Never separate them, or bring a female into the home, just the smell could set them off. There are 2 pigs being given away in my area, where both have lost their cagemate/brother, and reading up, it's seems like they can suddenly turn and it usually turn deadly.
so sad it didnt work out :( this makes me very grateful that my piggie boys are pretty calm. i am prepared for the worst though. i hope Winston is feeling better!
Don't know if you see any comments from older videos, but I wanted to let you know that I am glad you have this video. One thing I will say, is that I had a petco piggie and she had a lot of issues and so I worked hard at getting her a friend. She was a werewolf skinny and I knew that she needed a young, even baby skinny for a bonding to work as she was strong dominant. I found her friend at a rescue, she was 3 mo. and my Harriet was about 16-17 mo. at the time. When I bonded, it was extremely intense right from the beginning. I kept the faith, followed the rules as I watched your bonding and others and even when they went into their home, it took a good two weeks. Once Harriet was trying to squish Clementine in her tunnel and so even a lot of two ways went out the door, but the funny thing was, they snuggled together starting the first night and to this day, even when they have their moments. they are more like sisters. Thank you for educating on bonding!
When I bonded my first to pigs back before I have 19 of them, I put the second one in their little play pen - NOT THEIR CAGE! And I put a tunnel for them to go through in it and they were so happy that they got stuck in the tunnel but they were okay! And nothing/ no one was hurt!
Why not try neutering your pigs and maybe getting them a girlfriend. I have a male and female pair up top and they're just having a great time always. I feel like my male Tommy is a happy-go-lucky pig now and is happier now more than ever. I tried making a trio with my two other boys but it didn't work. And my other two boys bond is starting to break too so I might have to get them neutered as well. Which I'm thinking of doing the same for them . I know the stress of it because I've upgraded their cage I've done it all and still nothing. I'm just tired of the fighting and bickering back and forth I feel like they would do better with female pairing. Good luck Austin I believe in you.
I feel so extremely lucky I bonded my first boys a few months ago and since then they’ve had no aggression even first meeting they only tried to hump and squeak at each other, they get on so well they’ll are always pop Corning together 🥺 but you’re the reason I learnt more about bonding before I did it so thank you x
Oof wow, that was stressful!! Sorry you had such a rough day, boy pigs can be emotionally draining :( I'm a veterinary tech who works mostly in Emergency, and moving forward I would definitely recommend keeping a 2% Chlorhexidine solution and some empty 3 or 6cc syringes on hand. Salt water is painful on open wounds and not an effective disinfectant in comparison. Dilute the chlorhex until pale blue and use the syringe to gently flush the wounds. Should be able to pick up both at a feed store (TSC, Agway, etc). Wish you luck moving forward. Neuter may be a viable option, there are a lot of vets in SE PA who are very familiar treating pigs!
I really feel for you Austin. You cannot please everyone (humans) and it is so easy for people who are commenting saying ''you should have done this'' They ate your pigs and YOU know your pigs best and your instinct was right the 1st time. I was rather separate before blood was drawn and risk a pairing than risk a pigs life. Some pigs can be seriously affected from a vicious attack and will not bond to any future partner. Just follow your instinct like you was doing and dont let anyone else try to pressure you into doing something different, while they sit at home typing on a keyboard. xxxxx
Had to go to the emergency room and get stiches after trying bonding pigs. I tried stopping them with towels and one of em jumped on my hand and bit me so hard i needed 6 stiches bcs of it. Bonding is so sad when the pigs dont match together...
@@ThePigRoom Yeah good to use more than one towels around your hand cuz jesus you really dont expect how strong their teeth are. The entire hospital was laughing at me when i told them i got bit by a guinea pig.😭😂
Minya, we had a baby guinea pig try and born with a little bit older piggy and they were already in a pair. We tried one at a time. It didn’t work out. There’s two dominant pigs. We didn’t even get dad second pig so yeah, I’ve never had a female piggy, I’ve got a solo pig and he’s very happy
I experienced this with my dogs, both males from the same litter. It broke my heart because I loved both of them, in the end I had to rehome the more social one. 💔
I have 2 female guinea pigs 1 is 5 yrs old that I bought a few years back. Cage mate passed a little over a year ago and thought it would be great to get her a friend. Adopted the other which is 1 yrs old and I have tried several times to bond them but same result lashing out, a lot of teeth chatter and a few tornados, tried baths and then the blood was drawn and said that's it as they will have to live separately next to each other and they are ok with that. I love all of your video's and piggies . Definitely gives me more ideas and inspiration. I’m sorry the bonding didn’t work out but I’m excited to see what you’ve got planned next!
