    Never thought I could be a diy homebody, but, the wife didn’t want to pay for a new screen door set-up and said just try it yourself first , TH-cam university provides soo many course like yours to help first time diy homebodies….i did replace the screen, now I’m gonna replace the plastic wheels that have worn down throughout the years…looks simple enough, thx

    Thanks for a helpful video. I'm frustrated trying to get the wheels back on, so your dose of honesty about not getting it the first try was helpful too.

    Thanks to your comment about top rollers being only guides, I decided to simply reverse top and bottom of my door. With the hardly worn top rollers on the bottom, I removed the weather strip and reversed its direction, put back in its grove. The flipped door rolls easily without need to remove any rollers, took less than 2 minutes.

    It's very true. You can fix most anything in your home. Some people are more mechanically inclined than others. I did my glass door wheels, and didn't even watch a video, just looked at it, took it apart, went to ACE and got the wheels, and put it together. Drive time included it took me about 1.25 hours and $10. And now I know how to do it.

    Even better...you can usually just flip the screen door over, if the springs in the rollers aren't shot.

    Hey thanks for the video. I found that if you put the little hooks on the guide and pull the wheel assembly, you won’t need the flat head screw driver on the backside while mounting the assembly.

    Your video was exactly what I needed to replace my rollers, thank you. I also agree with what you said at the beginning of the video in that most people can do their own home repairs with patience and common sense. This project definitely needed patience but after tinkering with the roller I was able to get it installed after 20 minutes. Of course the second roller only took 3 minutes.

    What is so refreshing about this video is it is done by an actual home owner who encountered problems and just kept the video going. I had a 'ell of a time getting these out but the visuals here gave me what I needed to overcome the POS design. I'm a mechanical engineer and a do it yourself guy. What's the worst case scenario? You try and fix it yourself and fail and end up paying to have it fixed. Like ZERO downside so I agree.. Not much in a home you can't fix yourself.
    As for the POS design I could come up with a better design in about 10 seconds that would last the life of your house and blow this crap design out of the water. I will use a worn out cliché' ...We can send people to the moon but we can't seem to make a simple screen door that is used about 200 times a day slide in a track freely without failure. Why? because the Chinese never sent anyone to the moon and this is where we get all this crap. We all need to wake up and start realizing the "Global Economy" is a synonym for reducing the quality of everything we do, say, use, see and touch to the lowest common denominator.

      there's a lot to unpack there... but yes I agree, try to fix it, if you break it, it was already broke... now you can buy a new one knowing you tried to fix it. :)

    I just used a flat head (regular) screw driver to widen the prongs and it came out a lot easier. Ty for the video to show me how the mechanics work on this saving me money on a new screen door.

    Thanks! You saved me a few dollars. Didn't know there were rollers on top. Also, found that using a flat bladed screwdriver (3/16") worked really well at spreading those tabs apart to reinstall. Got them both in on the first try! I'm subscribing and checking out your other videos.

    Exactly what I did this morning b4 I watched this...took me about a hour to figure it out I thought it was the bottom rail cause it had bits missing from wear and tear but I put the door on upside down to my amazement it rolled perfect so I decided to swap them round with the bottom as I had no spares and the feeling I got when I put the door back on saved over a 100 dollars

    The rollers in my screens were riveted to the internal corner pieces which hold the frame together. In other words, the rivet serves as the axel for the plastic roller, so the roller cannot be popped out. The entire assembly must be replaced by removing the screen material and gently hammering apart the door frame corners, removing the whole roller assemblies/frame corners. Then reassembling the frame with the new roller/corner assemblies and re-installing the screen material. In future the new rollers can be popped out without screen frame disassembly.

    Might roller issues be the reason behind an uneven screen door that won't stay on its track? The roller on the top right part of the screen won't stay connected to the track. Screen is slightly lopsided.

    Thanks for confirming, through your own tremendous difficulties, that this screen door roller design is complete garbage. Whomever originally designed the screen door wheel has earned a spot right next to Sisyphus in Greek Hell. Congrats, though, on getting the wheel in the now-bent-and twisted screen door on your fourth try! I am on my 24th and my screen door looks like it was torn down, run over by an SUV, burned in a fire, and left to rot on an unused patio for sixteen years.

    So tighting the adjustment screw makes the wheel more firm or less loose? Kinda meaning keep the screws loose till the screen is on the track, then tighten up the screws?

    • @silveraudio74
      @silveraudio74  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      each model is different... but you will quickly see if tightening or loosing raises or lowers. just gotta work slow and use your wits.

  • @a.b.5925
    @a.b.5925 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the info , it at least let me know what I was dealing with. Besides the roller popping out upon re assembly. The housing on one of the old wheels is caught behind the lip where the aluminum was folded over to make the bottom seem of the screen door and I can't seem to push it back far enough to get it out from behind the lip. I had to stop and come in for a few minutes before I took a saw to it. I'm reasonably sure that it would cost a hundred bucks or more for that little tantrum so I will let it go until I'm not so frustrated . I agree with the comment about this being an idiot design .

      The part includes the "bracket" and wheel. Usually I go to the store and look over the available parts when I'm unsure of how EXACTLY to fix something. Often times I learn a little something more i that process that gives me confidence. Take a couple pics of what you're trying to fix and take it with you too
