It’s so refreshing to see a contemporary director using old fashioned filmmaking techniques and not bombarding us with CGI. Nolan is a genius and one of the greatest filmmakers working today.
I love it to. But his incistens on not using it made the beach in Dunkirk seem empty and barren. It was over 300,000 people crammend there in real life, and in the movie it feels like theres maybe 10,000. He should stop being so damn stubborn or go all in Sergei Bondarchuk style. Becouse as it stand now it really detracts from an otherwise excellent movie
Christopher Nolan is by far one of the best directors ever. Every single one of his movies is amazing & it’s crazy to me that he hasn’t won an Oscar; another reason why we need to stop giving a fuck about award shows.

nolan is well on his way to been remembered as the finest movie director that ever lived ... his movies are not just visual masterworks but the storys he tells and the characters he creates work hand in hand with the visuals .. i dont know anyone who doesnt think inception and interstellar are mind blowing movies ... now also add to this list the james bond in revers movie and the guys vision is increadable ... but his secret weapon is the teams he chooses ...

Interstellar is such a masterpiece and when I get my new oled tv this weekend will be the first hdr 4k blu ray I watch on it. Seeing how he filmed it makes it even more special.
Love these biographies. They look beautifull and your way of telling Nolan's story is great! The only thing i didnt like as much was the voiceovers when you read out the quotes from Nolan. The Voices seemed weird. But great job anyways!
I was about to write the same thing. That voice is great for trailer parodies, and other over-the-top situations. It is annoyingly wrong for playing the role of Nolan, given his voice is nothing like that, and an ordinary, down-to-earth tone would work just fine.The female voice also sounded out of place, and too echoey. Nothing against these voice talents, it's simply a matter of wrong voice casting. The documentaries are so well done, that these "little" things spoil them like an ink spot on a freshly-ironed shirt. Keep up the amazing work.

@@Evanderj Thank you. If I didn't appreciate what this channel is doing, I wouldn't even bother. And often, there are some issues with Italian or other non-English language pronunciations but that can happen, and I've seen much sloppier works in big, A-grade productions. I wouldn't be so sure as to the actor not understanding his assignment. He was - most likely - given the context, which often hardly ever happens in major productions. I've heard numerous times voice talents, even top dubbing actors, complaining about having to do blind dubbing for games, or getting a last-minute script for film and TV productions. One that jumps to mind is the Italian voice for Russel Crowe, coming from a long tradition of dubbers, having to lend his voice for characters in AAA games without being able to see any part of the game at all. And I could go on with similar examples forever. It might simply be that this actor is not very flexible in the type of voices, and styles he offers, and therefore went with his standard way. Unfortunately, this voice does not fit the product. There are people who have very peculiar voices. For instance, recently I have found a Python programming course, and the guy sounded very much like someone from a TV show or cartoon. Not a bad voice but I thought for a moment the course was originally in English, and this was some Italian dubbing but... it was not ;) Not that he sounded like him but, so you understand, it'd be like hearing Morgan Freeman teaching you how to write code ;) A voice is like a colour, a scent or a spice, or even a piece of clothing: smelling chocolate in the woods is weird, just like seeing someone in flip flops at a royal wedding is weird 😃
I love your autobiograpgical videos but the voiceover of the person speaking (or rather reading his opinion) is terrifyingly funny. You don't need that, trust me. I am binge watching( or rather listening) your vidoes as I am working. :)

There is one tip successful youtubers often give when asked about advice for new youtubers. They say don't try to be perfect, your videos will suck in the beginning and you will cringe when you look back at your early videos years later. You clearly failed that advice. Perfect video👌

Excellent work on covering Christopher Nolan’s life and films. The Dark Knight Rises is my favorite film in the trilogy as it wraps your Bruce Wayne’s journey as Batman and comes full circle with Batman Begins. It’s a shame he didn’t get acknowledged as being one of the best directors of a given year until Dunkirk and The Dark Knight arises should have been nominated for some Academy Awards, but it just goes to show how the Academy doesn’t get it right. I know you don't have the same quote reader anymore, but I don't think the voice is as bad as some make it seem. It certainly doesn't tank the quality of the documentary. With the right attitude, I feel the voice elevates the project. It felt like an intentional, artistic choice, though I get why it changed.
I am in awe of the montage at the beginning of this video. How well it captures highlights of characters in Christopher Nolan's movies (that are covered here) over the incredible music by Noa Lembersky....wow. It's as if this is a trailer to some grand epic movie that somehow weaves all these movies into one. I applaud this - well done.

I've just come across this video after watching Memento tonight and checking some short youtube video about Nolan's beginnings...God almighty! This documentary is top class, this is just some amazing quality in narrative and editing! I was supposed to be asleep but instead I've spent over an hour watching this and now I just want more! I missed the Inception Akira link. Akira is absolutely incredible, all hand-drawn. The early scene with the motorbike race is staggering. The music really adds to it. A masterpiece. As is Inception. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Nolan got a Bond movie?
Very good documentary. Well put together. The only funny thing about it is that he takes extra care to pronounce the French names and words perfectly, while Nolan's quotes are spoken without abandon. So damn funny how that happened.
While The King's Speech was a FINE movie, I still can't believe how many awards it took that year over Inception and The Social Network. Both of the latter movies are frequently mentioned among the best movies of the last 20 years and I haven't heard anyone mention The King's Speech since 2011....
yeah still baffling to this day because both the latter movies obviously are heads and shoulders above, even if The King's Speech is by no means a bad movie. maybe back in 2011 they just viewed them all differently

If I had one criticism, it would be that; If you're going re-enact the the subjects voices, they should vaguely resemble the actual subjects or don't try to re-enact them at all. Chris & wife Emma Thomas are both English. Why Chris sounds like an American Private Eye & Emma, a French woman, is quite perplexing. Better to just quote them via the standard narration rather than butcher their accents.