Bonding can be soooo stressful. I am very fortunate to have a trio of male guinea pigs that get along (which I know is rare!) But they need about twice the minimum cage size - 21 square feet. Once while cleaning their cage, I put them in a smaller basket altogether, and one drew blood. I felt terrible; thankfully they've gotten along well since - but they're always separated when I clean the cage!
Bunnies at least, have extremely good memory. If two have fought bad and hurt each other, I’ve found that the odds that they will be able to be bonded in the future is slim.
Hi Austin, sorry to hear that the bonding process with males did not work out. I had a very similar situation with with 2 of males(Herbie and Hugo). I ended up getting both of them neutered and they lived side by side in a cc cage with divider down the middle and they got along through the bars. In October 2021, Herbie passed away so Hugo was left alone with no friend.( forgot to mention that I have 11 guinea pigs). One of my pair females, I managed to bond Hugo with and they get along well. They been together still October 2021 to today and beyond. I would recommend you to try and get one of your single males neutered and wait 6-8 weeks after the surgery to introduce them to female guinea pig to see if that will work. Sorry again for the bonding process not working. I felt the same way when bonding guinea pigs it can be nervous time and process. Don't worry about thing , one day your single males have a friend together or through the bars but the most important friend they have is you as you are kind and caring and loving towards them. Hopefully what I have recommended helps . And all the love from me and my piggies from the UK.
Yikes. I got bit and it got infected in a day and I had to get surgery to relieve the pressure. Glad you're okay, bonding is so scary. Terrified of my girls right now ):
Hi 👋. You were sure-fire-quick separating the boys! Well done on your first aid 👏. You are absolutely right in saying piggies aren't kiddies pets. I would hate that to happen had a child put two piggies together that had never met then go out to play!! 🥶 Hope the boys are OK and are healing after their battle 🙏 And your hand too, ouch! 😫 Keep up the good work and keep Safe.
i have a question. so i have 3 girls and all from a different litter. my two we’re bonded then i introduced my third they do show some dominance but my 2 girls never really let her eat she get some but should i be syringe feeding her water and critical care?
How is your cage setup? Enough space, at least 1 hidey per pig with 2 exits and multiple places for generous amounts of hay and veggies/salad in different spots of the cage (1 per pig) did the trick for my boys after I adopted them. 1 pig was completely fixed on resources and he needed lots of time to understand that he was not in danger of starving. It took them several months to settle after a traumatic time at the shelter and now the aggressive pig is actually the submissive one and there are no more fights about food 😊 Also making sure you do not create deadends for any pig to get stuck might help avert aggression.
@@Shishiochan i have a kavee cage 5 by 2 3 hideys a hay box three bowls and 2 water bottles she gets food at night but not really during the day unless i put some in her hide. thank you for the suggestions!!
@@mia.thomas05 fingers crossed it helps. You can weigh her regularly to make sure she doesn't lose weight. And offering her some veggie during cuddle time is surely not an issue 😊
When I first got pigs, everything I looked up said boys and girls are pretty much the same and both are great for beginner pig owners. We ended up with girls and I am so glad we did, because boys are definitely more of a challenge in most cases.
I think because you got the piggies that have been in bad situations, I was told that they are just like humans it causes a mental mess up in the mind!! Just treat them with a lot of love!! And try to spend a little time with them and with time it should cause a healing!!
I admittedly avoided getting boy pigs because of the potential dominance issues, so I have a group of 4 girls :) I mean, I've had rumble strutting but no actual fighting.
No fr. I have three boys and the chances of them all getting along was so low it’s literally a miracle they all love each other. Idk how lucky I could be twice tho lmao so I’ll probably never do all boars again
I totally get it. I got a male guineapig from a friend that neglected him so of course i couldnt choose a girl. After awhile i got another pig to bond the boys (at the time i did not realize the dominance issues with boys) so after quantine i put them together and they got into a serious fight and started to tornado. 2 weeks ago i tried again and the pair worked out. Sometimes it never works and it takes alot of patience, i was lucky.
