I drink protein shake with almond milk . I agree with you that drinking cow milk is more likely harmful than the protein powder itself . The ability to break down the lactose gets more difficult as we age this often causes the stomach pains and bloating . I am also pretty convinced that modern day farming techniques render any nutritional benefits of milk useless . You end up just consuming empty calories and agitating the stomach .

I've been on a high protein diet for about 24 years (about 1.6 g/kg/day). I have NOT developed any acne problems over the years, my kidney functions were tested in 2019 and found to be normal and the hair loss I have experienced is genetically related as all the men in my family have either male pattern baldness or receding hairlines. Unlike death and taxes, protein is good for you.

That is not really a "high" protein diet. It is higher than most people but it is normal. Back in a days it was believed that you should consume at least 3g/kg/day for bodybuilders. The information that I have found concluded that that and higher levels will lead to degradation of your kidneys function. Of course it is also dependent on many other factors.

here is my experinece with Whey Powders, I hope this helps someone. I am in my 30s and was recently diagnosed with type 2 Rosacea, in my teenage years and 20s I did have bad acne which required a lot of treatment from dermatologists, and it can be common that rosacea occurs in the 30s following this. Rosacea, along with many other skin diseases (Acne, eczema, psoriasis etc) are known to be connected to what is happening in the gut microbiome. Whey Protein powders, especially hydrolized and isolate whey powders (which I used heavily for 10 years) are known to be particularly fast acting (great for after a workout) they spike insulin very high and very fast, while doing this they also cause a lot of internal inflammation in all people, but this becomes an issue particularly for people who may have an underlying sensitivity or intolerance to dairy! In my case, this has been the cause of inflammation in my gut microbiome, and therefore an imbalance, leading to skin problems. It also explains why I have always had a pink/red tone to my face and people would always ask me "have you caught the sun" actually, it was my whey protein shakes flaring my skin up! as soon as I cut out Whey proteint, and started using plant based powders this made a massive difference to my skin! (I also avoid other dairy now as well) - this has also helped with joint pain and other inflammation in my body as well as ending constant fatigue and brain fog - meaning I can now train better! Listen to your body and look out for signs of what is happening in your body, it can sometimes be something as delicious and simple as a protein shake causing issues

I buy malic acid, creatine, caffeïne tablets, ZMA and l-arginine seperatly, so i can make sure i get a sufficiënt dose at half the price of an expensive pre that doesnt even do shit except for giving you itchy skin with the beta-alanine

I experiment with my body, and I noticed when I consume cheese & dairy I get so many big white bumps on my chin. It’s only when I consume cheese. So I drink spearmint tea everyday because there is something in dairy that cause my body to produce an over abundance of the male hormone which causes hormonal acne on the chin/jaw line area. Some people don’t have these issues but I noticed for me I may be allergic to dairy or something I stay away from it

I’m 17, I used to drink whey protein shakes once a day. I’ve always had some acne but it wasn’t too severe. After a month or so of drinking whey, my face broke out over and over again. I talked to my doctor about it and they said whey protein contains lots of soy which is an estrogen, the higher amounts of estrogen in my body was causing these breakouts. Everyone is different but this is just a heads up for young men like me who are thinking of trying whey.

I drink protein powder my whole life, and in quantities beyond recommended.
I am neither bald, nor have any acne, nor any kidney problems.
So, it all really depends of DNA, lifestyle and personal regime.
Of course, brand and type of protein is utterly important! I consume whey isolate as it is purest, and buy respected brands such as Dymatize.
You can not obtain required protein per day without using supplements. You may eat good and still it won't be enough for good looking, strong and explosive muscles. You just can't obtain only with food the 2-3 grams of protein intake per kilogram of body weight per day, for average sporting male.
Drink quality protein powder in reasonable quantity and you are good to go.

