Good video as usual.
I think the 2021 Toyota sienna is the best.
I want to buy your 2020.. are u close by Texas?
I have a 2014 for over 6 years. Almost have 175000kms now. By the end of this year I will most likely get the 2020. The 2021 is nice but saving $20-30 thousand buys plenty of gas. Plus 296 HP and removable mid row.
Here in Ontario Canada where gas is about $6 a gallon there is no better choice then the '21
What's the deal with the second row seats? Moving the side seats to let someone climb into the back row is so difficult. Is the a trick to doing it?
I think the resale value of my 2020 just went up due to the 2021 non-removable seats!
I suspect the number of people that actually remove the 2nd row seats is small which is why Toyota didn’t include that feature. The Sienna has become a comfortable people hauler.
Is their any danger in sitting on top of massive batteries.
I am surprised that no one talks about this. Besides the bulky center console in 2021 I have an issue with non-removable middle seats. On gen3 Sienna these can be completely removed to allow for more cargo space.
I love the 2020 but I also think that the 2021 is WAY BETTER
Great review. Would you know if the 2020 Toyota Sienna XLE comes Standard with Remote Engine Start feature?
I own a 2020 XLE with push button start and it has no remote start. Toyota will constantly nag you to install their app to connect to your car, and yet, the Sienna is the one exception that can't get connected to their app. So no remote start via key fob nor the app.
I think my 2016 LE just went up in price.
Bought the 2021 and loved your video! Please keep making more - love your enthusiasm :)
That intro got me laughing out loud. Never change, Jeff.
2021 all the way. Amazing review as allways 😀
The windows seem smaller. The thirdrow windows seems small.
I prefer 2021 because it is cool that the spare tire is on the side trunk instead to get the spare tire on the bottom like the 2020.
Spare tire for 2021 is optional
Can’t wait to see a review of the limited or platinum
I love the 2021 sienna more then the 2020
Hi Jeff. Big thanks for video, just what we needed. Can you tell me if you had notice a difference in size, height od drivers seat, and maybe the 3rd row seats? I have a feeling that a new generation seats are a bit smaller and lower, maybe I am wrong. Greetings!
So the battery heat goes inside? Not good
The "kick-start gear" is not to make the car fast, but rather to keep the crappy CVT trany from wearing out early. The DVT is just not strong. The 8-speed is strong, but a little nutty. I'd rather have the 8-speed as I am going to keep mine for a long time.
Can you fit a 2x4 sheet in without removing any seats and close the door?
2021 sienna... 3rd row window can not open, except Limited option. also has not
sun shades.