That was my plan at first aswell. I had 2 girls to begin with. Decided I needed another pig with them and couldn’t find any single female for adoption, but I found a single neutered male. So then I had 2 girls and 1 boy. Then I felt I needed more pigs as I had the space and there are so many needing homes. Planned on adopting a trio of females. Then I fell in love with these two older boys. So I guess you can say the all girl plan didn’t work out lol. I have 2 girls and 3 boys, but I love them all so much. I haven’t had a fight ever. I have had some rumbling (mostly between one of my girls and the neutered boy) but other than that everyone lives in harmony
Winston and Ezra was my best guess to be bonded ☹️. It was really stressful. I have 3 single boys and I wouldn't want to pass through something like that we witness. Congrats on trying though
I kinda thought that Winston and an other playful pig would work also you helped me see how boys can be . I am just a 9 who waches the pig room and guinea pig Jungle and gives my pig the best life I possible give them.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Have you tried the method they use for bunnies where they are in a tight space first until they're used to each other? they put them in a carrier and take them in the car so they're too busy thinking about the car and stress. Mainly because in bigger spaces they claim territory.
What about neutering one of your lone boars and putting him to the girl group or getting him a girl? Instead of getting another lone boy and then realizing he doesn't get along with the other boars you could give one of your boys a harem. In our local rescues they always pair them up (female x neutered male) or will let a boar have a harem and that usually does the trick. I mean, that's one less lonely pig.
Heh. I have to wear leather gloves when trying to bond rabbits Bc of the risk. I’ve had one latch on to my hand. Barely ever does a bite not draw blood. They did that exact thing when bonding. I spent probably an hour doing the bond for it to fail. It was unneutered male mating though 😅 so that’s probably what happened
their bites hurt so bad like i feel is our fingers would be smaller they could bite them off. which is why when i have guest my male bruno bites so i warn keep hands away from his butt or lower face he only likes head.
I just rescued a 2 week old guinea pig from a pet store I'm aware she needs a friend I have another guinea pig and I'm curious how to introduce them as I don't want the baby hurt could you do a video explaining it or is it the same as any other guinea pig bonding?
I sorry the bond did not work and i like that you showed us the reality of bonding guinea pigs. Great vid as always sending lot sof love from my pig to yours
Oh wow they really went for it between Winston and Ezra!! That must’ve been super stressful omg. I got nipped for the first time doing nail clips the other day and that hurt like a mf. I have three boys and it really is a miracle it works and I’m probably never going to do all boars again. It really is sooooo stressful for us as piggy parents to see them go at it like that and to think they’re unhappy or uncomfortable. Keeping you and your piglets in my thoughts
I swear bonding is more stressful than exam week. I bonded my two sisters with a neutered boy, it was successful but man I almost lost all my hair from stress. Every rumble and chase was so stressful. I had done so much research and couldn’t have been more prepared but oh. My. Goodness. I hope I don’t have to do it again any time soon 😞🤚
This was stressful for me to watch so I can only imagine how it was for you. I think you handled it very well, I would’ve been balling my eyes out!!! Im feeling a pit in my stomach watching this I’m so sorry:/ I know you must feel disappointed but maybe it’s for the best! Try to think positive in this situation. Again, thanks for sharing!
idk if you tried this, but when I bonded my boys, i had different hides and such for them to space out more and hide in to feel comfortable. I also gave them so veggies and some toys each of them liked. This helped and my boys bonded pretty fast because they had things they liked and were comfortable with in the cage. They were able to get away when they wanted and none of them felt territorial over anything! update: you did add veggies, but i would suggest to do the hides and toys next time you do want to do a bonding!
Tbh in most cases it’s not good and I don’t really recommend that. It can be good after some times if the hides are totally new and there are no smells on them.
