I can't express how much I love NY. I think that the episode seen at 2:56 (2x10) is one of the most important ones. Natsume is clearly terrified that he has to leave this family after that incident as well but Shigeru just comes towards him and comforts him that this is now his home. Shigeru and Touko are so absolutely fantastic parents for Natsume. I'm so happy that he lives together with them. He really deserves it.
Absolutely, it's such a powerful scene, I remember the way I felt when I first watched it. It makes you feel like you're right in the moment, being scared for him even though you know it will be fine, and then feeling that warmth and emotion that follows.
And then it becomes one of those unforgettable shows. I've lost track of how many scenes there have been where I've been too emotionally invested in Takashi, and then if he is hurting in some way, I get that gut wrenching feeling too. I've never had a character have that impact as much as Takashi does, I'm so glad he is with them too. They are such good people, I love the episode about them too💕

And yes, feeling and suffering with Takashi as well as being happy together with him is one of the most important reasons why I love this anime so much. There exist other characters that I also sympathise with a lot but Takashi will always have a special place in my heart. NY is one of the very few anime that you can watch and watch again and it still is as touching as when you first watched it. Touko and Shigeru are so precious people and the episode about them is sooo good. It perfectly complements the episode in which Takashi gets adopted by them. I'll never forget the moments when Takashi realises that they really want to have him in their family and when he begs them to take him with them.
@@b-chanhatysa3150 you're right, it's so touching and wonderful and keeps it's impact , it really is a great anime. It really excels with characters and empathy, even for yokai you only know for a little while, Yuki Midorikawa and the anime staff really did a wonderful job, I'm glad we get to see it💕.

It's amazing that Natsume Yuujinchou can hold your attention to the story without any romantic relationship. That masterpiece is about bonds of family and friendship, that make it so unique and pure. I also think the choice of making Nyanko-sensei a cat is that no one would ship them (because people have that weird thing to ship humans and youkais, mainly when the human is a kid, and it is gross).

Yes I love that she wrote a shoujo with no main romance. And it's such an amazing one! I love it when authors unerstand that a "girls" anime/manga doesn't have to be all about romance to be good. Surprisingly people still find a way to make the ships anyway, shippers always find a way. But yeah I'm really glad sensei is a cat😂. I'd be scared that otherwise it would have been shipping all over the fandom, which I wouldn't want for this anime.

@@li-5026 you might have a point there XD. I do like some ships, in romance anime, but not with shows like this were there isn't actually supposed to be romance. I'm absolutely in love with the friendships though.
@@a_me_1 I like it too, like Nanami and Tomoe, inuYasha and Kagome, inuSSboku lady and dude that I forgot the name... But i hate those pairings that have adult/kid or that are not meant to be a romantic bond, but a friendship/family

This anime shows how much Takashi is really similar to Reiko but at the same time, shows how the younger generation can change. Both Takashi and Reiko were loners, but eventually Takashi had friends and even a family, they both can see Youkais but Takashi mostly avoids them while Reiko bonks them with a baseball bat full of fucking charms, and they both at some point met Madara, and i think one of the reasons Madara was sealed is because Reiko, so one met Madara as an opponent and the other as a companion
That's a really good take on it. I hope someday, they explain how Reiko and Madara knew eachother. 🤞

Midorikawa sensei is a fxcking genius. Words cannot express how much I love this series, both the anime and manga and how much i love all the characters. Its just such a masterpiece and hits all the right notes for me I JUST WISH I CAN HUG NATSUME TOO. No other series can make me feel so much. I am not an emotional person but this series... While watching/reading this series I could legit feel all the feelings that Natsume felt including his loneliness 😭

I felt sorry for her, it was not her fault, theoretically nothing changed, he just did not value her comfort anymore
I adore natsume and natoris relationship, but still it bothers me that no one finds it wierd . . . without knowing about the yokai thing it looks so so wierd and tokou is totaly ok to let the older stranger take her impressionable and afraid to offend anyone son to a onsen trip and all. There is no good reson they should even know eachother and him beeing a famous actor only gives him more leverage . . . why does no one find that questionable?! Especialy with how flirty and comfortable to touch Natsume he is?!
Yes!!! I know exactly what you mean, I thought that too, my mum did aswell. Being the show it is, we know he's safe. But in real life that would be kind of sus, Natsume would be easy to manipulate too. Even on that trip, Natori mentioned lying and it literally gave Natsume a bad dream that made him wake up tearful. He is very impressionable back then, and Natori is a bit shady (I love him too XD, but in real life I'd be worried)

