Belly dancing is sexy, fun, and burns up a lot of calories to boot! In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as the Basic Egyptian. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time.
So now we're going to learn how to do the Basic Egyptian. Come back to the neutral position keeping the knees bent, once again chest lifted, lower abs in. And you're going to touch the right foot in front, and come back, touch the left, and come back. Touch the right, and come back, touch the left, and come back. Keep the knees slightly bent at all times. And now as you touch you're going to push the hip up, and release, and the other side. And as you push up, that hip is going to go to the opposite, upward diagonal. So if you're squeezing your right hip up you're going to aim at the left upper corner. And reverse it, when you're squeezing the left side, aiming at the right upper corner. Chest is lifted, and adding that small lift and twist. Once again, you want to make sure you're not bouncing in space, the chest is lifted, the head is still. And once again from the side. And now we're going to add arms. Same active side of the leg will be active with the arm as well, so the right hand will be reached right in front, the left will touch the top of your head, and then you're going to switch. Pushing right in front, and down. From the side. So now we're going to start both the hand and the leg at the same time. Reaching forward the right side, with a twist, and switch, with a twist. Let's try that with music. And there are various arm positions for this movement, so you can see lots of different variations, but this is one of the most basic versions. So this is how you do the Basic Egyptian.

She is a wonderful teacher. I am of indian origin and started to belly dance instead of going to the gym. I have to say her teaching is better than my middle eastern male teacher who can't explain as well! Dance is a skill which is not dependent on where you come from but more on your talent and motivation! By the way he says I have picked up the movement s well in just one month!

She didn't say ANYTHING against anybody's culture, she is trying to learn this dance form and simply commented on how she couldn't find a worthy instructor and that 'dance' itself is a universal skill, irrespective of its country of origin. i am disgusted by most of the comments and remarks. this is a "how to" tutorial. Irina is a beautiful and accomplished belly dancer. She also dancers and teaches tribal fusion style. I believe her roots are in classical egyptian. She has wonderful form and definitely has a magical way of explaining each movement and connecting them to form a challenging yet attainable choreography. Thanks to the person who posted this and her other videos.
For everyone who is arguing on this dance being slutty or not, please do a little research on the origin of belly-dancing (Belidi, meaning my country) Yes, western society has made it slutty. Egypt of 1952 it was made illegal to show the stomach, so the dancers must wear a body stocking to cover up abdomen ( called 2 piece bedlahs) Originally, belly dancing was taught to the little girls! It was not perverted! They did this as entertainment at family parties. and This women is beautiful =D peace

She is good.. and let's remember she is teaching beginners and she is doing a great job illustrating the moves.

I've just discovered this series and I'm enjoying it. Irina is a great teacher.
I see quite a few jealous women and men making comments about this dancer's ethnicity. She is dancing the way she feels about this dance and trying to teach others in a clear way (this is not a performance) to begin learning this dance. This is one dance venue that for some reason has an over abundance of divas, divos and race baiters as evidenced by some of the nasty comments made here.

You do have abs. You can't see them, but there they are somewhere under the fat.
If you didn't have abs you wouldn't be able to stand up right or balance while walking.
