My 90s house is full of oak. And my kitchen tile floor has a strong taupe vibe making picking a wall color extra challenging. It was impossible to find any beige or off white. So we refaced our oak cabinets with creamy white and painted the walls deep charcoal SW Peppercorn which is a neutral that can flash a bit blue in afternoon light . We kept the oak trim. The contrast is beautiful. And the deep charcoal and cream cabinetry makes the oak look beautiful. I guess it’s the balance that tones down the strong orange in the oak. Jane you are so right.
Thank you so much, this truly helped me because I wanted to rip my floors out of our new home or refinish them, but now I feel better about keeping them for the next few years!

I followed you before this series, which helped me prepare for the right paint color for the whole upper level of our new home because it was an awful grey blue throughout with honey oak floors. We painted ceilings, walls BM Cloud White and we will paint trim and doors the same color in semi-gloss. We have lights, accents and hardware with matte black. Best decision ever.

In one of your previous posts, you noted Benjamin Moore alabaster is one of the options for this flooring. How does that compare to a simply white, and is there a scenario where one would work better than the other? Also, if I go with one of those wall colors with my honey oak floors, what do I do for curtains? Can I stay in the whish family?
I am so grateful to have found this video. I have an open floor plan with a deep honey oak wood floor through dining room and living room. AND the living room ceiling is honey oak colored knotty pine. Trying to find a color to repaint the all the walls. Everything I've looked at leans green undertones, and it just didn't sit well with me, and now watching your video, it makes sense why. I like the Plymouth Rock, but LRV is just a little tow low for me. Room is southern exposure, and I'm afraid this will wash out as in the winter we don't get enough light. What is the ligher taupe in the video at 6:30, or can you recommened a similar to Plymouth Rock with a higher LRV? Thank you so much

These videos and knowledge you share are why I've been a huge fan since Colour Confidential! Great video! I took notes and will have to find the Sherwin-Williams equivalent equivalent to the Benjamin Moore colours. I often pair honey oak with muted, warm greens greys. I had a co-worker who told me the worst colour with honey oak is a true grey. Her exact words was that honey oak looks like camp fire wood and then the walls got covered in grey soot 😅 Looking forward to the next video. I especially can't wait for the video on red flooring. Is there a way to incorporate earthy colours with honey oak? I love greens, rusts, darker browns, etc., but am struggling with incorporating them in a way that works. I've had a black, white, and honey oak palette for years and would like some colour without changing the floors.
What do you think of Sherwin Williams Grecian Ivory with aged Honey Oak? I have almond/tan windows AND honey oak floors…kind of like the Grecian Ivory to blend the two…
