LOTS of ways to sore a horse. Even flat shod horses are often sore. I have known people that ride horses on gravel to produce on PURPOSE stone bruising on the sole of the foot. Sometimes they even protect the hind feet so it is the only the front feet bruised. Impossible to find scars from that. Big Lick horses also often live in "sleeper chains". A sleeper chain is a VERY heavy log chain. It is worn about a week before a show... just in the stall. That limited movement removes no hair and produces no scars, but it caused deep tissue bruising on the pastern and coronet bands. That makes the foot "hot" only during the show as the light pretty show chains strike the already deeply bruised tissue. They all the time talk about how the show chains are no heavier than a watch, but try wearing a watch on an already bruised wrist. Stacked horses will tear hoof wall off occasionally if they drop a stack. That is why you only ever keep them in a stall. Big Lick horses are worked for no more than 15 to 20 minutes max at a time. Tendon strains start occurring much after that point. Even horses "just on stacks" with no soring are out of balance and ripe for tendon issues. Why on earth would you want to do all of this to such a beautiful, kind horse with a wonderful natural gait? The more you know the less you would EVER want to be a part of this.
Race horses are stalled almost 24/7 as well, and are typically fed grain only once or twice a day instead of in small increments along with low-sugar hay. The abuse of horses in "horse sports" is rampant and disgusting.
I honestly don’t buy that they don’t think they’re doing anything wrong. They gloss over everything and get so defensive, clearly they’re hiding something and know it. Btw I am around saddleseat horses (Arabians and Half-Arabians) and man they are so beautiful and majestic, it’s unreal. I am so disgusted that the big lick gets mixed up with saddleseat. Big Lick is literally to Splenda as Saddleseat is to real sugar, as an analogy. I didn’t know anything about Big Lick before seeing videos on it through TH-cam just this week. I lost my appetite almost completely after seeing how these horses move...they definitely look like something out of a sick sci-fi movie and it’s so depressing. Keep bringing awareness to this issue
Thank you for always speaking out about this disgusting practice! Tennessee Walking Horses are such kind horses, making them prime for this abuse. Just disgusting and shame on anyone who defends this absolute garbage.
Deanna Corby I know you are. And you have to look at the fact that you have enlightened many people about what’s happening. It may not feeling you’re making strides but I promise you are. So don’t give up. Even if it’s only for the fact of younger generations NOT doing this. Then you will have made an impact.
I’m from Australia watching. It’s hard to believe it goes on. What I’ve watched from you videos and others is that it seems secretive. And to me anything that people do to hide what goes on in their stables to me means they know it wrong and cruel. I cannot believe that this is considered beautiful. It is painful to my eyes just the discomfort the horses are forced to endure.😓😢
I appreiciate what you are doing. I don't like big lick either. I've had walkers all of my riding life, I switched to dressage trying to understand it and see if the principles of it applied to improving the walkers gait. After all these years ,I'm dating myself, I can say with a definite yes that it can, When you look at the videos of the old time walkers you see how beautiful they were. All those against big lick, we need to provide the alternative! Show the world what the walker can do! Learn how to really ride and train. I would like to get a hold of a few horses and bring them along.
Now I wonder if my gelding was ridden in stacks. He had hock arthritis when I purchased him 10 years ago. Blamed on a stall incident. THis gives me pause that he might have been ridden this way.
I love how you say that the horses are family members 🥰 I have a mini horse and he is apart of our family, but not just apart of it, but he’s also my best friend 🥰 💕 💕

They think putting stuff that burns away at there skin is k well it's not I am sorry I am so annoyed this should not be inflicted on innocent horses they just want to be a horse not a show for humans while they are in pain 😫😑😔😖
Question? So I have walking horses but don’t show and I’m very curious about this issue. I was recommended your videos and I don’t yet understand your issue with the pads and action devices? I definitely agree 100% with your stance on soring that is horrible but your stance on stacks sounds to be all option such as your opinions on their style of ridding. I have also seen articles where vets have stated the stacks and action devices cause no harm To the horses. I want to learn more and was advised you have a lot of facts on the issue
Horses are built perfectly to be horses. The use of stacks, even without soring, puts far too much pressure on their backs and hind ends. Especially in young horses whose bones haven't fully formed yet, stacks can actually cause their pelvises to break.
Big lick was almost gone until President Trump stopped the legislation to end it. I've spent quite a bit of time on this. There is big money in this and a lot of questionable characters.
