That idea about Ryan + Sarah being vampires who toy with humans out of boredom after centuries is so great.

Whenever this movie comes up, I have a vivid flashback of being 13 and writing, "Dear Diary, Ryan Phillippe is really, really hot."
Of course Avaryl was obsessed with Buffy. Of course she was.

Also, that buildup of Bittersweet Symphony during the funeral scene was sooo good too. Loved that scene.

I wouldn’t be mad about a 90s butt montage😉 I snuck into this movie as a young teen with a group of girlfriends. The park kiss was definitely one of my ‘oh I may like girls’ lightbulb moments. Also, here for queer intentions!
In Denmark the title was changed to "Sex Games" - I had a fun time explaining to my parents why I, a Catholic choirboy, wanted to buy this movie and why it wasn't a porno (well, sort of).
In latinamerica it was named "Juegos Sexuales" which is the exact translation of "Sex games" haha
I thought Cecilia (Selma Blair) was just pretending to be that faux-innocent/young pretence in order to attract all these guys and her printing off the books at the end was a reveal of her actually being in on the know the whole time

When I didn't know about my sexuality I remember watching this movie, especially Joshua Jackson on bed. Also the homoeroctic moments in Bring It On with one the male cheerleader. BY THE WAY BRING IT ON HAS TO BE NEXT!

The more I think about Cecile and Selma Blair's portrayal of her the more I feel like the best interpretation is that Cecile was just full on playing dumb and knew what she was doing the whole time, making her the ultimate manipulator. But it's sticky.
The level of excitement in Avaryl's voice when you were talking about Robyn and Troye (who can act) and she yelled "duET" was so funny
This is...like...one of THE most iconic teenie movies ever. Flawless cast and soundtrack.
Saw It when I was eleven (I became a movie stan very early in my life)

I was obsessed with Sarah Michelle Gellar with Cruel Intentions, Buffy, Scooby Doo 1&2, etc. & she did a few horror films. & I’m sad her career just stopped. Glad her & Freddie are married in real life.

Before I clicked play, I wondered how many times you would show the Ryan Phillippe Butt scene. I was not disappointed!

I don’t understand how we love all of the same movies. I guess we just have excellent taste! (I too saw this movie in theaters while under 18 due to my obsession with SMG/all things Buffy.)
And I bet you could get Ezra Miller and Lucas hedges in your queer intentions films along with keiynan and Tom. And maybe bill skargaard instead of his brother? Also, I feel so bad for Ronald in the end of the movie. Because you know he’s going to jail for at least assault. And I imagine he is 19 and Cecile is 16 and she was just super Sheltered which is why she is so clueless about sex and love.

Sooooooo excited for this Retro Review. One of my favorite movies. I had a poster of SMG at the scene at 50:34 on my wall in high school. I thought she was soooo fabulous in this role.
Oh my goodness I totally ugly cried in the theater with my best friend after this movie. We were like 14 and her divorced dad bought us tickets so he didn't have to deal with us for the day. Little did he know that we were going to sob and squeal explain in the way than only 14 year old girls can the whole way to her moms. Her mom then took us, and I promise this is true, to be extras on Dawson's Creek. We were concerned that we were to emotional to act! (Dear Lord were we insufferable!) For a moment though, I felt as if this was a review just for me! You guys are awesome!

Yes to watching all Julia Stiles' movies, the female Joseph Gordon Levitt (though I think he's the male version of her really). Great review, this film made me want to have an incredibly hard to read diary - if only I wasn't so lazy
I loved growing up in the 90s. I had my mtv and movies like this. I only watched cause I love Sarah Michelle Gellar, I loved her character and I so crushed on Joshua Jackson

Omg, omg, omg!! I would have been 11 1/2 or 12 when this came out and I was the first one in my class that saw it. The next day I told my classmates that it was totally fine and not that scandalous... and the day after that one of my friends came to school super angry because she had watched it with her mum since I had said that it was “fine” 😂😂😂 Those were the days...

This was one of the first DVDs I got, and it was also the very first time I watched a director's commentary. It was an enlightening experience, listening to the director low-key rag on himself the whole time.
It’s so funny you guys did the review for this because I just saw a video the other day of movies you should never watch twice and this is was the thumbnail. And I disagree because, are there parts that haven’t aged well? Yes, it was the 90s. But I think every teenager needs to watch this because this is a cautionary tale of revenge porn. And Katherine’s speech is my favorite part, because it’s all true. Slut shaming is a real thing and double standards are bullshit! Also you guys needed a butt shot counter.
Avryl had a cool mom because my mother said no way Jose to this movie! But she did let me watch A Clockwork Orange and Rocky Horror Picture show when I was like 11. So, go figure. My mom also was like if you are going to watch this movie we are going to watch both the originals and then you can watch this trash. I think I saw it 2 years after if came out and I was like I like Uma Thurman and Keanu Reeves better. Side not I was 14 so I was for sure old enough to see this.

Please please please do a Retro Review of Dangerous Liaisons to compare both. RP doesn’t match John Malkovich’s smarmy aholeness as Valmont, but SMG is as great as Glenn Close. That final shaming scene in DL with the silent scream is amazing. I was obsessed with that movie when I was a kid. Swoosie Kurtz is fun in the Christine Baranski role, fetus Uma Thurman as Cecile! Keanu’s hilarious surfer dude demeanor in 18th century France! Michelle Pfeiffer was kinda boring as well, guess it’s the role.
Ignoring the fact that I don't drink, I am watching this and realizing that I am Avaryl and Andrew merged into one person.
Also, I was 19 when this came out and I had all the same thoughts about it at the time. Except the vampire thing. But I NEED that to happen. Hell, all of the side projects you guys breathed into life must occur.

I've noticed that a lot of people think that modems made those noises because they had to. No. Those noises were so you could know it was working. You could mute them, but it seems that nobody did, despite experiencing them as a form of torture.
