I know this video is old but I recently bought a Scion and your channel has helped a LOT when it comes to first time diy modding! Id like to swap my head unit for the one you have since I have the retro one and I don’t really like the look of it but I don’t wanna go aftermarket yet, is that just the same as the frs/iM to your knowledge? Thank you so much!!
It should be the same unit from what I read. There's also pre-configured equalizer settings on my headunit for three different cars; the tC, FRS, and probably the iM. I would have to check during break to confirm that 3rd one. Funny that you commented on this video actually. I just swapped out my KSC-SW11 for the KSC-PSW8 in my attempt to find the largest subwoofer that will fit under the seat, so I'll have a video up for that one soon.
i’m planning to install the KSC-PSW8 to my Kenwood radio & thinking of fuse tapping it do i still need to hook up the remote wire (power control wire)? if so, where did you connect yours to?
Yes, they will feel it. I actually just swapped in the KSC-PSW8 (amzn.to/2GfLDqI) 8" subwoofer as it uses the same wiring harness, and it's pretty impressive for its size, especially once you time align it to the other speakers.
Appreciate your videos! I just received my own Kenwood sub and will be adding soon. Question: I recently upgraded to an aftermarket Pioneer 601EX head unit. I notice 1 of the plugs did not match up to the new adapter cables and coincidentally my 6x9s in the door stopped working. I've deduced this plug is a dedicated line to the speakers via a factory amp under the driver's seat. Do you know of an adapter plug/alternative method to bring the speakers online? I would prefer to keep the stock amp functional. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
There's a remote turn on wire from the amp under the driver's seat that the powers the 6x9's. You need to connect that to the remote turn on wire for your head unit. Let me know what you think of the sub. It's not a whole lot of bass, but it does help with the low end a little without taking any space or adding too much weight. I've actually started looking online at some of those subwoofers that inside the spare tire. I've seen them get some pretty good reviews for what they are and they should kick more than the Kenwood is capable of, but I'm not sure if they will fit inside our spare tire or not.
@@edwardbaltazar690 on aftermarket harnesses, blue. On the tC harness, I think it's white. You'll want to to double check that to need sure though. I still have the factory radio in mine so I haven't touched that wire myself.
hey im looking into installing this for myself but I honestly have no clue how... My biggest question is where did you put the p.cont?? I have the 2013 Scion tc with the old pioneer radio. If you could dm me on any platform of your choosing I would truly appreciate it
I don't recall the exact wire I tapped into, but if you probe your radio harness with the ignition in the off position, you want to find the wire that has always on power. It's going to be a wire on the end of the harness and is usually yellow.
Quick question... I setup this exact sub woofer i would say the correct way with the remote turning on only when the stereo turns on. But I do not have any sound coming from the sub, do you think you could help me or suggest what is wrong.
So the remote lights up blue? If so, then the remote and power wires should be good. I would check the connections to the rear speaker harness or make sure the RCA connections didn't come apart.
Thanks for the video. Quick question. I don't have any power coming from my usb port on the console. I checked the fuse and it seems to be fine. Any ideas?
I haven't personally traced that wire, but it should be going directly to the back of the head unit so it might be powered from there as well. Does the AUX input work? I would assume that the AUX input and USB port would run to the same harness on the head unit. If the AUX input also fails, then check the harnesses behind the head unit. If it works but the USB still has no power, then you're going to need to start tracing wires.
I didn't want to cut into the factory harness at all. I'm glad I didn't too because now the subwoofer is using RCA outputs from my DSP instead so no more wires are coming off the back of the factory radio harness.
We've missed you
I have so little free time lately, but I'm still around.

do i still need to hook up the remote wire (power control wire)?
if so, where did you connect yours to?
Yes, I had to connect it. Go to the 7 minute mark for this video to see where.
thanks...this was really helpful
is this something the passenger would feel after you tested it at the end it really seems like it.

@@VampyreX13 post a possible update video regarding this new set up?

@Y8combone it's not too hard if you pull up a Toyota radio wiring guide and match up the wires on some paper in a checklist format ahead of time.

Like the one in th-cam.com/video/t2iW7VeIsw4/w-d-xo.html
is it possible to run two of those sub in 1 car?
Yes. Someone else made a video showing how to link a single controller to work with two subs.
Hey where did u get the bars in the back? I need that for my tc

Good luck. Please , let me know what you find out when you trace the wire.

My Kenwood sub does not fit my needs. Hoping a kicker will fit under seat.
Post here if it does, but I was pretty sure that I checked the measurements on it and it was too big by a couple of inches.
Should've used some T taps
