      Thank you. Yes.... Cultures change. What is 'socially' and 'culturally' acceptable changes. But God's Word never changes and still manages to 'pierce even to the diving asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart' of every culture in every time and place (Hebrews 4:12).

    Somebody recommended me to watch this video regarding modesty as I have had a conviction on the way I dress. I mostly wear jeans and pants but maybe some of them are a bit too form-fitting. I never felt comfortable in dresses as I have very hairy legs and would have to shave more often. I don't have much money right now to completely to make the transition to dresses but I would eventually like to wear more dresses but of course the modest ones where it covers Mid calves to ankle length. Also I might have to be careful on the type of materials I buy because apparently wearing something with two different materials is a sin I like polyester but I was told I either have to buy cotton or linen. But the problem with them is that you have to hand wash it and hang dry it which is pretty much frustrating to me. If you can give me more advice that would be great!

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, sister! Mixing linen and wool is specifically the mixed fabric we shouldn’t wear (Deuteronomy 22:11). Not wearing polyester/synthetic fabrics is a health concern- not a Biblical one, per se. I personally try to only wear natural fibers (cotton, linen, wool, leather, silk, bamboo, hemp, etc) because I notice better body temperature regulation & less body odor wearing them, plus for the health benefit of not having microplastics on my skin. They do not have to be hand wash/hang dry only- just follow the care instructions for whatever you buy.
      I have also made more of a switch to dresses (from skirts) in the past couple of years, (but currently wearing skirts again because I don’t own any nursing friendly dresses). I recommend ordering dresses from eSHAKTI (I have an affiliate link I can share), which is where I used to buy the majority of my dresses. You can customize them with longer skirts, longer sleeves, higher necklines, etc. I find the quality to be very well made, also!
      I don’t have the funds either to make a complete, all at once switch to dresses/natural fibers. So I’ve taken the approach of when I need to purchase something, I only bring in my preferences. Over time, my closet has become almost entirely what I want. 😊

      @@WomenLivingTorah I guess I will have to just slowly make the change because of financial reasons and I trust in God that he knows my heart and that he knows that I am trying to make the change. As much as I want to give myself a timeline, with God there is no timelines but I just focus on each day on what I can buy and then go from there.

    There is much to say for modesty these days. And I think you have the right attitude to rather err on the safe side.Yet, the Bible mentions over and over again, that the bride makes herself beautiful. That does include not looking plain, but attractive, without becoming sensual.
    I erred like you on the safe side, but since have discovered, that there is no offense in a slight bit of make up, a better hairdo, some modest jewelry and contact lenses. We do not have to unintentionally turn other women away from Christ, by becoming plain. You are beautiful and don't have to hide it. Just like you don't have to overdo it, there's no need to under-do it either.

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think we need to redefine how we understand our appearances and on what constitutes ‘attractive’ or ‘beautiful.’ 😊 I wear no makeup, only a modest ring signifying my marriage, and have glasses- and yet, I feel perfectly comfortable in my appearance. I neither think that I’m ‘ugly’ nor particularly ‘beautiful.’ I don’t really think about appearances on that spectrum- for myself or anybody. Rather, I focus on being modest and respectable- and I think in that, there’s beauty. 😊 Blessings!

      "How beautiful you are, my darling!
      Oh, how beautiful!(...)You are altogether beautiful, my darling;

      Psalm 139: 13-15 concurs:
      "13 For you created my inmost being;
      you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
      14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
      your works are wonderful,
      I know that full well.
      15 My frame was not hidden from you
      when I was made in the secret place,
      when I was woven together in the depths of the earth."
      So my dear Garden Joy there is no flaw in you, you are fearfuly and wonderfully made... You don't need earrings, fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake nails makeup.... If you wear those things, you are saying that God is a liar and you want to correct Him. God made us in His image. Those things change, defile the image of God. So wearing them is an outright rebellion, a direct fight against God.

    • @gardenjoy5223
      @gardenjoy5223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Wilfrid256 Who taught you that nonsense about 'rebellion'? We don't have to overdo it, but we don't have to 'underdo' it either.
      In Song of Songs 4: 10, a few verses farther then you looked, we read that she uses some sort of perfume: "How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!"
      Read about the exquisite cloths of the queen in Psalm 45: 13-14a "The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework." All rebellious sinfulness?
      Besides that, read Isaiah 61: 10 "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."
      And Jeremiah 2: 32 "Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number."
      Look at how God Himself makes his people beautiful and with what: "I clothed thee also with embroidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord God." Ezekiel 16: 10-14. Can this be used wrongly? Yes, it can. But must that be? No, of course not.
      To beautify oneself is not sinful, unless one overdoes it, where it is used to become unfaithful to God and/or husband, or when it takes way too much time, which could have been spent better. The occasion of a wedding is obviously a good reason though.
      So don't have fear of looking nice. You don't have to spend hours in front of the mirror to look cared for. Really, it is not a sin. I'd rather say it is a sin to not take care of oneself and thus be unattractive and plain and build up walls for other women to come to Christ. Paul urged us to adjust to the culture, where possible, in order to win others for Christ.

