I put a seat concepts seat on all my dirtbikes. I just buy the full seat but another option is buy the foam and cover then take those and your seat to an upholstery shop and have them do it for like $20. If you are at all uncomfortable with your stock seat (lets be honest, all dirtbike stock seats suck) then get a seat concepts one. You will be very happy you did. Also yes jake Im pretty sure the wrinkles in the back are installer error, none of my premade seats from them have had any imperfections
If it wasn't for Seatconcepts I'd have probably sold my 701. Night and day difference, the stock seat is basically made of wood. Being in Europe it cost me 500€ with shipping/taxes included, and even at this price I think it's worth it.
One of the best mods I did to my Beta 390RR was fit a Seat Concepts comfort seat, I'm a shortarse though so went for the low version, still a wedge confier than the stock plank and also looks great and helps me get a foot down too. I got the full seat rather than the kit, and had no wobbly bits on the fit of the cover. If I ever change dirty bikes I'll be def getting another of their seats for that bike, well worth the cost. Your CRF looks proper mint with the SM wheels on it 🙂 Seeing folk make vids like this of stuff they have not done before is great, it shows the issues us folk would have not knowing tips of the trade, so it was awesome you showed us how to fit it yourself! 🙂
I bought the complete seat for my drz400 it was well worth every penny I spent on it I would highly recommend it to anybody who spends more that 5 minutes sitting on any stock dirt bike seat 🤟
If one doesn’t have a pneumatic stapler… I used a regular hand held one. When staples didn’t sink all the way I just took a hammer head to push it in the rest of the way. It worked great… nice clean outcome.
It would have been interesting to see the reverse, ie your projects are always moving towards the more comfortable. Why not start with a Honda Goldwing and make it to a more practical dual sport dirt bike?
You can use the hand held staplers for construction use, I had one left over from putting plastic on the side of a house and it worked pretty good for putting a cover on a 350X
Thanks man. Just about to install mine prior to a one week moto camping expedition with friends in the mountains, plateaus and valleys of BC Canada. Great advice and much appreciated showing how to do so. Certainly looking forward to new seat after 6500 kms (4000+ miles). I do have an Egli (CDN company) sheepskin seat cover for much of that which has literally saved my ass...
Bought my 300l with the complete XL option. Going to throw the stocker back on to see how it feels. Seems to want to push you foward unless you're all the way foward.
Ugh so many things I want for my bike. I’m a college student, not a whole lot of money I can just spend. But I saved for the 300L, and there are so many things I want but can’t get, the pain!! Ha, all a part of the fun. Wouldn’t enjoy the bike and the process of building if I could just do everything I want to it tomorrow. Next purchase will 100% be Warp9 wheels. Hopefully I can scrape some disposable money together by the summer for them. Great video Jake, your ass is blessed with comfort now.
I know that pain my guy haha. My old drz got built up bit by bit over a few years. I saved my pennies and keep an eye out for good deals. But I still enjoyed the bike all the time. The only time it was down for some time was when I sold the dirt wheels for Supermoto ones. Hated doing it but couldn’t afford the 17s otherwise. But the time between selling them and getting the others was like 5 months 😩. Now I’m in this weird position where I shoot out some emails and get all the parts I need. Been a hell of grind to get here so I don’t feel “lucky”. More of “this is my job”. But still… pretty damn cool haha.
As a 450l owner I see people complaining about its seat everyday. I want to ride mine to the middle of Australia, and because of the look of replacement seats I am committed to the idea that I will be frequently standing and just not using the seat.
I have a compressor. I have access to a staple gun, but I know my level of frustration when I do something myself. The same flaw might be present by the pro and I wouldn’t notice, but if I did it then I would spend so much time and energy trying to fix it that I would probably make things worse. I think it’s worth the extra $100 and buy the seat. Then have the option to take the stock seat for nasty weather or still have a seat if I ruined the aftermarket one. 2 seats!
Nice job! The wrinkles at back would bother me too. Nothing you could really do. Do they install the foam and cover in the pan for you if you buy the set including pan from them, like with the XL? Edit: yep! Complete Seats come assembled with an aftermarket pan and ready to ride.
Man my old drz came with a Corbin. I think it was meant for a short rider cuz I was always sliding forward. And it was slick! But I’d love to try a normal or tall one from them. People swear by em.
FedEx charged me 40 dollars to ship my seat pan in. I feel that I paid way too much. I wonder If UPS or USPS would be the same price? Sent it normal ground not overnight
@@TheGardenSnake no just hold your hand on the other side and don’t hold it on one spot to long. Then hit it a few times as your are stapling it down. Once it returns to room temperature all the wrinkles disappear.
quick question I love those all aluminum wheels is it possible to have Adventure tires on those rims trying to build a package for my crf300l with tubless tires I'm not crafty enough to modify stock spoke wheels to tubeless thx for any help or ideas
I'm a bit less excited about my seat concepts than most. Is it better than stock crf250l? Yes.... Is it an amazing touring seat? No.... To put a number on it id say 40% better than stock. I would still upgrade but just be aware its not amazing.
@@findingneutral Hi. I am fond of the seat. I guess from the great reviews I just had higher expectations. It is definitely more comfortable than stock. Just be aware that in the end its still a dirt bike seat and not made for touring. I will say that it seems to be getting better as it's breaking in. I would still purchase again.
Oh well 😂🤷♂️ it all worked out I guess. It did seem to drive em harder with that turned up. Like twice I accidentally bumped it up and it blew right through the cover.
i got a seat for my DR650 custom made to copy the seat concepts shape and with a grippy new seat cover and seat warmer for 120 bucks. i would love a seat concepts seat but i dont think its worth spending so much more... i mean since i got that seat and a couple other ergo mods i always compare my DR to a BMW GS comfort wise. i just used "seat" 7 times in 3 sentences lol

