As a standup comic, I owe a huge part of my career to Freddie Prinze. He is the benchmark for us Latino comics, his act is such a influence in my sets

When I heard of Freddie's death I went to the kitchen where my mother was cooking, she was in front of the stove stirring something I told her about Freddie she said nothing but I could see a long tear coming down on her cheek, I have never forgotten that moment.

I remember hearing on the radio that Freddie died. I was shocked! He was so handsome, so talented. He was only 22 years old. So young. I heard he was hooked on coke plus Qualudes. No wonder his mind was so messed up.

Depression does that, drives you to drugs, alcohol, anything to help you numb it for a little while. It's a evil disease, I deal with it daily. It's not fair, everyone around you is amazing and you're sad and the guilt is the worst because you just don't know why and feel you shouldn't be that way. I don't wish it on anyone, it's horrible to battle everyday. I do my best and thankfully I just couldn't leave my daughters and wife to deal with that but I can't lie and say it hasn't been the easy way out several times in my mind.

His wife gave him divorce papers because he was too much into the drugs and maybe womanizing too.
But I believe it was more about his drug use and his wife didn't want him around his baby son all messed up.
    Drugs, pressure, confusion, depression= suicide.
He was still a kid at 22 my God.☹️😥
A waste of talent and life so tragic and sad.

I too remember Freddy Prince, I was 13 years old a young man at the time. I think it was season 2 about half way into the season you could Freddy losing weight on the show. His chicks on his face started to look skinny so was the rest of him. He started to get so skinny one could see he wasn't filling out of his pants.
Anyhow, I to miss Freddy Prince as a human being and a great performer. The show Chico And The Man will be my all time favorite shows of the 70s.
That show still holds up nicely today. R. I.P my friend.

I was 7 when this happened. I loved that guy! I could'nt believe a seemingly perfect existence destoyed by his own hand. Still can't believe it.
Those ludes and downers can really talk you into some stupid crazy shit.
Just now a poem has arrived.
    Too much too soon,
    The quaaludes changed his tune,
    Maybe ran out
    That's not quite clear,
Then a .45 in his ear,
    When that evil voice
    Says what you must do,
It's only the drugs talking to you,
It's only the drugs talking to you,
    Put that thing away
    And go lie down,
Let that train pass through your lonely old town,
Please don't let us all down,
Please don't let us all down,
    One thing for sure
    That's true as can be,
    If I must kill someone
    It ain't gonna be me!

I was 9 years old at the time and my brother was 11. It was one of the saddest days of our lives. We loved watching the show. He was entertaining and had a bright future ahead for him. Anyone considering Suicide should realize that everyone goes through stressful situations and you just need to ride it out. People care about you.

I remember when Freddy Prinze took his life I was with my father walking into the building where my eldest sister resided, we both heard the news in my father's car. I had a brother who was going to be a year of his death in the month of September and the thing is that my mother was still in mourning of my brother's death.

If massive depression is the main reason Freddie ended his life then that's more than enough reason for anyone. Depression is a serious illness and even more so when its massive. I myself suffer from it and its horrible. Unfortunately, the Quaaludes didn't help him at all it only seemed to make things worse. I got an eerie feeling watching this.

Add to that, illegal drugs...new york times, stated he was flushing bags of illegal drugs, down the toilet...why, the people close to him, couldnt give him the help he needed, was another issue...a business manager, a secretary, his wife, his mother, seemed to have worn pink sunglasses, on this situation, which didnt happen overnite...illegal drug users, usually have that situation, going on, for years, until they hit, a brick wall..what was wrong, getting this man, to rehab !? Seems the people close to him, did nothing, at all...they turned a blind eye..

Such a sad story. FREDDIE PRINZE was one of my favorite comedians from my childhood, one of the very first I can remember who really made me laugh watching him on CHICO AND THE MAN. In March of 2007 I visited Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery and left a red rose on Freddie's crypt. It seemed like a very cold and lonely place where nobody had visited him in a long time. He is buried right around the corner from ANDY GIBB another great star from the 70s who also died way before his time. They are both buried in an above-ground mausoleum. I left ANDY a red rose too. May they both RIP.

I remember when Freddie shot himself. All of his fans were so shocked and so devastated. One thing I learned about not too long ago shocked me again. Freddie Prinze Jr. said in an interview that his dad was not half Hungarian, he was half German. Freddie Jr. said his father didn't think that "Germarican" sounded as funny as "Hungarican" so he went with that instead. I must admit, after all of these years, I was suprised to learn that.

I remember Chico and the Man tv show and it was so good.
The day I heard that Freddie had shot himself I just couldn't believe it. My brother in-law couldn't understand why I would be sad since I didn't know him.
I was just a little over 10 when his show was on and both my mom enjoyed it alot.
    Throughout the years
I've read quite a few articles on Freddie And His Battle With Depression, Massive Quaalude Addiction (40 to 45 Pills A Day) and Cocaine.
One article stood out about Freddie attempting suicide at the age of 17 because of a breakup with a girl. So already Freddie had depression and may have had some addiction to Valium.
Too much to soon is unfortunately the term to many people have used in tragic celebrities death's.
Depression is Very Real and Freddie tried so hard to suppress it and come off happy but for the most part he wasn't.
    R.I.P. Freddie Prince.

He wasn’t depressed over the break up of his marriage. He knew his marriage was a mistake. He was upset due to monetary issues. His ex wife was going to wipe him out financially, he was being sued by his former manager, and he had a drug habit he couldn’t kick. He also had no access to cash. All of his money was in escrow and he couldn’t touch it. Freddie was worried, depressed and helpless.

I've been thinking alot about poor Freddie lately,as I did in years past.I feel so sorry for him,a young life forever cut short.I like this tribute to him, very informative. At the end he summed it all up too well,by saying wherever you are Freddie. That's the thing,he is either in Heaven or Hell, there is no in-between.It depends on what he believed before that fateful night he killed himself. If he had accepted Christ or not.I personally don't believe suicide is unforgivable, it's not being born again beforehand that is.

Saw him in person about 10 months before his death in Montreal taping a Bob Hope Olympics special in Canada. During the break in the filming of about four hours for an hour or hour and a half TV special he came out to keep the audience upbeat. And he was as funny as can be. Made Bob Hope look like a chump with his stock preplanned jokes. For the cameras. And he was only 21 imagine. I saw him just before he came out and he was staring out the audience as he was being introduced and he was just staring. Bing Crosby was there to do the show. Sammy Davis Junior was to be on it but was too sick. Shirley Jones from the Partridge family did a song. And then the shock of when it was on the radio of him shooting himself. I remember the radio announcer said how he couldn't believe someone so young and talented and rich how spoiled he must've been. Then the next day he was dead.I swear I could feel his soul crying out that he wished he hadn't done it.

There's an old fashioned theory that says demons cause depression.
Those who think they know everything will scoff.
Those people often know the least, & serve as tools, unwittingly used by the very demonic hands that have them deceived. These entities hold their noses while holding their blind human servants who spread their evil propaganda in contempt.
And when these humans have served their purpose, the demons simply discard them like a used up dirty dishrag. Then the human pawn gets his reward. In hell.
