Rick and Francis are the most underrated guitar players in the world! When i was at school (long long ago...) my classmates always said to me that they were boring, playing the same song again and again. Quo will always be my favourite band. Till i die..
then there is the rolling stones that sound more the same than Quo - Rolling stones are so overrated and all their songs have basic one verse line throughout songs , Quo bring so much more
Pete! One of my very favorite TH-cam guitar instructors! I’m a goofy yank and haven’t heard any of these before but I sure like em... Thank you for your time! Buddy
I agree that Francis and Rick have never got the recondition they deserve. As for the John and Alan, just brilliant. Also why I'm on the horse, I hate the old "Three chord band" tag. It's an insult by people who are not musicians and have no idea of what they are talking about...
This is a very interesting and informative video. Great to hear one or two songs that aren't the obvious hits. Big Fat Mama has always been one of my favourite Quo tracks - despite being one of the hardest Quo songs to play. Despite their apparent simplicity, Quo songs are easy to play badly. It's not just the notes or the chords, both Rossi & Parfitt played with a lot of aggression & attack and there are a lot of things - little syncopations or off-beats which aren't immediately obvious. I can play to a decent level but I can't get the hang of Parfitt's style or sound
Try playing some of their tracks, they ain’t easy to play I can tell you! As a teenager me and my mates would rock out at the local disco, a guaranteed floor filler was Caroline, the crashing, heavy intro literally propelled us onto the dance floor where we gave it all we’d got. Great days where music was the collective pull along with girls and drink, heaven!!
Rossi is so creative! There's some other guy on TH-cam that plays Parfitt and Rossi's parts separately and Rossi's have so much character and just tons of great ideas. (Not that Rick isn't great!)
@@PeteFGuitar nice tele Pete. In the mid 70s I recovered my kit in black. Bought a larger Premier bass drum and played in several Quo cover bands for several years . I really admired what this band gave us when we were young guys. And thank you for sharing your ability and admiration for the same stuff 👍🏻🙏
Thanks for your interest. Sadly, since I made this video, TH-cam gave in to pressure from the music publishing companies that own the copyright for the songs that I feature in this series of videos, and allowed these companies to confiscate the royalties from the pay-per-click advertising revenue. I believe this is unfair for several reasons. First of all the intention of these videos is for education. Secondly, these companies benefit from the free promotion that I and others like me give to their copyrights, exposing them to new generations that might otherwise not have discovered them. I am a professional musician and music educator, and it is no longer financially viable for me to make more videos like this. However I remain available for private tuition. I can be contacted via my website www.prfmusic.co.
Status Quo, in the '70s, was a hard-rocking band. You could not match their energy. Serious guitar players, those who say they are not are sadly mistaken. They are a different band today but I still like them, still solid players but not at the original energy. Age is cruel. Rock on Quo.
Thanks! I record the audio using Logic Pro X on a MacBook with a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. I mic up my amp with a Shure SM57, and I have a Sennheiser shotgun mic to capture the vocals. I use two full HD video cameras for the footage, and everything gets edited together with Magix Vegas Pro 16.
Heyy can someone please tell me the name of the second song? I dont really listen to status quo myself but my granda likes them and im wanting to learn some music he likes.
Francis is my guitar hero but he never showboated like other guitarists.Rory was another they never shone the spotlight on themselves .Both guitar geniuses In their own right
Hello Pete, thanx for your reply. I am a Quo Fan for more than 40 years, i am 54 years old coming from Germany and play a little bit guitar, too. For Hobby. I love the Quo live Album of 1976 recorded in Glasgow.....wow
I live in the same town that Status Quo came from. 'Coulsdon'. I broke my arm very badly coming off my bike on the same road that they had their 1st house, which is not that nice of a house at all. Is on Lion Green road, you can find the road on google maps or whatever. My dad also used to tutor this girl who then lived in the same house that they lived at after that one, which is on the Brighton road, which was a bloody nice house indeed. But then they obviously got very successful zand moved to this ginormous house somewhere in the Webb Estate in Purley and lived the good life doing buckets of cocaine or whatever. Michael Buble is a resident there now as well. Unsure if Francis Rossi is still there or what he's doing, his sons own a coffee shop near-by though, I know that. Research that one, pay them a visit. Not that much of a fan of the band myself. Into way more technical stuff, but they're fairly nostalgic for me I guess. used to hear them in my childhood in the car on cassettes when my dad was driving..

Yes I preferred the earlier frantic four version of Quo. No-one rocked harder in 1973. Cheers Keith.
Love your lessons Pete. Please can you share how you record your videos? Equipment, mics, etc? Regards

Well done Pete! Cheers....
