@@cricketfilms1879 I think those were just examples of things you might hear about on proper coverage (or Jomez). Another example was Paul McBeth - I was watching the 15 minutes highlights on day one, and saw Paul was 7 under after 15, so looking like being very much on lead card. Nothing was said or shown about Paul, but when the final scores came up he wasn't even on the first page. I had to go look at scores to find he had completely blown up on hole 17 - why did they not show that or even mention it on the highlights?

DGN is a business like any other business. I love disc golf and enjoy watching live coverage. I also appreciate all the hard work DGN crew does and paying $13 for most of the season and the $20 for a little of the season is how I show my appreciation. I know it can’t be cheap or easy to do what they do. Thanks DGN.
I play for fun, love the sport. I would be willing to tolerate some ads but I won't pay for coverage. Baseball did the same. Used to watch games on local TV. Now it's all paywall and subscription. Maybe they are making millions, I dunno, but it's not from me. So the PGDA can do as it pleases, but I'll bet I am not the only that cannot be coerced into paying to watch.
the whole thing is such a racket. DGN/DGPT and the PDGA are all in bed together trying to get as much money as they can. im so done with hearing "grow the sport." More like growing your fucking wallets. and of course they had to buy a piece of Jomez so now Jomez is apart of that racket.

DGN leadership has a foolproof plan to take PDGA fandom to the next level.
1. Charge a small demographic to access a small amount of content.
2. Saturate the paid content with paid advertisements.
3. Consistently fail to deliver quality and reliability.
4. Then charge MORE for majors.

Limiting views limits any chance of advertising growing properly. Squeezing the DG community for $ for what used to be free and replacing it with video quality that looks like it was made to be rented from behind the beaded curtain is the issue. It makes the sport look unprofessional and smaller than it is.
Not to mention that if all viewing happens on a subscription based platform with only disc golf, no one will ever again find disc golf content unless they specifically look for it.
Been saying this all season. We’re in a shrinking moment in disc golf history. Manufacturers are gonna consolidate, content creators are gonna run out of money, pro tour is gonna shrink, elite players will find their brands and become the face of the next chapter of disc golf.
People are whining because the COVID boom is over and they can’t make a living off the niche sport like they hoped.
Disc golf is still awesome. Local scenes are still fantastic. Pro disc golf isn’t going to have enough money to go around - until outside money (e.g. Nike) invests.
i think the sport will be just fine once consolidation happens. but it will have to happen, you are totally right. this many brands cannot be profitable. and we have already seen the process begin with House of Discs owning 5 brands now (Latitude, Westside, Dynamic, Kastaplast, and Discmania)
dgpt has done little, if anything to grow the sport. squeezing a bunch of mostly broke ass disc golfers and putting everything behind a paywall will never increase viewership.
DGN doesn't understand the internet or their market audience, which is low income/heavily online...fork in the road in 2021-22 they had a chance to corner the live disc golf youtube market, which would've payed off over time, instead their leader's ego chose the wrong path and now they have no money AND no audience...at least if they went hard with youtube access/coverage they would have a large audience base with a healthy growth rate which is extremely valuable even with low amounts of direct income coming in...easily 1 million subs at this point if they went that route, instead they have an embarrassing 193k subs
I get your argument but the bottom line is the fans are saying they wont watch or pay. If something isnt done the advertisers will walk soon after. Give the rights to an entity with money for a few years. Hopefully the really money grubbing DGN and PDGA people will be gone and a legit service with a product above minimum viability might appear.
This video also reminded me to also stop paying DGN and I kind of miss the world of disc golf before all of the BS
The upset over upgrading to DGN pro is a little silly tbh. I’ve been subbed to DGN standard with the PDGA discount ($6.99/month), watched the free 1st round on TH-cam, missed the 2nd round and just watched highlights, upgraded to DGN pro today for $3.50 to watch 3rd and final round coverage. And if I’m not wrong, I believe I can downgrade back to standard after this weekend, so I basically paid $3.50 to watch USDGC. If not, I’m not gunna be upset over paying an extra $6 for a month of DGN Pro 🤷♂️

to switch to pro it cost me 6 cents.(pro-rated or something)....then 12.99 instead of the 5.99....so all and all it cost me $7.06 to watch the USDGC because ill switch plans as soon as its over

