Thank you, very nice video 🥰 I’ve done alot of tests in RE4 and DS with custom configs - M4 is a beast. You can run RE4 60 fps with more resolution, textures and effects, and DS 40 fps with more resolution, textures and no motion blur. Real desktop quality and no overheating 👌
I oppose the idea of not editing the files for the games! Well at least for the iPad M4. Because for me, RE4 was basically unplayable and I don't even have high standards of games at all. But after I cranked up the resolution just a bit and set the FPS to 90 (I think), man it was absolutely beautiful! But sure, pushing it beyond that could cause too much heat and negative effects.

There are no different versions for iPhone/iPad/Macbook (if there is it's only because of the extra 4K textures what about doubling the game size is unnecessary for phones), so basically you use the same source code on every device, so until huge amount iPhone/Mac gamers (console level gaming), the developers won't really spend much more time to separate the phone version from tablet version (also most budget iPads also got the M2 chip, but doesn't have a 16GB version, so 95% of the devices are only have 8GB RAM, they just using that insteadbof doubling their work "just" for the extra 5%)
I personally run Death stranding at full resolution on my M4 iPad Pro 13-Inch, look amazing (also enabled HDR). And it runs it quite nicely i don’t know the actual frame-rate but it’s smooth enough for a game like this.
NO, NO, NO! Ubisoft should NOT remove the control panel that lets you adjust the video settings. App developers do NOT make significant upgrades to iOS games when new hardware comes out (the “package delivery simulator” game you point out being a key example of this, as it was developed for M2 and not updated for M4). By having quality settings available, it means that future hardware can run at higher quality settings. If we are meant to drop high prices on AAA games on iOS, we shouldn’t have the games hindered by older hardware.
Thank you for this video. It was interesting to see. Unfortunately, I cannot afford one of those M4's, but it's still nice to see those reviews and comparisons
Thanks solved my life! I bought the 8GB by “mistake” since the store didn’t specify extra core or RAM. While playing RE 8 whence I got home I was disheartened cause I realised there is a higher 16GB model. Been so depressed since then and have been coming back to this doubt since that time and was looking for such an exact video. Many friends told me then it’s told u saved the money in that u would get the upcoming Mac mini. So now that the M4 mac mini is out with standard 16GB unified I could just get that in the money I saved for a better gaming experience + a full blown desktop, and if needed can customise the RAM or specs too. Infact looking like a wider library is going to be out there for mac.
I would suggest, you repeat that test 4 years from now. Because at that time, you will see, whether 8GB is enough on the long run. That approach is more meaningful than testing for frame pacing on games today.
To be honest I’m a fan of locked settings. Just like on Death Stranding or Resident Evil 4. It’s a mobile device, handheld console of some sort. Games should be optimized for the hardware, locked on best possible settings. If i want to tinker with resolutions or details - i will play on PC. Sure, visual options is a way for future iPad generations, but still…i don’t want to mess with settings, i just want to play like on console.
lots of mobile games like ZZZ, genshin impact and whatnot provide multiple settings. If it's built with scalability in mind, then visual options baked into the game are benificial for the long term. Especially when certain settings can be dynamically scaled in engine and they don't have to be baked into the app itself (e.g. resolution, FPS, shadow filtering)
I wonder if using a cooling fan would improve performance? I know that the m4 itself is a chip that doesn' t throttle much, but I wonder if it would help because I've watched a lot of reviews and videos lately (though not on the m4 ipad), but on all other devices those radiators for heat transfer really helps with more stable operation and more sustainable performance bearing in mind that on the ipad pro m4 the Logo on the back is made of copper and is directly connected to the chipset, direct contact with an active cooler could potentially help a lot
Working in IT for a robotics company, watching these videos is akin to watching my uncle who used to "work a computer on the job" figure things out. He's not precise, but it's nice to hear a john everyman (or is it "everybloke" bc he's british?) looking under the hood, even though he doesn't get what all the hubbub is about 😅 His videos have gotten better over time, which means the bells and bobs aren't as confusing to him anymore! Keep it up! On a serious note, he's getting good use out the XCode, and almost all his videos are based on its feedback. Perhaps some day Apple will let end users access the data outside the dev process.
I'm autistic and I find it very difficult to process information. So I try to check this videos with developers (especially Elverils) but it's easy for me to make mistakes. At the end of the day I'm just an enthusiast.
that constant stutter 2:10 when u move fast and fight on 16gb ram is lame they dont even care to optimize it the issue is still here after the latest patch same thing happens with iphone 16 pro max.
Is it better to play games like Tomb Raider on a MacBook with the charger connected to get the best performance like any normal gaming laptop or is it better to disconnect the charger to preserve the battery? (MacBook Air m2)
You can buy that device, just not on a tablet price.. M2 Ultra is about that, or wait for the M4 Ultra.. (about 1TB/s RAM transfer speed, compared to 120MB/s, also the CPU cores should reach even 40 cores.. but with 370W power supply instead of 20W..)
How in the world you got the FPS counter because I was curious how I get one but it can be a little bit risky to know how can I get it by plugging into my laptop to my device just to convert it that’s how you can get the FPS counter
In this case is true, but if you doesn't have enough RAM, it's counts. Those devices are also can be used 5-8 years later too, so if the iPadOS required 8GB at that time, the 8GB version won't be capable to gaming, but the 16GB version still can run the games.
@@x.Kai.x obviously it doesn’t. I am just trying to say that it is hard to name the thing that you do on your iPad as gaming. Considering the price it is the worst choice for gaming. That’s why even discussing the differences in amount of ram is absurd and doesn’t make sense at all.
It's quite simple. I make $1,500 to $2,000 AUD from TH-cam ads each month and I use that money to buy equipment I feel like reviewing. This isn't my full-time job. I only spend two days a week on this channel and 3-4 days a week working for an organisation that supports people with Autism in Australia.

It seems like Ubisoft forgot to allow AC to use more than 5GB RAM. "RAM entitlement" I think the technical term.
I saw somewhere that it’s Apple devkit limit.

FYI it’s an 8GB model and works fine
Another excellent comparison video. Thanks Stu.
Seeing the CPU utilization higher on the 10 core M4 really show most of the improvements comes from that additional Big CPU core
3:40 Yep, that's memory swapping in the wprks. And possibly lack of one core

The slight difference is most probably due to 1 extra CPU and not RAM

Hi, wanted to get know, is Death Stranding going to be optimized for IPad Pro M4, did the developers say anything about that?
I love to have advanced graphics option. You stating your opinion might affect how devs approach this and I think it’s foolish.

Are there any rumours on full screen external monitor support for games on M1 iPads?

Hay alguna manera de jugar a pantalla completa a los demas juegos AAA como pasa en Death Stranding??

Is there a list of games available on the M4 iPad Pro? Do the games only show up if you have the pro?
So can can we expect same performance from mac mini m4 ?

But how was the ram management, on RE4 or dead stranding at 60 FPS?
Apple needs to increase the Ram speed by 10 times and make the hole chip have optical circuits and two dimensional and the CPU should have 32 cores.

TestFlight access for Ubisoft.

I think December 2024
