  • Axiology makes beauty products that are vegan, clean, and cruelty-free. Its line consists of lipsticks, crayons, and zero-waste Lip-to-Lid Balmies. The brand makes its products in Bend, Oregon, with ingredients and practices that don’t cause harm to people, animals, or the planet. All of its products contain no more than 10 ingredients, and the brand has substituted some ingredients like beeswax and palm oil with more sustainable options like sunflower wax and plum oil.
    For its color pigments, Axiology uses mostly earth-derived pigments like iron oxides and micas that are child-labor-free. The Lip-to-Lid Balmies are all individually wrapped in recycled paper and packaged in boxes that are made from 100% recycled paper waste. These boxes are sourced from a handmade-paper company in Bali that was created by women to help reduce the amount of waste on the island. The Balmies can be used on the eyes, cheeks, and lips, and the packaging can be recycled once the product is finished.

    Lipstick cases work perfectly, I have had no trouble having this product in my handbag, and I lived in South East Asia where it was always hot. There are so many different ways to store this product, even using an old lipstick, or lip balm container or a plastic tooth pick tube. Eco friendly and stainablity also relys on us as consumers thinking outside the box on what we already have and continue and store the use of these products.

      It's a good idea, @GLC Nornes but it would bring up the cost of the lipstick considerably. Adding anything between 5 to 8 dollars to carve a bamboo tube into a stick with a slider like mechanism. Which would be around 42%-64% of the cost of their lipstick. While it is not unheard of to spend that proportion of cost towards packaging, I don't think they would be able to call it a sustainable business. Good thinking though, my friend.

    • @coz7891

      @@nomaddaisy8343 Good thinking, but since you mentioned that, how about they sell the refillable cases separately, for those who want them. This allows them to gauge the interest (ie-orders) first, to see who will buy, therefore enabling them to not over manufacture.

      Well more than likely that's not entirely true if she's buying Mica at all then more than likely she is getting some from families and children and even though that sounds horrible that children would even work the truth of the matter is when they're working like this they have plenty of food their government won't step up and help their people and a lot of their people have starved to death even though I hate child labor the truth of the matter is they need food to survive and the government might say they're not going to let children work like this anymore but that's not true they're still not stepping up and making sure all of these families have food there were many of times growing up that we didn't have any food and it's very painful to starve I would rather these kids work then go through that like I said though I'm completely against it but at the same time at least they're getting food...

    Okay, I love the concept of no waste products. It has natural ingredients and cruelty free. But in this case, lipstick is exposed to the environment and not portable. Further research needs to be done for packaging. I wouldn't buy this for packaging as I use them very occassionally and them being exposed and would have to clean the surfaces where they are kept.

Once I got rid of oil based products, I was able to work on clearing up. If you keep breaking out, consider the fact that it may be due to oil based products. I know you're saying there wasn't any child labor in this but you're talkin about Bali and the truth is where you're getting your source could definitely still be child labor because these families Farm them so that their children can eat yes I'm against child labor but I'm also a realist and realize in these very poor countries that with these kids working like this they're actually able to feed themselves and have food so they definitely need to continue doing this the country needs to step up and make sure these children aren't going to starve but they're still not doing it I'm not against children doing this for their own food at all so whether you agree with me or not at least these kids aren't going hungry growing up there were many of times that we didn't have any food and it's really painful to starve so Please Don't Judge these families too harshly they really don't know any difference and I do completely understand and I guess I'm pretty much okay with them doing what they're doing because at least they're getting to eat and honestly that's all that matters if their countries not going to step up then the kids have to and that's really messed up...

    I love that Axiology isn't just looking at sustainability through the lens of recyclable packaging, which many other low-waste companies are doing. Sustainability is about the ethics of a product from cradle to grave. This includes the mining of raw ingredients, production processing, fair worker treatment, and the ability for end-users to store the product in something we all have: an old lipstick case. Please give us more videos like this, so I can learn about similar companies!

    while i like the concept of them and the fact that you can use every bit of it, it does seem like it might be a difficult to carry in your purse or makeup bag unless you kept it in that individual box. it might be nice if they had lids and some type of covering that is removable on the bottom, so they can travel better.

    • @dave9401
      @dave9401 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alyssahayes268 I'm doing a master's degree in chemistry. It's virtually impossible to have a 100% pure substance, there will always be some level of contamination (in synthesised or mined compounds). By synthesis you can minimise contamination and ensure that any contaminants will be safer than arsenic or led, etc. 🙂

    • @alyssahayes268
      @alyssahayes268 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dave9401 then as a chemist, you would know that it's all about dose. No substance is pure, but 2 solutions with a similarly negligible concentration of contaminants are effectively the same, health-wise (where "negligible" is being determined by comparison to biological effective dose safety limits).
      However, an additional potential pro of switching to synthetic raw ingredients is that it might make the end-product cheaper in the long run. But a con might be that they'd lose the marketing tactic of "natural ingredients", which greenwashed consumers tend to love, even if synthetic is oftentimes more sustainable.
      I have a minor in chemistry and B.S. in radiological engineering, where understanding relative biological effective dose is very important.

      @dave9401 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alyssahayes268 100% agree with you on the green washing.
      I'm sure you'll understand that an issue with contaminants in cosmetics is repeated dose and inhilation of powders. You must be aware of talc and its contamination by asbestos.
      Determining whether a contaminant is in a negligible amount is only possible by testing each batch of product (most companies don't do this) and even then it isn't a guarantee.
      Natural minerals and their contaminants are a safety concern where as synthesised minerals aren't (mostly true as nanoparticles are a whole different kettle of fish)

    I am so pissed off about Axiology ditching their fabulous golden lipstick and crayon packaging. Do we really have to sacrifice everything in the name of friggin climate change and woke politics? The original Axiology lipsticks and crayons looked absolutely gorgeous, but the new packaging looks like one is using the cheapest lipstick for teenagers. In cardboard that does not protect the product from moisture and other environmental influences. Highly unhygienic. Yuck. Also, such wide multi-sticks are incredibly hard to use on thinner lips, it is impossible to achieve precise application without a brush. Who takes a brush with them when they leave home? I don't, I don't even use a lip brush at home. Will not be purchasing these, even though I have loved some of their lipsticks and crayons for years.
    I have a feeling Axiology are taking the wrong turn with this reformulation of everything just as Vapour Beauty did - Vapour is closing at the end of December for good. I hated their rebranding and reformulation of all products, they have ruined everything (their Siren lipsticks were my favourite lipsticks ever) and obviously most of their original customers felt the same.

    The lipsticks that I've bought in the past, that contain castor oil, stink so much after being exposed to air. I've had several tubes that I absolutely loved the colors of, were ruined because I couldn't get past that smell. After a day, the castor smell was so heavy. After two days I had to throw it away. I heard it on a Reply All, or This AMERICAN life Podscast and was weary, so I researched it from my universities databases available to me (ebsco, jstor). It's true and really sad. So even if you, at home recycle every product completely correctly (that's the problem is most people don't) they still mix with a garbage truck of people whom don't and thus they just go to land fills. Even the most tree hugging earth aware groups still agree we aren't going to be running out of landfill space anytime soon, at all. But still... Sad.