I have used a wide variety of protein supplements for about 45 years, and just recently my creatinine, the inverse measure of kidney function (less than 1.1 is normal, mine is 1.3) started creeping up. So I think that over very long periods it can be detrimental, especially when you get above 150 grams per day. I would say that if you are going to use them for meal substitution, like breakfast, cut down the amount of protein in your shake, use non-dairy liquids like almond or coconut milk, and add frozen fruit to balance it out. And yes, the adverse effects of dairy on the prostate are established as well. To me, the flavor of whey protein is better than vegetable proteins, but you may be taking more chances. Adding a protein shake to 3 well-balanced meals adds very little, and as I pointed out, may be detrimental. I am a physician, so I respect the science, but also my own personal experience. I noticed on one of Larry Wheels' videos where he consults with a naturopath, that at his young age of 26 or 27, his creatinine was as elevated as mine. That wasn't even addressed in his formula for bettering all of his balances.

By contrast, I haven't had this issue consuming milk or whey in Europe. Regarding the acne point , my personal experience were when i used cheap protein powders ( mainly 100% whey protein concentrate instead of a mix of isolates and concentrate) i would break out a LOT that comes hand in hand with severe diarrhea. So the quality of the product also matters alot.

I was really worried about why it was happening untill finally one night I googled "does protein powder causes hair loss?". And there it was, the article read ,"it MAY accelerate hair loss" so from the next day I gave up protein powder and my hair loss reduced to almost none I am so happy that I had it figured on time and I will be more than happy if my experience could help someone retain their hair

I experimented on myself. Anytime I drank a protein shake my acne broke like crazy. When I stopped it went away. I tried other methods of taking the protein but none worked. I tried mixing it in with a bowl of oatmeal. I tried it with water. I tried it with milk. I even tried putting it cake batter and baking it. It also gave me the farts like crazy. Stuff is also pretty expensive. I now stick to tuna (25g of protein in a can) 90 cents a can, grilled chicken breast, eggs, almonds, the usual stuff in a high prot diet. I used to workout 5 times a week, sometimes twice a day (I took weight training at community college, so I had that workout and the one outside of class). I liked the way it tasted and the quicker recovery, but hated the price, acne and being bloated, so I switched to regular foods.

It's a tricky topic because there isn't much direct research into protein and acne/hair loss. If there was, then it would have been much easier to give a definitive answer. But instead I had to rely on first principles for this one.

Yeah, well I had about 500- 750ml of cow milk or barley milk with three small spoons of protein powder daily during the past sixmonths.
I don't remember my skin looking that badly before --> many pimples. Also, hair loss is happening really fast in the past six months. I can see negative changes on my hair line from week to week. Only today I learnt that my protein intake could be the cause for both of that. While this video isnt really clear about the effect extra protein from shakes can have, I read on other resources that there is some more evidence for that.
Whatsoever, I will pause from taking protein powder and only drink barley milk in the next months. Wanna see how my skin and hair loss will change by that.

One other very deciding factor on kidney function is myoglobinuria, which has resulted from rhabdomyolysis, or extreme muscle breakdown, in Crossfit athletes who overdo it, and many do. Myoglobinuria, the presence of muscle protein in urine, caused acute kidney failure in some of these athletes, and required brief dialysis in a few. Having read of their descriptions online, they describe that they learned their lessons, and would never do that again.

Same with my dad that has been working-out with an almost daily in-take of protein powder for like 15 years or something. Just stick to the recommended amount and you're good, the last thing we need is for people to think protein powder is steriods 2.0.. because it's not even remotely close.
Eat and drink as you do normally, but add the recommended amount of protein powder before or after your work-out. Don't replace meals with protein powder. I mean.. it's just basic shit

That's what I always read online.
    Is that really true?

    • @vittocrazi
      @vittocrazi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

i know im very late. but organisms works on homeostasis. wich in short is they balances out what you give it to make it work toward a prefered balance. however, this doesnt mean it can take any ammount of anything. and there are threshholds in wich the balance starts to fail. In the lower threshold you have malnutrition. in wich the body lacks certain things in order to balance things out correctly. the upper threshold could be considered "poisoning". in this case, the body recives more than it can safely manage (sometimes these are upper thresholds so low we straight up call them toxic, like cyanide).
so in the same way a plant's most limiting nutrient is usually nitrogen, but giving it too much nitrogen can kill the plant, the human body needs protein to function, but if yyou give it way too much (lets say threefold or more than it needs), then the body wont be able to safely handle it anymmore and will start experiencing adverse effects.
So yes. protein can be responsible for hair growth, but produce the opposite effect if overdone. same with testosterone.
There are people that have gone through medical complications because they drank way too much water, even.
