I am trying to change the color of an object on jpegs. The first jpeg has black images, and I can't get the color to change from black. The other jpeg is a copper lug used in automotive repair. The lug has a hole drilled in one end and the color in the hole is white (same as background). The hole changes color when I colorize the lug. I need the hole in the lug to remain white ;iust ke the background. I an using the following info listed below.

1. open image
2. choose fuzzy select tool (stick with star on top
3. click on white background in image
4. choose select > invert
5. choose edit > copy
6. choose layer > new layer (transparency)
7. choose edit > paste into selection
8. click anywhere to create distinct layer
9. choose colors > colorize
