  • Sparky Linux is a Debian-based Linux distro that offers 4 different desktop editions (LXQt, MATE, Xfce, KDE) in 2 different branches (stable and semi-rolling). Sparky includes some custom apps that are quite interesting as well.

Sparky’s repos are astonishing-like Debian on steroids. No need to use Flatpaks, AppImages, Snaps, or downloading debs and tarballs from the web. Most likely, Sparky already has what you’re looking for. The devs are active, experienced, and very helpful. Probably the most underrated distro out there. Show Sparky some love, and if possible, make a small donation so they don’t have to rely on annoying ads on their homepage to support their work. If you want Debian but with more packages, give Sparky a try. It’s old-school Linux, and a workhorse that can handle anything you throw at it-truly one of the best distros.

@@_acipenser the sparky repos have additional software that isn’t in the Debian repos. For example, LXQt 1.1.0, Vivaldi, tutanota email, the latest non-ESR Firefox, WineZGUI, the latest Bitcoin client, etc.

@@_acipenser nop! Sparky has _tons_ of packages not in any Debian repos. I use both Sparky and Debian Testing. Both are great for different reasons, but the sparky repos are outpacing Testing and Sid repos year after year. Sparky publishes this information to their supporters, and probably somewhere on their confusing website. They should really get on repology and do some rebranding. Make clear what all the differences are. I think people would be surprised by what’s available.

A massive prop to sparky for having a central technology for building their distro-specific apps: even if it's something basic like YAD!
This really helps keep a universal style of apps with minimal dev effort, and means devs can support these apps quickly and easily :) Very dev-centric!
Also, LxQT is a pretty nice DE. Not my personal taste (I quite like modern GNOME once it's riced...) but it's charming to see traditional desktop paradigms in use with modern software :)

I used it a few years in virtual machine back when it had LXDE. Although I never got to get LXQt work the way I want, there were always strange problems. I think the reason I moved away from it was that it replaced LXDE with LXQt. It's really sad good the old LXDE is discontinued.

@@ghost-user559 Amish communities vary greatly in their practices, but typically there’s a community computer with Internet and cell phone for the rare times when modern technology is necessary. For example, booking plane tickets (Amish occasionally travel long-distances via plane), contacting emergency services, or when documents can only be filed online. The Amish aren’t necessarily opposed to using modern technology, but only when there’s no other option, and as long as it’s used in a God-fearing, humble way that doesn’t disconnect them from their faith and values. Similarly, some Amish sometimes take car ride with non-Amish to get to their destination faster.

Though it is not relevant to this video but I saw your last Garuda Qtile video and trying to install it with proprietary driver cause of my nVidia gpu. It doesn't load up. It always gets stuck at something Plymouth .... This is happening for a long time like a year or so. What should I do, can you please answer? I can't find any solution. Thanks. I've seen most of your videos and a daily watcher and switched myself to Qtile and Vim. They are awesome! Thanks. However, I'm a flutter android developer and also a gamer. Been hopping since forever, but for be I found Arch especially manjaro is the best distro for my line of work. Ubuntu/Debian always breaks things up and Fedora has less numbers of packages available. If you can then please make a video on this topic "Which distro is best for Android development?". Remember the Android Virtual Device emulator cause in some cases they are slow. Not in Ubuntu though, but it breaks always, since version 2.0 this crap happens to me always. However, manjaro is not good in Android Virtual Device support, it's so slow that it crashes all the time. This is a problem that I'm facing for last 3 months and still haven't found a perfect distro. But I'm very comfortable with arch, I started Garuda 1 year ago switching from windows. But because of lutris my latte dock always used to crash so I switched to manjaro and been there for last 7-8months. Manjaro is awesome but AVD (Android Virtual Device) is slow as hell and won't work. Again thanks for your work and effort Derek.