I've been with DGN for 5 years. It's had 3 price hikes in that time. I canceled this past week and I'm not sure I'll be back.
I will never pay for live coverage of any kind. And I never will. I'd pay to watch the event in person as a spectator, but I'm not gonna pay extra to watch from my couch.

I probably wasn't going to renew my DGN subscription anyway, but, yeah, no USDGC coverage ticked me off and is the nail in the coffin for me.
I just don't understand why the Jomez coverage is 2 weeks delayed. I don't subscribe to DGN mainly because I live in a different time zone (New Zealand). Any final day tournament coverage is for me always on a Monday morning to early afternoon and like most people I work on a Monday so can't watch it. So my son and I will watch and enjoy Jomez post-produced coverage (usually Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night our time). We can normally avoid spoilers for a day or so, but not for two weeks. I've been watching the highlights and following some of the scores on PDGA live for US DGC. I might watch the Jomez when it comes out, but will be less likely to as I will know what has happened.
Send the sport backwards. PLEASE!
Everything is a subscription these days. I’ve canceled a lot of mine this year. There’s no chance that I entertain DGN if there are so many complaints about quality and service. But I am subscribed to this channel. 😊
Businesses can do what they want - the market will decide. No problem with that, it's all an experiment, might work, might not. The successful ones just happen to make more good decisions than bad.
This does not work in a Monopoly. The market can't decide if they don't have a choice. The only decision is to stop supporting competitive disc golf, which sadly, I think is the future.

There is a massive "market" of sports entertainment content providers and consumers. Monopoly is a legal concept. The potential failure of DGN is not related to the concept of monopoly, it's related to perceived entertainment value in the non-necessity marketplace of sport.
Love what you guys do ... I sorta cheated DGN ' I purchased the Pro scrib ' for a month at $20 and watch World's .. then I paid for it again to get USDGC and timed it so I could see the tour championship .. so paid 40 $ for the top events .... eitherway you guys keep killing it .....
I`ve been disc`en for 50 years, watch`en Gomez Pro for 2 years. I am now on SSI, so Free is my only option. I spend money on new discs, and I put 2 bucks in the slot (most times), to help with the lawn mower fuel. Sponsors: Disc Makers, Basket Makers, Shoe Company, Clothing, Rain Gear, Towles, Umbrellas, Coffee, Beer, Weed, Snacks and Drinks, Local Tourism Board, etc. That is our budget. The courses are full, the sport is growing. The budget will grow slow and steady. Please no pay walls or sponsored by Pfizer. Now, watch this shot, off of the tree, and into the pond... Yippee !!!

The pros get nothing from any coverage. Saying that A tiers wouldn't have a purse is ridiculous. All payouts are based on entry fees and some cash added. Thats one of the worst takes on pay to view coverage. The tournaments would still run fine without it. Except there would be some people not lining their pockets from it. Pay to view is and always will be a money grab.
So where do you think that "some cash added" is from?
If you’re a pdga member, the pro subscription is only $13…. If you can’t afford 13 bucks a month you might want to rethink your life’s choices
If they were to ASK the fans/viewers to donate. An honest sharing of all perceived $ problems they wish to fix. I'll be honest, If I don't see something, I will feorget about it. This is just the same way as I forget about good songs when my playlist changes. This may push away any possible potentials. I like the argument on advertising needing seen to fulfill it's purpose. At the end if the day, this sport requires fans to be anything for the fan's. So, make it a private club... Or include us, so we can possibly help eachother be happy with it.

