So how did the Black Ferns win the Rugby World Cup? | World Cup 2021 Analysis

  • It's the impossible action that captured a nation. The 2021 Rugby World Cup has been won, and it wasn't by the team almost nailed-on before things began. This Saturday, the Black Ferns completed the greatest moment in their history as they won the World Cup in front of the biggest crowd they'd ever seen. So what went wrong with the Red Roses, and how did New Zealand seal it?

    So proud of our black ferns , and hats of to England as well.

My go to for an independent view of New Zealand rugby and alternative to kiwi on kiwi chest thumping. I used to say All Black rugby but with the Black Ferns Red Roses playing the greatest test of Eden Park, I say New Zealand rugby. Thank you for all your Women's World Cup videos that introduced me to all the other great and amazing players wearing all these different jersies. Without that I would have known only the black ones. IMHO because NZ had one more player for most of the games due to referee inconsistent decisions, England player red carded for (i agree) high tackle and head to head contact, yet NZ player only yellow card for high tackle and head to head contact roll on the NZ trolls

    • @charlesray9674
      @charlesray9674 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if you saw the Australia-New Zealand match, the Wallaroos skipper had also made a head-to-head tackle and was given only a yellow as well. And if you had listened in on the conversation with the TMO, you would have been scratching your head because she lowered it from a red, not because of mitigation (she admitted there was none), but because their was a "low risk" of danger....🤯 Any blow to the head is dangerous!! 🤬
      So the Kennedy Simon decision was better much consistent: the tackler was actually trying to make a tackle whereas Lydia Thompson wasn't.

    England relied way, way, way too much on their forwards. In the final, the backs hardly got their hands on the ball, except for that first try. New Zealand had the better back division overall and they won the game in the end. Fluhrer is to be commended for her play in setting up that last try. She regathered that grubber, passed it off, and it resulted in the game winner. England had some chances to retort, but the backs were basically shut out of play in the second half, except for that counter attack run by Dow that resulted in a yellow card for a high tackle that might have warranted a red. I don't know, I played in a different era, and the game has changed so damn much because it's more like rugby league and rucks are not really contested anymore, but I want the backs handling ball in space, not forwards. I don't like seeing some flank forward or number 8 at flyhalf in open play, but a real flyhalf or center there, because they are backs for a reason: they handle better, pass better, and are faster runners. Anyway, it did seem that the narrator's outlook on how England basically tightened up toward the end of the game was spot on. New Zealand were also down to 14 each for ten minutes in the late second half, but England failed to take advantage of the temporary levelling of the sides.

  • @ldfreitas9437
    @ldfreitas9437 ปีที่แล้ว

    Watch if there isn't a twenty or thirty minute red card time period, with a sub allowed to come on after that time. As the red card was quite early in the game, England could have been at full strength, with a sub for the sent off winger, for much of the match into the second half. That last line out: good reason that lifting should be banned. I have never liked it. Yes, it seemed NZ figured out who the ball was being thrown to. Easy enough then to challenge, because if no challenge, England might have mauled their way to score as they had so often in the tournament. Legalized obstruction in mauls has allowed this reliance on them to score.

      Also Portia was superbly brilliant before that point making something like 80 metres and many clean breaks. England probably would have won, but I wouldn't have counted the Blackferns out either. But yes it was up to England in the end with their tackling technique. Or one player of the 15 on the field.

Outstanding fearless play to run from as many opportunities as possible, great for the game to see running rugbyvprevail over 1 dimensional pushovers which frankly are the bain of the sport. England scored a lot from the maul this tournament but to call them one-dimensional is ridiculous, not least after the way they scored the first try of the final.
      If they played the way New Zealand fans think they play, we wouldn't have seen Kildunne's try in the final, or either of Dow's tries against Canada. We wouldn't have seen MacDonald score four tries in the opening game and England wouldn't have scored any tries against France.

    Really liked your analysis of how massive the impact of the red card was. The pundits on TV just didn’t want to talk about it, presumably for fear of being accused of being overly critical of the player. All they needed to say was ‘these things happen in rugby, but it was tragic that it happened to England in this game of all games’. But it became an elephant in the room and made them look odd by not addressing the big factor.

Even getting the correct frame to pause on is a challenge. For the last segment of the game it was 14 v 14 and although you had a player red carded the result of that clash saw the Black Ferns most try scorer side lined..
