  • Stonemason Brooks Burleson talks about the baby mockingbird that he's raising. The mockingbird has plenty of other birds to emulate as he accompanies Brooks to work at Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University in Durham, N.C. Brooks ended up taking the bird to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, which is what the law requires. To learn more about birds and nature, consider taking a class or tour at Duke Gardens. Information: gardens.duke.edu .

I fed one for a month and let it out yesterday. It looked like it was ready to go : learned how to eat on its own. I hope it will survive

Mealworms seem like a good thing to get a baby mockingbird started off with... something easy to put in its mouth, easy to swallow, and easy to digest. Soaked dog food or cat food (while it works okay), is tricky to give unless you put it in a syringe-like applicator to put in the bird's mouth. (i've seen another video of it being done on a different type of baby bird).

I’m right there now.. two fell out of their nest due to high winds... they’re doing great.. mom and dad dive bomb us while we tend to the chicks... and the parents still feed them.. I think we are on a good course