      It can be hard! A few easy modifications can help as you pray through what you choose to do.
      With leggings, if I wear a large hoodie tied around my waist. The sleeves cover the front when tied and the back covers up my bum and the shape of my bum.
      I don’t wear jeans super often but when I do, my bum is covered. Long shirts, tunics, cardinals, jackets, etc that cover that area vs drawing attention to it.
      I hope that helps. I call it a step in the right direction to start the mindfulness of covering those important parts up and not drawing attention to them.

    Also, I must say,though, knit tight shirts reveal the chest, as you are wearing, and a woman needs to wear either a loose vest, or a blouse or sweate over it ..It is not right to show the chest like that..I know what men think and say, and it is not right even for women to have to see it..Even if a woman is expecting, they should have a loose cover up, like a cotton blouse or other garment.I notice some Christian women wearing knit tops ,exposing their chest, and expecting everyone to accept it.

      Hi Mary. Thank you for saying this.
      I am a man and try to get Christians aware of this. Yes, I won't allow my wife to have tight sitting t shirts.
      The big problem is that some man think all the time about sex. And some men won't do that. The result of the man who does not, is he let's his wife dress herself the way she thinks is OK. And it certainly is not. Good that there are youtube channels to cover this.
      If older women allow themselves too much freedom, young girls will imitate them and have way too revealing clothes on.
      May God teach us all to honor Him.
      (by the way - we were in Israel and both "swam" in the dead see with t-shirts on and longer trousers on.).
      I've experienced enough that men tell me I have a beautiful body. It's not only for girls to dress neatly... Also for man.
      Shalom

      Thank you, sir, for your nice and insightful reply..It is so refreshing that a man believes this way! And that you and your wife swam with modesty, when in Israel. And yes, the wife should obey her husband, whom is holy, and to dress modestly..It matters how we dress, and I agree, even men need to be aware of their own modesty.Women lust or can have thoughts, similarly, too. I appreciate that you are wanting to be a light in this dark world..We are supposed to be set apart from the world in every way, with holiness, love, modesty, integrity, etc., and not blend in, but to be a light...Warm regards, Mary

      Covering the important parts very well. No showing of undergarments!
      If I need to wear something tight like leggings for a workout I add a hoodie around my waist to cover my bum and let those tied sleeves cover more of the front side.
      Skirts and dresses are easy, of course.
      I personally don’t care for spaghetti straps etc but if a shirt may show too much I just add a layer - a shirt under, a cardi over, or even a Jean jacket over. It isn’t a huge change but it does change the look!
      More than the clothes is the outlook - am I wearing this to draw attention?? Or are my intentions good. . .that matters much more than the specifics of the outfit.

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for watching! I live in Idaho, USA. ☺ Where do you live?
      I'm not sure what the statistics are, but I'd say there are large numbers which dress conservatively. Of course, there will be differences of opinion within modest dress-- but many religious denominations and lifestyles in the U. S. promote modest dress. A lot of people turning to a Torah observant lifestyle are also returning to modest dress.
      As for cultural dating, I would say the majority of people in the US date, including those of various religious ideologies. Anything different is very rare, but certainly not unheard of. I did not date, and I will teach my children not to date. Maybe I should make a video on the topic. 😉
      As for virginity, Christians generally value virginity while not doing anything substantial to ensure men and women remain virgins while single. The secular side generally does not value virginity.
      Hope that answers your questions! Blessings!

      One thing you have to remember is that the movies you are seeing are coming from Hollywood, which represents the worst of moral depravity in the U.S. My husband and I do not watch movies that promote values contrary to what we find written in the Bible. Unfortunately, even many kid films have sexual innuendos and crude humor in them, and so our kids don't watch many of the movies put out there, either....
      In the cities, you'll find more blatant and outward godlessness; however, in the rural areas, there tend to be more conservative people than not. I'm afraid that the media has played a role in influencing rising generations to be more and more immoral and godless.
      Of course, Yeshua (Jesus) prophesied this would occur as the days came closer to the end of the age:
      Matthew 24:12
      And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
      My hope is that our society has more people striving to love Godly than not; however, I could not give you a statistic.... I can say that the media always pushes immorality slightly beyond what is consider 'acceptable' by society... Until it's 'accepted' and then they push a little more and little more... 😔 I would think this is true in any society not based on God's Instructions.
