    This point has been told a million times before but I must admit the way you told it was Excellent! A to do list on a calendar is a great example of my point. Cheers!

      Absolutely Tim, there are YT channels out there dedicated to productivity and motivation (a few that I watch) and I am simply applying it to my work and photography to get the most out of my time.

    So glad to find someone who leaves the what 3 words details! Just stumbled upon your channel and it’s ideal. You have some wicked content!

      Thank you, and yes I started using what3words a few years back. There are only a handful of my videos that I don’t share the locations - in order to protect them from becoming too popular and ruined. Otherwise my aim is to help out other photographers should they want to visit those locations.

    I have a very LOOOONg list of things to do. Your idea of linking these with a calendar is brill. Especially with shots of full moon, ocean shots and low and high high tides that are time dependent. Bit like making a Drs. appointment, put it on your daily calendar. No excuses! Get off your bum and take some photos!

      I made this video nearly a year ago, and my list is getting longer! But this technique keeps me busy and inspired - I always have somewhere to shoot regardless of the conditions. Spending a few pounds on an app is money well spent in my opinion to stay on top of things. The amount of times I have thought of an idea, not written and it down and who knows what great ideas I haven’t seen through because of it!

    Hey Ben. You’re giving us words of wisdom to encourage us to get out more to become better photographers. All your photos are wonderful. And, I’m making plans to go out to take a couple photos to send to you since you called for them in your last video. I have been inspired by many of your past but recent videos about rolling hills and fog or mist in valleys.

      Thank you Clark, that would be great to share your work in that video. I would love to capture some really nice mist at Swanborough Hill, but that luck hasn’t coincided with any of my visits yet!

    Hi Ben, never a bad thing to never get through your to-do list, in my case it's what keeps me motivated, always being excited about the photo I haven't taken yet, just waiting for the right time when everything comes together. Over time, as you say, some things will drop off the list, and many new ideas will get added, the most important thing is to never lose that hunger for your next great shot.

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is great advice, thanks Craig. Luckily my to do list is so long that it will never be ‘done’ but as you say I have ideas that I am always adding to keep things fresh. I always have something to look forward to photographing, when the weekend comes around.

    I take photos with my smartphone when I go for my daily exercise walks. Mutual incentive for walking and practicing photography. Even started a photo project around this.

      Nice. If you visit the same place there is certainly a project there, as you could capture the same tree for example, throughout the seasons and create a Timelapse or montage of the changes throughout the year/seasons.

    In contrast, I would be happy to turn up at Brighton at any time of daylight and see what I could make of it. Any camera, any lens. 100-400 on Lumix G, 7mm fisheye on same. Overcast, Best of British Sunlight. There is something to photograph.

    Great video as per usual Ben! I need help though! Please do a video on how to get your photos to have sharp focus throughout. I am going crazy!! I have tried everything; focusing on hyperfocal distance, shutter speed much greater than 1/focal length, shooting on a tripod, mirror up/mirror down, aperture sweet spot for lense found, tried different lenses - I can't think of what else to do. My images are soft. And not just a wee bit soft, the are like 'soft soft'. I am gonna go mad! Please do a video on this. For the love of God please intervene before I loose it completely!! You are my only hope!!!

      Hello, this sounds like you need to run a few tests on your gear to make sure that everything is OK. I would suggest setting up your camera on a tripod, on a really calm day and focus on something manually (by zooming in on the screen) x10 and reviewing that image. There is a chance that your lens may not be calibrated and needs adjusting, if this is just happening on one lens that is. I don’t know what camera you have but all camera from the last decade should be giving you good results. Don’t worry about hyper focal distances until you know that you can get a sharp image of an object say 5-10 metres away, then try it by focusing on a distant landscape. Once you have that right then look at hyper focal distances and apertures etc.

    Thanks Ben for another inspirational video. I had a list of 'to dos' when I visited the UK recently, they really help focus your time and effort. I got a similar image where you get the 'Z' shapes in the landscape over near the Long Man :-) Kia Kaha

    Just so happens I am making a list for my 8 days in London 😂. Also left some time to freelance to try out different things, as you said Ben it's all about practice. A lot of my earlier career in the Fire Service was predicated on drills, understanding equipment, its limits, the flexibilities of its use and photography is similar in my opinion. I follow a wilderness Landscape photographer named Dave Morrow and his approach to his craft is extremely structured and he discusses this in a number of videos, especially when it comes to knowing your camera and equipment in order to maximise the opportunities that present themselves

    • @benharveyphotography
      @benharveyphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a relevant comparison, although photography is not as extreme as being confronted with a burning building, all the practice is not going to help you if you don’t remember your training and stay calm in the situation. It sounds stupid, but if you have the most amazing conditions unravelling in front of your camera and you are faffing around setting focus, getting your exposure and aperture correct then you will miss the moment. Shooting astro is a real challenge as you need to know how to use your camera in the dark! Regarding London, I would do exactly the same, I would figure out which locations are good for sunrise, which for sunset and set them out on a calendar and allow an element of flexibility for things to happen. Maybe have some interior shots (like the British Musuem for example) for rainy days. And of course, allow some time to meet up with Ben :-)

      I will give you a little motivation, pack your camera bag the night before, batteries charged etc, and have it in the way (right in the hallway or lounge) ready to go early the next day. If you don’t go then you have wasted your time packing the bag.

      It's much easier in the summer even though the sunrise is much earlier. Summer mornings are worth getting up early for whether you are taking photos or not.