We had problems with copyright of some interviews and some quotes have been taken from books and magazines, so there is no original voice there. However we know that the voice actor did it tremendously ridiculous. We solved it in our following works. By the way, no one in our team is native English speaker, so, sorry for some small translation mistakes 😅
So I recently got hooked on these because they go into details that you won't find on any other channel, and I also like how they get someone to do voice quotes that you know sounds nothing like the person they're quoting.

The story of "Christopher" should be captured in the autonomy of well real life its essence is besides freedom and the impugned deprivation of liberty, it is a wonderful feeling to those possessed of creative genius to invigorate the senses escape your captors and relish the conquering of fears that hold most to such unjust servitude, the power of liberty. Is it any wonder Inception was a great movie.
Oh, yeah. This documentary reminded me that the movie "Interstellar" would NOT have happened if not for Kip Thorne. It was his original idea to try and create a workable fictional film, telling of some of the fantastic points in general relativity theory, and how they might possibly affect humanity. His following up with a Hollywood contact eventually ended up as "Interstellar". He is well noted in the credits of the film. I'm not positive at the time of writing this comment, but at one point it was absolutely true that Thorne had [co]written the only paper on the possibility of time travel to ever appear in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. The graphic modeling software he helped design, to allow a realistic, actual human POV depiction of the black hole in the film, has also been written of in the literature. It's important to note, however, that the most realistic depiction of the black hole, the one a person would truly see if at an appropriate vantage point, is NOT the depiction appearing in the film. It is the one 'compromise' he came to with Nolan regarding the pure science of the situation. Nolan was able to relate how, with the IMAX technology being employed for the film, there was no way to put on screen exactly what Thorne wanted, because of things having to do with contrast range, color pallet, and other technical points. He convinced Thorne scientific accuracy would somehow detract from the experience. (The information given here is taken from a lecture given by Thorne, available here on YT, although I don't recall the exact title. In that lecture, however, Thorne DOES show his audience what he had WANTED to get on screen. My only recollection of THAT portion of the lecture is that, unfortunately, whatever it was that the lecture attendees saw did NOT end up being displayed very well in the video of the lecture). Regarding time travel, up until Thorne came along, no one else would touch the subject in the literature. It is interesting to note, however, that Kurt Godel had found a solution to the Einstein field equations describing a universe in which time travel to the past was supported mathematically, back in the '30's or '40's. Godel was a friend of Einstein, and lived close by. They were often seen walking and conversing around the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton.

If I had one criticism, it would be that; If you're going re-enact the the subjects voices, they should vaguely resemble the actual subjects or don't try to re-enact them at all. Chris & wife Emma Thomas are both English. Why Chris sounds like an American Private Eye & Emma, a French woman, is quite perplexing. Better to just quote them via the standard narration rather than butcher their accents.
Hi! Thank you for your feedback. Nolan was our first release here. We had problems with copyright of some interviews and some quotes have been taken from books and magazines, so there is no original voice there. However we know that the voice actor did it tremendously ridiculous. We solved it in our following works. By the way, no one in our team is native English speaker, so, sorry for some small translation mistakes 😅
This series deserves at least a million more views than it has.
So I recently got hooked on these because they go into details that you won't find on any other channel, and I also like how they get someone to do voice quotes that you know sounds nothing like the person they're quoting.
You might like @studiobinder too then, I've also just found this channel but unlike yourself didn't like the voiceover.

The story of "Christopher" should be captured in the autonomy of well real life its essence is besides freedom and the impugned deprivation of liberty, it is a wonderful feeling to those possessed of creative genius to invigorate the senses escape your captors and relish the conquering of fears that hold most to such unjust servitude, the power of liberty. Is it any wonder Inception was a great movie.

Oh, yeah. This documentary reminded me that the movie "Interstellar" would NOT have happened if not for Kip Thorne. It was his original idea to try and create a workable fictional film, telling of some of the fantastic points in general relativity theory, and how they might possibly affect humanity. His following up with a Hollywood contact eventually ended up as "Interstellar". He is well noted in the credits of the film.
I'm not positive at the time of writing this comment, but at one point it was absolutely true that Thorne had [co]written the only paper on the possibility of time travel to ever appear in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
The graphic modeling software he helped design, to allow a realistic, actual human POV depiction of the black hole in the film, has also been written of in the literature.
It's important to note, however, that the most realistic depiction of the black hole, the one a person would truly see if at an appropriate vantage point, is NOT the depiction appearing in the film. It is the one 'compromise' he came to with Nolan regarding the pure science of the situation. Nolan was able to relate how, with the IMAX technology being employed for the film, there was no way to put on screen exactly what Thorne wanted, because of things having to do with contrast range, color pallet, and other technical points. He convinced Thorne scientific accuracy would somehow detract from the experience.
(The information given here is taken from a lecture given by Thorne, available here on YT, although I don't recall the exact title. In that lecture, however, Thorne DOES show his audience what he had WANTED to get on screen. My only recollection of THAT portion of the lecture is that, unfortunately, whatever it was that the lecture attendees saw did NOT end up being displayed very well in the video of the lecture).
Regarding time travel, up until Thorne came along, no one else would touch the subject in the literature.
It is interesting to note, however, that Kurt Godel had found a solution to the Einstein field equations describing a universe in which time travel to the past was supported mathematically, back in the '30's or '40's.
Godel was a friend of Einstein, and lived close by.
They were often seen walking and conversing around the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton.
