I heard the studio version of Ridiing The Scree today and listening to Phil Collins playing in 9/8 time signature (and slower tempo) just blows my mind! He has an amazing sense of timing, rhythm, and changing up his beats and fills. It made me wonder if he overdubbed them in (which i doubt he did). Phil Collins is in the top 5 "amazing drummers" of all time, and that's why Genesis chose him seconds into his audition at Peter Gabriel's parent's home (I love how they tell the story of Phil's audition).
Why do people say that Phil is an underrated drummer or Tony Banks underrated member of Genesis? Tony Banks was co-founder and with Mike and Peter THE decision maker and prominent member when it came to writing and being prominent in the music. So stop the non-sense, pls.
When Peter decided to leave Genesis it did hit me like a bomb! It felt as if you were making out with a girlfriend and then she suddenly pulls away and takes off leaving you hanging. What a painful experience just thinking that he would never come back or what could have been.
Its live and raw baby . These days they'd have some fucking backing track on with some little bird jigging around in front miming . This is real musicians, doing the do.
Probably my favorite bit of TB wizardry! Only problem - it's too short! - I think this tour was really the peak of the whole band - TB's playing is at it's peak - and Phil's drumming is also at it's phenomenal peak!
The tempo played by the band members leading to solo was waaaaay too fast making it virtually impossible for Tony to play accurately - it almost sounds like Tony is playing the solo at original tempo (probably from muscle memory) superimposed over the backing played way too fast if that makes sense...
Lo mejor de Genesis en vivo, Collins, Rutherford, Gabriel, Hackett y Banks juntos, ya son leyenda. Concierto en el Empire Pool Wembley de Londres en Agosto de 1075, grabado por la BBC.
Melvyn Parkin It was at Wembley Arena (Wembley Empire Pool as it was known as then) large cavernous arena ill-suited to the intimate atmospheres Gabriel wanted to create. BBC recorded the gig for broadcast on Radio 1.
I do find it interesting how many Genesis songs seem to lack Steve Hackett. I guess the lead guitar just didn’t fit in with the busy keyboard parts on songs like these, but I wonder how Steve felt on the trick of the tail and wind and wuthering tours when the rest of the band got to jam out on the cinema show (imo the #1 keyboard solo) and he had to stay backstage
I want this at my funeral to wake every one up. I absolutely love it 😊
me too
They really ramped up the funk for this version!
A sprinkle of stardust

Phil is the best progressive rock drummer ever he is on every important record
and undoubtedly at the apex of his technical prowess
@@thisislogout he spent that tour on weed with headphones on. Admitted as much. Freed him up IMHO
freaking TONY BANKS, the most underrated member of Genesis

Not in my book.

I felt that same in 1975.
Good one Glicky me droogie!
Weird to hear it played so fast. I much prefer the slower album version, which has a groove, almost a little funk. Gabriel's vox are great though!
No way Tony would play this at the speed they started with haha, the tempo is insane

Phil sounds snappin on drums.
Best bedspins tune ever!!! I speak from experience.!!
ha ha!!! that takes me way back!
Banks, Rutherford, Collins, Hackett, Gabriel ARE THE BEST
Too fast tony made some mistakes. My favorite though
Kabrowiskibby he’s allowed to make mistakes , he wrote it.

It's funny how late Peter comes in with the lyrics, I guess the 9/8 meter can be a bit tricky.
nice recording.
Best version
Great recording. Cheers. 🍻

@@briane5706 Thx for that info, Brian.
WOW!!!
Here I go.....
Phil Collins, an underrated drummer
Not underrated. Not well enough known by his 80's 90's fans as a great drummer, perhaps, but that's what happens when you sell out...
Yo Glickey!!! Long time no vizi droog, how goes?
Hey Peter, good to see you're still here, haven't seen you for years. I'm great thanks how you been?
@@GLICKTON okay. Feel free to visit my songs and videos. The last were some live performances
amazing how 3 musicians and a tambourine can make magic. no Steve on here.
