    this strat with the volume on 5 and 7 was one of the best tone i've ever heard, wonderful playing on this rnb stuff

    I like normal setting on about 8 with strat. Powerful tone, but you can balance out the clean with guitar volume when needed. This amp sounds great. I really need to pick one of these up. Thanks for sharing the tones.

    My 67 Bassman is my favourite amp. It's not collectors grade so got my tech to mod it from an AB165 circuit to the rare pre CBS black panel AA864 on the normal channel and tweed 5F6-A circuit on the bass channel. So it is best of both worlds.
    Coincidentally Jim Marshall cloned that tweed circuit to make his JTM45, so with an AB-> Y pedal I can skip from Fender cleans to Marshall dirt or jump the two of them together. And I only have to carry one amp!

    • @MartinFrydas
      @MartinFrydas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s great! I’m still not in the mood to mod mine 🙈 but it sounds interesting 😎

      How hard is it to mod the normal channel to the aa864 circuit I am purchasing a 66 bassman soon and want to do this mod

    • @kosmicwizard
      @kosmicwizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hillelfan02 easy for a tech, it is values of resistors and flipping the phase before the phase inverter for less gain

  • @leighiansonmusic9688

    Great video. Your amp has to be the earlier AA864 model as allowed to the later AB165. I have an AB165 from 1966 and it has considerably more gain than yours.

    • @kevinmurtagh4996
      @kevinmurtagh4996 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine too. I’ve had three AB165 Bassmans at various times, and all of them were in solid crunch at 4 on the volume. But given that all those vintage Fenders were hand wired, with differing caps, none of them were exactly the same. There are just some that break up earlier than others.

    I ran a patch cable to both channels of my 1972 Bassman (with the master volume) and run a couple of soft-clipping overdrives in front of it and I'm afraid I'll never be able to go back to one channel

  • @TheDogPa
    @TheDogPa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You should try a real tweed bassman into a 412...then you'll know. Put a high gain box in front of it. Nothing gets close...and I do pretty much have one of EVERYTHING, or at least played it. I do sort of dig my Effectrode Blackbird take on the Blackface preamp though :O)

    I get a bassman 65 with originals cab and i can say that your demonstration is good for see the mutli-sounds that this amp can deliver but for tell you the truth, the powerbraker change the sound in my opinion especialy on overdrive. If you really want to hear a bassman you need to push it on his high volume and play with your volume knob of your guitare and the dream begin. Bassman 65 with Les paul is my way of treating this amp ;)

  • @willdenham
    @willdenham ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm going to be converting my 65' bandmaster to either this circuit or the blonde bassman. The bandmaster gets a lot of similar tone but is not as fat as the bass channel on this amp.

    I used to have one of these years ago - it was a '67 with the tall 2x12 that my Dad bought for my from our neighbor. My Dad bought it for me so I could used the cabinet with a small combo amp I had. He didn't know anything about amps and kept warning me not to use the head as he said it would catch fire and burn the house down. A few years later I stupidly traded it for something else. To this day, I wish I had that amp back. Guess I can always look for another one.

      to be honest I understand his feelings im always paranoid about my tube amps
      about a month ago my amp which is a bassman clone from nineteensixtyfour started smoking and flaming and its like is this really worth it what would happen if I wasmt home
      may not hAVE caught fire but they certainly make me paranoid and wary of using them

      My first "real" amp was an early 6v6-powered ampeg reverberocket I foolishly traded away because the control panel would get quite hot, but it was easily one of the best sounding amps I've ever played through, hands-down best reverb in a combo amp and it's not even close

    This sounds great my only question is why is the bass so low all the time I get when you dime a fender you don’t want the bass at all but at like three when the amp is dead clean it sounds thin and hollow only when it on 7 it sounds good. With my bassman if I want an average clean tone I have my bass a 12 I clock and the further up my volume goes the lower the bass knob goes hopes this helps and great amp my guy