I’ve been an annual subscriber to DGN since it started. All of the complaining from the community kind of makes laugh. DiscGolf is still a fringe sport and it will take the community as much as the pro tour and PDGA to continue to grow it.
As long as disc golf remains a novelty sport, it’s seems pretty certain that folks who want to watch live coverage are going to have to cough up money to pay for coverage. I can watch PGA coverage for nothing on network TV, but that’s because companies like Wells Fargo are willing to sponsor said events. I don’t see anything close to that for PDGA events. Heck, they rarely get a mention even on ESPN.
Grow the sport? When? It’s been decades now. But I’ll keep waiting…
Why do disc golfers expect FREE viewing, no commercials, perfect commentary, next level graphics and discount codes for their next purchase. These are the same people that complained about their participation awards.

I don't expect it. It's okay if the DGPT decides to charge for the pros. I'll watch something else. Jomez could cover local amateur tournaments and if it was Jeremy and Uli doing the commentary, I'd watch that.
Because what we have now is worse than what we used to have pre-2020 when it WAS free. If it costs money, fine. But it should be at least as good as it was 5 years ago if they want to start charging us money we didn’t use to have to pay and be happy about it.

@@JM-tb8zx pre2020 wasnt live coverage. The USDGC was behind a paywall with Innova doing the coverage at higher costs to the consumer for 1 weekend. So how is now worse?
I'm going to laugh out loud in a few years when there is no disc golf coverage at all because DGN goes under taking Jomez with them and no major investors/advertisers from outside step in because most disc golfers just wanting coverage for free. They know they can't make money so they'll just stay away.
I don’t expect it free. I pay for DGN. I just dislike locking Tournaments behind a higher paywall when you are already paying and for what ? We are heading into a 3 month period of no events which we still pay for with nothing to see.
i think DGN could really calm everyone down if they made Jomez available for the standard tier. if they dont wanna give people live coverage for the European Open and USDGC, they should at least be giving them the ability to watch Jomez. blacklisting euro open and USDGC from Jomez is perhaps the dumbest shit ever. DGN buying a piece of Jomez has been the worst shit ever. really wish they didnt sell out

none of this would have had to happen if the DGPT would have just changed their arbitrary trans rule. that would have been free, and saved them all that lawsuit money, and not forced all these changes to keep them alive. but they wanted to die on that hill, and its killing coverage of the sport, great job guys. and as someone who ran a successful disc golf channel for years, the DGN also destroyed most local coverage.

USDGC is not a dgpt event. Dgn has been contracted by USDGC to provide coverage for the event: its bonus coverage.
Im not saying it's right, but USDGC has always been paywalled. It was the first disc golf tournament you could buy on DVD and innova has always charged people for the privilege. Nothing new is happening this year other than the standardization of DGPT. But DGPT is only forcing this tournament to cost extra because it costs extra to have the rights to it. Don't blame DGN for what is obviously Innova intentionally paywalling one of the best tournaments of the year just because they always have.

I've been watching since DiscGolfPlanetTV and have paid for DGN off and on for a few years till a year or so ago, and almost paid for Pro just for this month to watch the USDGC ,but feels like I have seen this course played enough that I'm not gonna see much new to me, combined with the poor quality and other issues, just not worth it. If I had disposable income I probably still would though.

I do wonder if it's worth it for DGN to do a pay wall behind a pay wall. They're certainly making their already small pool of customers angry. I totally get that they have no obligation to offer free Jomez coverage for everything or even anything but this is an attack on the paying ones.
I'm just missing a tournament. Sucks that it's a major but I'll live. Loads of DGN customers are missing a tournament WHILE PAYING for the DGN product. I get why that stings especially since there's no reason for it other than "our customers will probably cave in to the pressure and pay more". Having to make these kinds of moves just reeks of DGN not having their stuff together.

I may complain about the coverage, however, in order for something to grow it needs assets to allow it to grow. Hence my subscription which isn’t monthly rather I pay yearly. Yea that’s right, I pay yearly. Crucify me.