I have 4 males(Herbert,Hampton,Herschel, and Harley). The first 3 were bonded, then my daughter bought Harley and rushed to put him in with the others and not only did I have to separate Harley in another pen,but it broke the bond of the other three☹️😭They still live together in a 2x7 with a 2x2 double ramp loft(of course boss pig,Hampton ,claimed this loft as his own and the other piggies know not to go up there). There’s just a different atmosphere in the pen now with the 3 boys.No biting or blood 🩸 Just not as friendly 🙁 So that’s my boar experience so far(my daughter got them when the lockdowns were starting and then she went to college ,leaving me with adorable floofiness. I just wish I knew then what I know now about proper care, etc. from Saskia,Scotty,Squeak Dreams and more on TH-cam.) P.S. Sorry for rambling!🤭
I know you have a lot of pigs and costs add up, but I got my males neutered so they can be with the females. Luckily the bondings went well for my two herds and everything worked out. I suggest you try neutering your boys and put one male in each girl herd, maybe?
Doing harems for them would be actually good. But only one male and for example 2 females. Males tends to be better in harems too (sometimes one female is annoyed with male haha).
I know with dogs if they have a fight their cortisol levels elevate even after the fight and the recommendation is to keep them on their own for a day or two after. I wonder if it's the same with guinea pigs and if Ezra had elevated cortisol from the first combination leading into the second
I know this is an old video but I have a boar who’s pretty aggressive with other pigs. People have suggested getting him neutered but would doing so change his personality? He’s got such a big one and everyone loves him the way he is.

Jees that is so dang stressful. I have two male guinea pigs that are brothers so they're bonded but I hope their bond never breaks because jees, that stressed me out. I'm sorry it didn't work out 😬. But kudos to you for giving it a shot and wanting the best for them!
Never separate them, or bring a female into the home, just the smell could set them off.
There are 2 pigs being given away in my area, where both have lost their cagemate/brother, and reading up, it's seems like they can suddenly turn and it usually turn deadly.
the second pig bonding time lapse they look like snakes slithering around- also thanks for showing this raw footage💕
Good heavens you are one beautiful guinea guru, it's almost blinding tbh
Omg, that was so stressful to watch, thank you for the sharing the video, it’s super informative
Excellent bonding video! I'm so sorry to hear your piggies didn't work out together!
I’m sorry the bondings didn’t work out but I’m excited to see what you’ve got planned for vision
so sad it didnt work out :( this makes me very grateful that my piggie boys are pretty calm. i am prepared for the worst though. i hope Winston is feeling better!
I don’t even have Guinea pigs
But I just love your channel! Alyssa brought me to your channel y’all are the best ❤️❤️🐖🥔
❤️
I was very lucky with my guinea pigs cause I've only ever had 2 so far, both males, and they hit it off right off the bat, they are amazing together
Not going to lie, I flinched hard once you got nabbed through the towel. But like you said, boys will just be boys and you can only hope for the best.
Just follow your instinct like you was doing and dont let anyone else try to pressure you into doing something different, while they sit at home typing on a keyboard. xxxxx
Absolutely this can hurt their socialisation skills and confidence!!!
I loved the video and am so glad you share the reality! My guinea pigs say WHEEK! To yours :)
Sending love! Looking forward to the vision update! 😛😛😛
It was almost as if somebody said, “Let’s get ready to rumble.”
Had to go to the emergency room and get stiches after trying bonding pigs. I tried stopping them with towels and one of em jumped on my hand and bit me so hard i needed 6 stiches bcs of it. Bonding is so sad when the pigs dont match together...
Wow, that must have hurt! Wouldn’t be my first time that I’ve gotten hit. Thankfully no stitches (yet lol)
@@ThePigRoom Yeah good to use more than one towels around your hand cuz jesus you really dont expect how strong their teeth are. The entire hospital was laughing at me when i told them i got bit by a guinea pig.😭😂
I love your videos I just got my first Guinea pig about a month ago and your videos have really helped me!
Wheeks in between curses lol
Sounds like it’s time to get some of those crazy boys neutered!!
Hello, are your boys still in a trio? I'm curious & researching. Thanks!
My boars grew up together and now they are in their hormone/puberty time so I’m nervous about them fighting but so far nothing bad has happened
May I ask how it turned out?
Bunnies at least, have extremely good memory. If two have fought bad and hurt each other, I’ve found that the odds that they will be able to be bonded in the future is slim.
😱😱😱😱😱
I'm 10 seconds in and I'm so nervous to watch this!!