It just looks so so much like grooming what he does and in a way, that had been his intention at the beginning though not in the sexual kind of way.
We know he sees himself in Natsume and wants to be the protector he never had, the kind voice and ear he had wished for. We know he adores Natsume to pieces and would never ever do anything intentionay that could bring harm to him. He goes against his own values to not offend the kid, though absolutly hateing the book for endangering Natsume, he would never try anything out of fear to lose Natsumes trust and afection . . .
But even Natsume only gets half of that and to everyone else it must look so so wierd that this famous, sought after but loner actor chooses to kind of stalk the most insecure and in need kid. Half of the time their interactions do not even look like Natsume is all to happy about them . . . .
@@SingingSealRiana honestly I kind of blame the anime for how it came off and how they framed everything. like for one thing in the manga the exorcist meeting chapter was natori’s second appearance, and the hot springs trip came later. he also went to natsume’s house briefly in the exorcist meeting chapter and met touko, so she had already been introduced to him and already knew him as one of natsume’s friends when he invited him on a hot springs trip. also the anime just framed their dynamic differently which I think is probably because they were trying to sneak in implied fanservicey stuff:/ when in the manga his early appearances come off way more as him being just socially awkward (cause all of the exorcists are) and had never had any friends before and was excited to meet a non-exorcist who could see youkai. but the way the anime framed things such as body language and shots I think made it easier for people to interpret it in a creepy or sexual way when he’s just awkward and socially weird. bad at boundaries and interacting but not like, in a gross predatory way. and the hot springs trip especially I feel like the anime was trying to make it seem “romantic” and weird when it (thankfully) is not like that at all. they did this with matoba as well in his appearances (the anime made him way more creepy and worse than he actually is, in the manga he’s also more awkward than anything). it’s annoying that the anime framed stuff in a way that could be interpreted as gross but thankfully it is just a problem with the anime and not actually like that in the original material XD
@@elyssabuettel9825 it is redicioulus how socialy awkward they all are, but especialy Natori whos whole knowlage of human interactions stems from screen plays and everyone expects to be better at it^^ . . . . ., still, even if not as blatently stranger danger screaming as in the anime, in the manga, without the background knowlage touko and pretty much everyone simply can not have ,it should look questionable to the characters. I kind of wished for more hesiation, more questions, less blind trust. A real offender would not be as over the top as in the anime either.
We still got an older stranger, with no good excuse to approach a kid, very close with said kid and absoltly no reason why they should gravitate to eachother. I would be suspicious as a mother or friend of their relationship especialy concerning a cinnamonroll like Natsume who is way to kind and trusting and extreamly bad at looking after himself.
I do not blame Natori at all, and knowing what is behind it totaly negates all potential predatory vibes, but it puts me of that no one seams to see it fit to get behind their relationship
@@SingingSealRiana that’s true, and in real life it would definitely be weird for people to be that trusting, but there wouldn’t be a whole lot of point in adding that in with having the other characters like touko being worried, especially since it’s such an episodic series and when the supporting characters show up there needs to be more focus on natsume’s dynamic with them so just story wise it would be unnecessary to add a separate plot line of touko being concerned. but yeah I definitely get why people were like “um?? ma’am why are you letting a stranger take your child on a trip??” I also reacted that way lol. I’m like. touko I love you but maybe you should be more suspicious of that 😔

@@MVi8 thank you I'll look into those ideas, I've already gathered natsume tanuma moments but it goes on for over 20 mins, these two are always being so caring and kind to eachother XD. I'll have to cut it down or break it into more specific categories 😂.

If anyone has recently gotten into Frieren I recommend this show a lot. It has similar vibes and messages. A lot more sadder some times, but with a bittersweet resolution each time. Wholesome as fuck and just outright relaxing.

