My father was an Al Jolson impersonator. I grew up listening to Al Jolson (my father) on a daily basis. A wonderful voice and great songs that will live on forever. Thanks Dad! :-)
For the first 12 years of my life, I grew up in both Carolinas. This song was popular in the Fifties, too! Brings back good, warm memories. "Kiss each little buttercup"...I love it!
Jolson is timeless and Thank God they re-recorded all his hits in the late 40's. He not only got to be A HOT DADDY in his final 5 years, but now we have what will be his legacy forever. The much deeper register of his unique voice (he was a high tenor when he was a broadway star) plus this new thick creamy resonance totally come together with his over-the-top "you aint hear nuthin yet" style and we have JOLSON at his absolute pinnacle of singing. He not only made the first "talking movie", and was the first to put a runway in a Broadway house, and the first to take Broadway shows out on the road, and one of the first stars to fly to WW2 troops to entertain them ... from which he got malaria and had to have an entire lung removed. Singing like this and on 1 lung........ I for one am greatly appreciative I got Jolson and he was dead when I was born.
I used to listen to him and Eddie cantor and many otherson the radio. i guess i've seen and heard a great deal in my lifetime. music has always been a saving grace for me. That's why I've reached 74 years old.
Did any then 61 year-old singer ever sound as good? Barbra and Ella were still great at that age, but my point is that Jolson was still at the very top (along with these two) of his game in 1947. Even in 1950 - when Al Jolson recorded his beautiful Stephen Foster songs, he still fully had it! Just months before his death.
Along with Daffy Duck's rendition of this, I also remember Fred and Ethel Mertz singing this as a duet in I Love Lucy. It's got a great melody, and the lyrics are pretty jazzy!
I used to sing this to my little son Lionel when he was 18 mths when we dropped his Mum off to work eves ...His Mum's name was Talita: I changed the words: Nothing could be finer than to be with little Liner in the morning.... Nothing could be sweeter than to be with our Talita in the morningLoL!
Ever since I was little my grandma would rock me singing this song. She’d pause for me to finish her sentence, to sing in the morning. She still does it to this day. Just hugging me and rocking me back and forth. It’s a habit now, doing this to little ones, cradling them and singing this song to them hoping when they grow they’ll sing with me.
my mom started singing the chorus to this song...signed in, punched in 'nothin could be....and behold my Mama's singing along right now...love this site...just for these moment...
I used to play this song from an old songbook as a kid, and I got the tune stuck in my head lately, but I couldn't remember a specific line. That's what brought ME here! "Strolling with my girlie when the dew is pearly early in the morning." How could I forget THAT?
Though USC is bound to loose the game today it still is a great day to be in the balmy weather of this glorious state. My Uncle and probably half the people I know would be delighted with SC's second teams win. Hold that tiger.
@bobbutler1 Definitely. Few had his stage magnetism, according to many. During one traffic infested drive to work a few years ago, I listened to Jolson, and arrrived at work feeling better!
I need full version of the Cam and Mitch's cover
Hell, I need a two-hour Mitch and Cam album of them singing ragtime hits

Came for modern family
Stayed for an absolute masterpiece of a song
Nothing today compares with the quality of Jolson.

My Grandmother used to sing this to me while rocking me to sleep. Miss her so much.
What a voice
Jolson had a voice that could fill a theater without a mic!
You could put your hands on the back walls & feel them vibrate, when Jolie sang!
As Denis Norden politely.observed As a performer he was second to none.
I'm here because a good friend's mother used to sing this for us- in the 50s.
He had a glorious voice. Dated but great great voice

Growing up, my great uncle John used to always sing Jolson’s songs and imitated him! Good memories ❤️
My parents and older sister loved Al Jolson. I was introduced to him the day I was first brought home from the hospital in 1956.
Al was our voice on the silver screen. Love his 'thusiasm.
Me too, he was great! (:D I like all optimistic "cheer-up" songs, no matter what country they come from! (:D Roll on Blue Skies...
Al Jolson, an American institution, the world would be a better, kinder place if music like this would come back mainstream.
My dad use to sing this to me when I was a little boy back in the late 70s/early 80s.
I sing this song to my baby cousin whenever he's either bored or crying. He often loves it.
By far the best version ever of this great song.
my mom started singing the chorus to this song...signed in, punched in 'nothin could be....and behold my Mama's singing along right now...love this site...just for these moment...
My nan and grandads loved this guy and so do i and what fantastic tunes!
I used to play this song from an old songbook as a kid, and I got the tune stuck in my head lately, but I couldn't remember a specific line. That's what brought ME here!

Great vocals. Thanks for posting.
My airplane was built in 1947....rolled out of the factory on March 3, 1947. Seems like '47 was a good year :-)
This is a really nice song, it took me a while to realize that Trocadero made a cover of this song for red vs blue.
Though USC is bound to loose the game today it still is a great day to be in the balmy weather of this glorious state. My Uncle and probably half the people I know would be delighted with SC's second teams win. Hold that tiger.
My grandpa use to sing this to my mom when she was a little girl
There's something likable about this song. I am a rocker, but that does not mean I can't enjoy pop songs from the before I was born :)

As a performer he was second to none said Denis Norden.

As he got older, he voice got better, deeper, more emotional.
This was recorded only three years before Jolie died. He didn't have the energy he once had.
