I have studied psychology in uni so I know about Jung’s theory, shadow work is always something I have stayed away from not just because I think it should be done with a trained professional but also because if you have true horrors in your life (as I have) I think it would just lead someone to a tunnel of depth and despair Which could end up being very bad, I wish people who rave about shadow work would coincided this before suggesting it as it could be very damaging for some people! Thank you for the great visualisation exercise! I will be going into my garden tonight and do that! Sending lots of love xxx
@Kat Nel very true! I just think that the walls we put up in our mind to help us deal with difficult things are sometimes best left there to protect us!
Agree, alway cast a circle for the highest good seen & unseen. Grow my own sage, dry, bundle & burn. Nothing like grounding with bare feet on the earth or my favorite place- the beach. I find just walking barefoot on the beach walking in the shallows of the sea, grounds me & takes away any negative tension " shadow" issues. After all we are spirit, soul & body. The neighbours might look at me as weird while they're in their welly boots lol! I just don't care! I do me !
In my opinion I think witches use the phrase "shadow work" for many various things and topics and it means different things to different folks 😏 most people use it as a topic to simply help others through their own individual darkness which I think is thoughtful and kind but to each their own right ✌️😎😁ty for all the info ...
I struggle with the whole idea of shadow work and I think you have verbalized my hesitation perfectly. It’s one thing to work through a bad day or a particularly challenging patch of life. Also, I’m all for self-improvement and my personal library can attest to my dedication to such. But more and more, I’m seeing people turn to “shadow work” and sometimes I wonder if it is because of the abusive cost of mental healthcare or maybe the stigma. It is somewhat fashionable to be doing shadow work these days as well. I just worry that some might go without needed medical attention.
Hi Ginny. I am pleased to see you address this. And I agree with you. I think the whole "Shadow Work" thing that I've seen many TH-cam-er's stress is not the best idea. A licensed professional therapist "LPT" is what is needed for trauma. Love your content! Blessings!
I typically use this type of work for things I have trouble getting past or finding the obstacles that keeps me from building my strengths. Asking why, what bothers me about it things, etc. and putting it to paper helps think it through thoroughly as I write, instead of just arguing with my own thoughts. Then I can let it stew a day and read it with fresh eyes and hopefully a new perspective.
Shadow work can be as simple as dealing with ur jealousy issues, or resentments. Or why u feel the way u do regarding a topic that triggers. Why u pretend to be happy when ur not. Its self analysis of ur flaws & fears. Balance my emotions.. even the crappy ones. Moon phases & Astrology can be of help. Ultimately, its an inside job. Self empowerment thru self knowledge.
Huh, I feel like the videos I have seen in our community on shadow work break it down so well and always mentions the need to work with a therapist. But maybe I have just seen good ones. I am a huge fan of disclaimers with truth like what you shared- doctors are for physical health. But I do think there are some great videos on the witch term shadow work.
I think Shadow work should be used with proper psychiatric care. I don't think you should substitute shadow work for mental illness treatment, but I do think it is a great tool to go along with a psychiatrist and psychologist. I found it very helpful and pointing out things that were in my past that I did not even realize had an effect on me. Now stuff that even my psychologist and therapists could not work out of me and my subconscious So I do find it a helpful tool but I do not think that it should be a replacement. Please please please witchcraft is not a replacement for mental health issues nor physical health issues. And never ever self-diagnosed or self-cure using shadow work
I view shadow work one does alone is best in tandem with also working with a professional therapist. I recognize that the long darkness of Winter is a common time that the Witches in America designate as "Shadow Work" time. "Trendy" I believe. To me Shadow Work is a year-round and as needed endeavor. Thank you for your insightful video.
From my understanding, Shadow work on its most basic level is delving into, exploring, and healing trauma, mental and emotional negativity, and even mental illness. I think basic forms of self-care and personal spiritual healing practices can be a form of shadow work; but really delving into trauma and mental illness should be guided and done alongside a therapist or other professional. It's the safest option for both the self and others around you. I have personally been developing my own "shadow work" practices alongside my trauma therapy for s.a. with my therapist. It includes journaling, body awareness and body meditations, and grounding practices, and of course talk therapy.
I’m pretty new 😬 to all this and have considered shadow work more in line with looking within to my moon sign and what it offers the rest of my being. My focus has always been on my sun sign. Combining the two has been quite illuminating.
I’m confused on where this information came from or if maybe there is just honestly different versions/definitions of shadow work depending on certain things…but this is absolutely not what I’ve ever known shadowwork to be? I’ve never heard anyone, whether in the spiritual community or other communities, explain or describe shadowwork in this way EVER.??
Is it possible to somehow trigger an accidental or automatic shadow work process, where you were not planning on it but your own shadow shows itself taking you by surprise and somehow you already intuitively know what to do with it? I feel like its something I am experiencing these days in my own life. Just curious. Thanks!

Not sure what you are doing is technically shadow work, but it sounds very helpful x
I just realized how protective and cleansing the devil and Ace of swords are when worked together!

I think the term shadow work is misunderstood -according to my psychotherapist relation anyway.
You've made these definitions so easy!
Glad you think so!
Great video ginny, seems to be a trendy word in the community lately. Blessings 🤎