Yeah absolutely, I'm pretty sure they got a different animation director to really prioritize it. I'm not sure how I feel about the style itself, but the animation was so well done, it probably has the most realistic movements from any of the episodes, so it really portrays the emotions so wonderfully. That episode really is a special.
@@a_me_1 i think it's highlighted because in that season, Reiko rarely get connected to Yokai cases outside of trapping the Yokai names in the Book of Friends. Animations aside, the episode recembelance between Takashi and Reiko is amazing, they both ain't messin' around if some goofy ass Yokai disturbs the people they care about.
@@shoccpikachu1991 absolutely, they both have kindness and strength. I think it's cool that they have Takashi be more kind, while Reiko is more strong. If they were going to be more stereotypical they probably would have had it be the other way around, but they didn't and I think that's great.

Natori gave him many headpats. I really love that character, would hate it if something bad happens to him.
I'm hoping we'll get more seasons, so we can see more of him in the anime. But yeah, It would be horrible if something happened to him, I seriously hope the author wouldn't do something like that though, she usually writes relatively gentle stuff so hopefully we'll be fine.
@@a_me_1 there are times in the manga where she teases us of such outcomes. One time when he saved matoba from a hidden knife. Another in the same scene when he was affected by a spell and couldn't really breathe. One time when he was protecting sensei and the others while carrying the yuujinchou and they were attacked. Natsume returned later finding the house Natori and Sensei were in half destroyed. I really thought that we had been badly hurt... Yes, she's just teasing but I'm really scared that she will really do it next time. Natsume got hurt sometimes and Natori has become a terribly kind, likeable, and trust worthy person to Natsume that it might trigger a death flag or hurt flag.😅😅😅
@@ame8710 yeah I've read the manga too, and you are right, the japanese version is a few chapters ahead and is in the middle of another Natori arc too. Which I'm happy about but also worried . The thing that gets me is Matoba hypothetically talking about the reason why the lizard doesn't go to his left leg, I really don't want him to get injured like that😓. Then again Matoba was maybe trying to spook Natsume to get him to suspect yokai more too, and its just his theory.

I noticed that too, it made me kind of sad, but after rewatching a few times, I think it may be a sign of growth. And also a sign he's doing a lot better now when it comes to emotional wellbeing and confidence.
Natsume often recieved headpats as a form of reassurance during moments where he was upset, quiet or could use some encouragement in some form, maybe now he's doing better emotionally and doesn't need them as much.
Though even so I think some positive head pats would be very welcome going forward too🥲

My man I just looked it up and nastume book of friends is still on going!? I've loved the anime and movies and read some of the manga up until it stopped updating.....that was almost 7 or so years ago. It probably stopped acus3 in Namerica there was something going on between Japan and American serialization. But man the fact that it's still going amazing me and makes me happy.

I've meant to ask- is this way of showing affection the more common one in Japan? I'd never argue with people showing they care about Natsume, but it's always confused me a little why he gets headpats and not hugs.
Yeah it's more common in Japan, particularly towards those younger than you as a method of praise, reassurance or affection. I think the headpatting thing is adorable but I always sorta wish someone would give him a hug too though. I know a few yokai have but I think it would be even better if it was one of his human family or friends.

How many seasons have been aired in Japan? I'm in Indonesia and have watched 6 seasons of the series + 1 movie. Is there more seasons? But the ending of ep. 11 season 6 was (I think) kinda hanging.
There are only 6 seasons so far, 1 movie, and a few special episodes.
In 2021 a new 50 minute special was released, called Natsume Yuujinchou ishi okoshi to ayakashi raihousha, it's available on Aniplex, and on most other anime sites, like 9anime .to for example.
There is no season 7 yet, but the manga is still ongoing and the show is still popular and getting new merch all the time, so I think there might be more seasons after some time😊

@@a_me_1 if the 50 minutes (with Ishi Okoshi and Ayakashi) is not the movie then it means I haven't watch the movie 😭. At the beginning I doubted because 50 minutes is too short for a movie. And yes, 2 special episodes from Season 5 and 6 I've watched them too. But not the Sensei with two kids one. Or the one where Sensei got split into 3 small Sensei.
