Killer video Fluff -- it's fantastic to hear similarities with what you covered to hearing it from the team in Wedemark at the factory! Fun fact: production tolerances are so damn tight on the Neumann line that to get a matched stereo second mic it doesn't matter what your original serial # was, you can grab a new one off the shelf. Once in a lifetime experience at Sennheiser HQ, very cool folks that absolutely love what they build.
Fabulous indeed, I love mine, everything sounds like a record. I bought it in Europe, without tax, so significantly cheaper than 3500$. Desert island mic for me.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻 Wow, the U87 has so much more bass than your RE20. The U87 is better at capturing the lower frequencies; it sounds much better. And let's face it, it's not just about the mic's performance, but also about its status...
Had one of these for awhile a long time ago. Ran it into an LA-610 mkii. Sounded so good! Got an amazing deal on both. They are super pricey now though. Nice choice of song for the acoustic 👍
This was THE mic for a hot minute. If you didn’t have one, your studio wasn’t shit. Ever since that giant mic shootout on Sweetwater’s channel a few years ago where they let you download the recorded vocal tracks from each one in full resolution, I’ll never spend more than $500 on a mic ever again. Even $150 mics are insanely good now.
Definitely can hear the 87 pick up the room during the comparison. The RE20 seems to have more proximity effect. Love the matte finish. How would you stack it against the U67 tube condenser? 👍🏻
u67 is different beast :) u87 is beast on it`s own , can be in processing made to sound like u67 more like or very very close :) u87 is quality enough to get sound quality to profi levels
Hi! If I’d buy one, do the polar pattern (three) make it good for both singing and playing acoustic guitar simultaneously without the guitar taking over? I play rather hard and want the song to take charge. Would love your reply on that issue, big thank you!
I've heard shootouts of this vs a c414 xlii and lots of people preffered the C414. They can be found used for a fraction of the price of a u87 and sound 98.54%(+/-) the same
Finally someone with a Matte U87, I love this color so underrated

I prefer the Telefunken TF47. A bit more color and dimension. The U87ai sounds beautiful though.

Sounds good. And you definitely get more room sound with the Neumann.

Was gonna say this!

Not related to the microphone, but can you make any recommendations for inexpensive laptops for recording? Thanks, I love the channel!
First video I saw of yours, you played a thrice riff… Now you play a brand new riff. Tip of the old cap, good, sir.
2:13 Brand New?

What interface are you using
its is fine with _10pad on vocal recording?
🎤+🎙👍🏻
Not used to seeing "ai" at the end of this mic's name. What does it mean?
It's the newest version of the u87. There have been a few iterations since it first came out in the 70's.

More clear tone and less bass. Very nice...
tests >3500 dollar mic by playing brand new. I can dig it haha
Using them college words lol