Do you really think it is +1 inch taller? I just got one and it doesn't seem noticeably taller in the back. Oddly, it seems taller in the scoop and a little back, but not where I put MY butt.....
Yeah it only bothered me right after I finished. I think cuz it was the only problem. But after walking out and looking at it the next day I was like “looks fine”.
@@TheGardenSnake looks like the plastic profile is more trianlge than the foam. Hard to make this work. You're not showing much of how that fit was, but shaving down could have potentially made a difference. Since the plastic is roudned off, there is little chance the foam needs to have overlap in order to not cut the fabric/vinyl. Granted, this might make the whole thing too long, but thats also why the professional install might have yielded better results. Irregardles, you said you put 1 or 2 staples in at first, which you dont wanna do. Best is to do the same as the front and align it beforehand. Foam shape though, or maybe your alignment to the plastic, is probably the main issue
I hate to say it, but I suspect that you will regret using galvanized staples and not stainless steel. I know you said you couldn't find them, but I think you will eventually see some ugliness from the galvanized ones.

Seat looks great. Well made. 99% fine!
They could make a smooth piece of plastic rear part of seat.
Yes, you should go find out.
Just got mine in the mail last Saturday. I’ve been riding around on a stock wr450f seat for 4 years. My pancake ass could not take it anymore
The whole time I had my wr450f I ran the stock seat. I feel stupid now. That think was the worst!

They should make a blue one - like the 80s XLs
That knob on the stapler is an exhaust diverter not a regulator
Or get the cover and foam, rip the foam off yourself, then glue the foam on. And have a local upholstery person put it on

add more foam to wrinkly areas. It wrinkled because its not full, so stuff some foam from old seat in there !.

I ordered one of these for my tdub and after watching this video I am sure mine is going to be crooked.
You could have got rid of the wrinkles by using some extra padding at the rear perhaps a strip of the old foam
what bolts did you relace the original seat bolts with?