I just got two make Guinea pigs that this girl couldn’t keep. I got got blessed that they get along together 😅
Try single males with females. I think it will go much better
Hope the boys are OK and are healing after their battle 🙏
And your hand too, ouch! 😫
Keep up the good work and keep Safe.
i have a question. so i have 3 girls and all from a different litter. my two we’re bonded then i introduced my third they do show some dominance but my 2 girls never really let her eat she get some but should i be syringe feeding her water and critical care?
@@Shishiochan yes does anyone have any suggestions for a better weigher thing i have one but i need a more better one lol
I agree as well. A lot of my pigs have some rough back stories so that could explain why they are the way they are 😅
@@ThePigRoom their backgrounds unfortunetly don’t help. Pigs have good memory and they remember bad stuff that happened to them…
It’s okay I support you and your decision cuz boy piggies really are hard💖✨
😢 aww
1:31
I never let it get to blood drawn anymore. One of my boys almost lost any eye when I did.
I kinda thought that Winston and an other playful pig would work also you helped me see how boys can be . I am just a 9 who waches the pig room and guinea pig Jungle and gives my pig the best life I possible give them.😊😊😊😊😊😊
I'd like to recommend you have a dust pan you can shove between them giving you more control.
Is your Guinea pig OK?? What did you do to clean up your guinea pig bite mark??
Have you tried the method they use for bunnies where they are in a tight space first until they're used to each other? they put them in a carrier and take them in the car so they're too busy thinking about the car and stress. Mainly because in bigger spaces they claim territory.
It’s not the thing with piggies. It can get nasty as fuck. At first you need to give them bigger space and than making it smaller.
I think that’s what he’s going to do with vision
I’m due to bond 8 girls on Saturday/Sunday dreading it 🤦♀️ my last one was the bad one. 5 bonding I think I have done now xxx
yup my boy pig bit the crap outta me my towel fell out 😩 wont be bonding mines no time soon
I think it was necessary to keep in the clips with the pigs fighting and me cursing during it cause it’s just the reality of it!
@@ThePigRoom yeah I think so to
Oh wow they really went for it between Winston and Ezra!!
Piggies might be small, but those teeth are powerful!!
I WOULD love to know where you got your fleece liners, I’m new
This was stressful for me to watch so I can only imagine how it was for you. I think you handled it very well, I would’ve been balling my eyes out!!! Im feeling a pit in my stomach watching this I’m so sorry:/ I know you must feel disappointed but maybe it’s for the best! Try to think positive in this situation. Again, thanks for sharing!
Me too my two male guinea pigs do not get along. I had to separate them. 😔
idk if you tried this, but when I bonded my boys, i had different hides and such for them to space out more and hide in to feel comfortable.
You should not use hides ever when bonding
This made me so nervous 😢
Wow ... I have never seen a pig bite so hard as to get launched up like that . I'm sorry buddy I know that had to hurt
There’s just a different atmosphere in the pen now with the 3 boys.No biting or blood 🩸 Just not as friendly 🙁
So that’s my boar experience so far(my daughter got them when the lockdowns were starting and then she went to college ,leaving me with adorable floofiness. I just wish I knew then what I know now about proper care, etc. from Saskia,Scotty,Squeak Dreams and more on TH-cam.)
P.S. Sorry for rambling!🤭
This just happened to me. Last night I bonded 2 of my boys and they drew blood. I started crying and I was terrified
It’s so scary seeing our babies fight 😞
I bled pretty badly from her but she is so sweet she was just scared xxx
It was a an all female bonding and she was aggressive but it all worked out xx
I know you have a lot of pigs and costs add up, but I got my males neutered so they can be with the females. Luckily the bondings went well for my two herds and everything worked out. I suggest you try neutering your boys and put one male in each girl herd, maybe?
Isn't it only one group of girls now? I miss some videos here and there.
Doing harems for them would be actually good. But only one male and for example 2 females. Males tends to be better in harems too (sometimes one female is annoyed with male haha).
is jumping normal when trying to bond guineapig?
I know with dogs if they have a fight their cortisol levels elevate even after the fight and the recommendation is to keep them on their own for a day or two after. I wonder if it's the same with guinea pigs and if Ezra had elevated cortisol from the first combination leading into the second
I know this is an old video but I have a boar who’s pretty aggressive with other pigs. People have suggested getting him neutered but would doing so change his personality? He’s got such a big one and everyone loves him the way he is.
Nope that's a myth it won't change his personality!
