this movie is just a wholesome perfection. plotholes and all 😂 Maryl and Amanda's voices give me chills all over my body. Colin Firth is the cutest man alive. everybody in this movie is simply a star, you leave this movie happier than you were when you started it. it's unavoidable. you can just feel how this body of work was made by people with great love for music, art, humanity.

Everyone made fun of this movie in the years after it came out, but the number of connections that came from seeing it prove that dismissive attitude wrong. I still vividly remember seeing it as a teenager with my mom and two of her best friends and their daughters (and my cousin), and met tons of other friends in the theatre besides. It was our comfort movie through that whole next year (my final year of high school). Not only that, but singing the soundtrack in the car once I learned to drive helped me discover my own singing voice. Thank YOU for reminding me of its importance in my life.
Amazing cast! Yes, even Pierce Brosnan😅 just not at singing full belt (he's fine in the lower range). Everyone is funny, charming, and beautiful, the locations are gorgeous and you just can't help but sing along with ABBA. Amanda Seyfried singing Thank You For The Music over the credits had me crying on my first watch 😭 her voice is so lovely and she sings with such emotion.
idc I think Pierce Brosnan's voice is perfect for the role because it makes him feel so very "Dad"
This movie has a special place in my heart, saw the cabaret show with my mom and sister. Can't wait to see these reactions. 😊

My tennis buddy that I play tennis with loved this movie! One of her favorites! Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, etc all wonderful! I totally have to watch it. Kemi, what you said about your wishes for your sons is so sweet and genuine. I can tell you, as a son with a mother whom I love so much, every year that passes I become more and more aware of her full personhood and love her even more because of that (and you remind me a lot of my mother!). Without a doubt, your boys will come to that realization too and it will help them feel less alone in adulthood.

Omg! I love this movie, one of my favorites. I actually remember watching it in the movies when it came out. And I love that you had to stop and play "Voulez-Vous". I wasn't very familiar with ABBA before watching the movie and that song became the number one on my playlist for months. As a fan of the classic musicals (Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, Seven Brides, etc, I was a bit skeptical when Mamma Mia came out. They just don't make them like they used to. At least, not very often, but it was ABBA and there was Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. Needless to say, I thought it was amazing. Thank you and Scott for this reaction. I'm looking forward to your reaction to the sequel.

2nd movie from 2018 (with Cher's and Andy Garcia's participation in the cast) is also good and has a very very strong scene near the end.Everyone in the theatre i looked around was really sobbing even the ones who tried to play it cool.
I have to thank you so much for this reaction! This was one of my mom’s favorite musical films as she loved ABBA! I still have the memory of us when we went and saw this with my cousins when I was young and then we saw the sequel together years later. It’s one of my fondest memories of her. Watching this reaction felt like she was still here with me. If you’re interested in any other jukebox musical films, I must recommend these: Rock of Ages, Rocketman, Sing, Sing 2, Lovestruck the Musical, Alvin and the Chipmunks tetralogy, Cinderella (2021), and Trolls trilogy. I must recommend you check out this Christmas musical film, Dolly Patton’s Christening On The Square, which also stars Christine Baranski (Tanya). 👰🏼♀️👩🏼👨❓💙🩵🤍
